To see and hear a version of this sequence with these boards, sound effects, and dialogue, watch a segment from Rick Carter's Jurassic Park: An Illustrated Audio Drama: ua-cam.com/video/TIVpYoPctnU/v-deo.html
Even tho the Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite movies since I first saw it in -94 or -95 on VHS, I still wish it would have been made to follow the book more closely.
DiamondDead it'd would've been about like the mechanical shark used in Jaws. But I feel that since Spielberg had experience and with the advancement of technology and mechanics that he could of pulled it off
Sure. You are right. I bet eventually Spielberg and Stan Winston would've been able to pull it off. But it's also a matter of budget. And since Jurassic Park as we know it was already quite expensive to make, additional millions of dollars only for this fairly small scene alone would've probably just been unnecessary expenses for the studio.
Really well done. Great music, too. Three reasons I think this was scrapped: 1.) Lex’s characterization is a bit much. Kids that age aren’t THAT dumb. In the novel, it was an unexpected cough, not anything intentional. 2.) Taking out the juvenile T-Rex erased a big part of why this scene was less contrived in how they escaped. 3.) The SFX requirements for the time would’ve been pretty overwhelming.
Thank you for the compliments! The music was created by me recording myself humming it out how I think it would sound while watching it, then I gave it to a composer/orchestrator to play it by ear and make it real lol. But yeah, I agree with your reasons for why it was scrapped, and the biggest reason it was definitely had the budget factored in for the SFX. That and once Koepp took screenwriting duties, he had felt the scene was pointless! I personally love all the other stuff that happens on the river after this in the novel (which was only partially considered at one point, and sans the aviary), but hey--- it makes reading the novel that much more fun to have these additional sequences!
Even though the film itself is perfect just the way it is, it's interesting to see a deleted scene like this and wonder if the final film could have benefited from it.
velociraptor4you not a deleted scene. It’s legit a completely different story line. This is from the book which only has some parallels to the film but it is its own universe. Even the lost world book is vastly different from the film. If you haven’t, you should check out the audio books of both on UA-cam. They’re fantastic!
The only problems I have with this setup are Lex almost getting them killed, even by accident, and the small amount of time with Rexy in the river. Aside from that, it's beautifully intense and pretty well-paced.
In the book, the roles are switched. Lex is the younger sister to an older brother Tim. She’s also a tomboy and has a bit more of a snarky attitude. Also, this is the juvenile rex. The big female has more involvement towards the end of the river scene.
It was better in the novel, but this is a nice distillation of the sequence as written by Crichton. Although the later scene at the waterfall is missing. Eventually, Grant and the kids pass through waters that turn to rapids very quickly, and Grant slams the paddle between some rocks JUST as the boat almost goes over a waterfall. When he and the kids look down, the Tyrannosaur is eagerly awaiting them at the bottom. lol
Also in the book, Grant and the kids can hear the whistling and hooting of the dilophosauruses on the banks in forest, yet have no idea where it’s coming from exactly.
One question pops to mind: why the Hell would he even open up the raft NEAR the Rex? Just take a raft, head down stream far enough so the Rex won't hear it open up, open the raft, and you're on your merry way.
you try and push through thick jungle and try to find a place shallow enough to inflate it and get everyone in it all the while (in this version of the story) your in a race against the clock to stop a cargo boat from accidentally letting loose raptors on the mainland
This would have been so cool in the movie! They should’ve kept this idea. It has that suspense in it where it’s like: will they make it? Is the t res going to wake up as they walk around it? This would’ve been so cool to see in the movie. But then again, the only land predator that swims in water is the spinosaurus. Maybe they could’ve had the T-res run along the bank and try to get them, since if a t rex tries to jump it could die cause they really arent made for jumping.
immediately when i finish this part, i think of how awesome would be this scene. they need a tv show with 18r. Dennis death and this part, pure masterpiece
What an interesting concept. Taking storyboards of a pivotal scene from the novel which, due to time & pacing constraints, was omitted from the screenplay of the actual film!!! Bravo, imho, you did justice to this sequence!! One of my favourite parts of the book; ironically, I'd only JUST listened to this exact sequence a few days ago, an audio book recital from a UA-cam video...... See Dana Authement, Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park, Parts 1 & 2......
Thank you so much! I am glad you liked this video! I was happy to finally present a version of the full storyboards of this sequence for the first time! You may be curious to see how we also brought it to life in Rick Carter's script in the illustrated audio drama! ua-cam.com/video/TIVpYoPctnU/v-deo.html
This could have been done in 1993, only, they would have had to build a new rex head puppet designed like the Jaws puppet as opposed to putting the whole animatronic rex in water. Still, given the issues with the Jaws puppet, this would have been hell, so I get why they didn't go through with it.
They had a similar intense scene later in the kitchen. It's absolute logical that they dropped this idea. (Plus everyone would hate Lex for being clumsy, annoying and stupid.)
I'm so glad they cut this from the film, Tyrannosaurus Rex defiantly could not swim. Its body was build to run and ultimately be a land predator. Its tail was incapable of crocodile like movements since it was mainly used for balance and those tiny arms certainly wouldn't help much either.
Air sacs to float, muscly legs... It most likely could. Wouldn't certainly be a Spino-level swimmer, but could most likely manage to swim its way across a river to catch some tasty prey or escape from another Rex...

