Ran into this post on my feed. Great detective work. Yep. It was a test for the oversees studios. We test the studios we want to use by having them animate a few scenes from the storyboards. Character interactions for acting and of course a transformation scene. I love that you also had pages from the zine we put together for ComicCon.

As a character designer myself, I would pay RIDICULOUS amounts of money for an official Ben 10 art book featuring concept art, design process, scrapped ideas, etc.
I might be wrong here - but that MIGHT just be a vendor test. I personally don't think its a full pilot. Usually with tv animated series, the studio sends out a reel/animatic from a sequence to a variety of vendor studios to see which one they'd decide to stick with long term.
Even if it is just a vendor test rather than footage of an unaired pilot, I have to admit, I was excited to see it move in this video… even if the footage was heavily pixelated… it is interesting to note that the look of Ben 10, from the characters to even the logo could have been vastly different. As someone who was 10 when the original Ben 10 first aired, this felt like my a hidden chapter of my childhood I never knew I needed to see. 😁😁
I could have SWORN i had read somewhere that Ben 10 was originally supposed to be a dial H adaptation... this is not true... I have no idea where 12 year old me thought that
One thing I like about Ben 10 is that "Turning into superheroes" is kinda still what the situation is. I mean, think of how many comic book superheroes there are whose powers are purely because they're an alien. I'd be stoked to see some Necrofriggian flying around and fighting crime.
Lost media is like finding acident treasure in a way. It's always a relief when something cool like this is finally found and real as well. Case in point I love this series and fandom everytime something cool or exciting happens in it, it makes me proud to be part of something big and even times eventful too.
My personal theory is that Washington B.C was originally supposed to be the Pilot episode. The grocery store footage used in this missing pilot and the fact that the Pop-Up Trivia says Animo was inspired by the events of “And there was 10” to continue his experiments makes me think the Missing pilot was basically the episode Washington B.C. with some obvious changes in the plot. The problems with my theory would be how would you combine Ben finding the omnitrix with a Dr. Animo plot, I feel it would take to much time. Unless the show starts with Ben already having the watch (like in the reboot). It could be implied Ben already found the watch, and the missing pilot could somewhat play like the one we know. Since in the episode(Washington B.C) Ben has to learn what being a hero truly is, and the episode also features Heatblast and Fourarms, 2 of the most promoted aliens.
"And then there were 10" Could have been a flashback episode. That or it was always intended to be the pilot but "Washington B.C." was the episode used for test footage due to it having less exposition and feeling more like a standard episode of the show.
It may be something similar to the unaired pilot episode for Avatar the Last Airbender, where parts of the pilot were reworked into later "proper" episodes.
I'd say that the washington episode was probably the first one, with the series building up the "And there was Ten" episode as a flashback for Vilgax's arrival sort of like the exposition dump he pulls later in the series proper
@@professorescanor7310 That would make sense, a lot of superhero shows start out with the hero already active, not necessarily experts, but at least having a few weeks under their belt, for example Danny Phantom started a month after the accident, briefly flashing back to it in a later episode, that then basically repeated history due to a wish (long story, watch the show), Spectacular Spider Man also started with Peter already Spidey, going back to the origins during the symbiote arc, Generator Rex made Rex's past a mystery that was a driving part of his arc, Miraculous Ladybug made the heroes origin the S1 finale and so on, in hindsight OG Ben 10 starting with his origin is almost an anomaly.

My bet for Multiversus is that They'd put one Ben as the character, and add the rest of the series counterparts as skins. I hope its they add the OV one with Hoodie. For character animation, i think they might go with Ben in human form normally, but when performing attacks or special moves, he changes aliens. Could be cool
I was actually thinking to go the Pokemon trainer route... since Ben doesn't usually do rapid transformations, and tends to stick to just a couple for any 1 fight. I thought the best way to do that is by having each alien be their own "character" and you switch between them using taunts. It would certainly take up a lot more time and resources, especially if you wanted to give ben a lot of his aliens, but I think it would be a better way to represent Ben in a fighting game.
considering the justified Shaggy's moves in the bio, maybe the omnitrix could have a buff when coming from ben's universe to the one in the game. Least that way its just rapid tranformations COULD work if they wanted to.
If the concept art is true, then I can see why they changed it. Ben's bowl cut simply doesn't suit him and Gwen having a long ponytail would be harder to animate. I'm glad they changed it because the hairstyles we got for Ben and Gwen in the final product are far superior.
@@trontravolta379 yea but dude, the original series probably just lacked the time, skills, or tech for animation back then for a series. The Alien Force was probably made at the time where animating ponytails for a series was easier for them.
@@levi0394 According to Derrick Wyatt, each series had a lower budget than the last up through Omniverse. And unless they were using CGI ponytails, hand drawn Animation hasn't really changed how they draw hair Who knew why they changed it
The Ripjaws with 2 tails was actually an action figure, as well as Stinkfly with the red eyes. In the intro, we see a green Ripjaws design at the numbers part. Could that have been an earlier design?
Honestly, I like the look of Ponytail Gwen even more. It may not be quite as unique of a hairstyle, but I really like the design. Would've been a extra pain to animate, though.
At least Gwen got to wear red and has a ponytail in UAF, though the cat shirt is also iconic and symbolizes her ferocity and could very well reference her magical heritage.
Hard to believe that this pilot is slowly but surely coming to fruition. It really makes you think how this iteration of Ben 10 could’ve been if Cartoon Network stuck with it. Great video by the way!
That's such a weird but interesting place for the footage to be. It looks like it'd be pretty hard to tell the footage was different when it's in the tiny box (which is probably the reason it's only been discovered recently), i wonder if there's any more footage out there that's just been overlooked, maybe in some other game or promotional thing?
Hey kuro! I would like to request if you can also have some time finding the original plots of season 3 of AF, since so far, the only information we know is that Kevin would be mutated again. I'm curious on to whats the other plans for the original season 3 especially of how they will handle Vilgax and other characters.
I've been slowly gathering info on that for years, but I've yet to make a video on it in case I find something really solid. So far it's just miscellaneous quotes and articles.
I did remember from an old video that vilgax wasn’t even meant to appear in season 3 (idk why but I do remember kuro reading that season 3 will have colorful or something amongst those lines, my memories rather fuzzy)
Yeah, it's kinda clear season 3 saw them trying to draw more from the classic series, such as bringing back old villains and making Ben a massive jerk, which is a shame because the character we got in the first two seasons was a lot more engaging.