my god! even though it's just a storyboard it still gave me chills
in the noval this part whas giving me the chills aswell but the music added here makes it even more so
Even tho the Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite movies since I first saw it in -94 or -95 on VHS, I still wish it would have been made to follow the book more closely.
Nice to see. Would've been a technical nightmare to pull off with a mechanical T-Rex underwater and all.
DiamondDead it'd would've been about like the mechanical shark used in Jaws. But I feel that since Spielberg had experience and with the advancement of technology and mechanics that he could of pulled it off

I literally imagining the actual scene! It would be super intense if this was kept in the final film!
id love a similar idea for JW2
this was intense with the music and storyboards alone, i really wish we got a scene like this!!!
Just read this part in the novel. Pure terror!
I remember reading this part as a kid after watching the movie. I was so upset that they left it out.
this is more intense when you read the part of broken relationship of Tim and Lex parents, feel sad for that kids
Something’s telling me that this river raft scene is more than a legend now….
Really well done. Great music, too.

@@JurassicTime oh, that makes it more impressive that you did the music! I really enjoyed this, thanks.
Could explain second reason to me ? Was quite a time since I read the book heh.
I wish there was some old guy reading this scene from the novel along this story board with such gusto and enthusiasm.
That made hate Lex so much I wanted her to get eaten what the hell. I'm glad Lex is the way she is in the film.
even in storyboard, this gives you the chills. Although I can understand why they didn't keep this in the film.

This part is in Jurassic Park 3 in a way.
@@Bonesphthe only similarities this park in the book shares with JP3 are: people on a river attacked by a carnivore. That’s it.

awesome....................do that kind of stuff for other artwork sequences
1:20 T-rex on that good shit
This would have totally been intense if it were left in. Its sad that we didn't get this scene. Maybe a fan can make it some day.
Rexy: wtf u call me! 4:18

Anything with water is already scary. Adding a dinosaur is much more spookier.
that tension when walking past the sleeping t rex
This is amazing dude!

Prowlxleaf they aren't made either, you mean, they are born
Gore Magala yes sorry😅
Prowlxleaf its fine 😁
Gore Magala oh ok😂😅

amazing!!
That art n drawing was superb..!!
I was literally cursing that stupid Lex..
Then the boat escape became the ride at universal studios Hollywood and Orlando.
Me encanta !

What? Lex's face?
lul
bawsah koopa no, lex said he, its a she
No man, i meant lex face lol
But you are right
OH MY GOD WHY WAS THIS CUT FROM MOVIE
Special effects not up to scratch and Spielberg hated doing water creature effects after Jaws
Where did you find these Storyboards they weren't on the DVD.
It’s a good video but would be great if it had the narration read through at the same time
What is that music you used in the background?
You can download it here!: jurassictime.wixsite.com/memoirs/storyboard-videos

How deep is this river supposed to be anyway?? As big as T-Rexy is, he could’ve just walked in the river bed after them!
Never insult a T-rex Lex
I want to make this in lego stop motion but it feel then that i steel your idea.
Go ahead! Who wouldn't want to see that?! :D
@@JurassicTime thank you!

Wait since when did Rex have air sacs? That is only capable through flying birds not dinosaurs. Unless you can prove it with a study or documentation.
@@mr.spinosaurus6317 Every dinosaur had air sacs. It's one of the reasons why they were able to get so big in the first place.
Lex, you fucked up.
Nah wouldn't of worked
T Rex can never swim, they have tiny arms. This video was all bulshit. So glad they didn't put that in the film.
Don´t think it really swimed more then just walking and pulled down the body. Ofcourse still something a T-rex whould never do.