Hey Kuro! Can it be possible to find a Danny Phantom original/unused opening colored and animated? I found some super short colored sequences from it with Danny's old shirt (green color instead of red) from old Nickelodeon commercials. So, they must have fully animated opening somewhere! I tried to contact Butch and Nicktoons, but they are ignoring me... I really want to see it, may be u can help? I can send every sequence I found.
Fun Fact: the pilot footage for Four Arms's transformation sequence was also used in the opening for Season 1/2, and the first half of Wildmutts' transformation sequence just so happens to depict Ben with the same short hair

In the season 1 Opening of Classic Ben 10, you can see a split second of the original transformation of 4 Arms. It looks VERY similar to one in the lost pilot
@Siboniso Buthelezi Diamondhead’s transformations are actually so weird. In the intro where it shows him spin is actually in the pilot episode, but the green light never appears until the very end, so as he spins there is no light until there’s a screen flash and he’s flexing. Then the light appears. But what’s weirder is that the pilot’s transformation sequence from episode 2 onwards is completely different from the first. So many details but I’m too lazy to write them all here so you can check for yourself. So Diamondhead spinning in green light is the pilot’s transformation sequence edited that’s never used again lol
@Siboniso Buthelezi The orange pulsing on Wildmutt’s transformation in the intro is actually used. You can’t notice it in normal time but if you slow down a video of Wildmutt’s transformation on UA-cam the orange pulsing does appear, it’s just the white flash appears and covers it up until after the orange pulse is gone. So the intro includes a Wildmutt transformation with no white flash, even though the pilot does. Also Wildmutt’s transformation gets sped up as the seasons progress but that’s the only detail they change in it.
I think it’s exactly that one. The background lighting looks identical. But something I noticed with this clip of Four Arms in the lost pilot is that in comparison to the transformation used in episodes is that they focus on his face for just a bit longer, making the transformation sequence longer. It seems as if in the opening that Four Arms’ face is looked at for some time before it switches to XLR8
On the subject of Ben 10 lost media, there was a 2006 US commercial series for new episodes of Season 2 that used the song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk. It was one of the first times I ever heard that song so it's always stuck with me. I've been searching for evidence of their existence over the past year and haven't had any luck yet. I've seen others reminisce about them in YT comment sections so I know they were not just a childhood fever dream. If anyone knows where I could try to find some old video files of them, I'll make sure to publish them somewhere so they don't stay as lost media.
I like this new video of urs, it was fun. It felt different than ur breakdowns and other videos that u do. I think even if the pilot ep exists does it make any difference, yeah i also want to know how the pre-production footage was like, the pilot which not got Aired but i think i like this way much more.

Fun fact: if you pay atention on wildmuth transformation, you can see that it has the pilot episode design, the shorter hair, light green eyes and a brighter skin, the scene overall has a more bright and lighter visuals and effects, which i think the series was suposed to have before the final product.
Maybe the mushroom was meant to represent or symbolize her magical/Anodite origins since mushrooms could also be associated with witchcraft. At least Gwen was able to wear red in Alien Force Season 3 and the entirety of Ultimate Alien, complete with a ponytail, likely as a reference to the pilot of the original series.
I saw the Dave Johnson Comment of Instagram way back then at July. He replied that "it's official and was a test Animation and he says that it's funny that people say it's fake" Also the Fourarms footage... It was used in the final shot of the Ben 10 Theme song

That Four Arms animation reminds me of a deleted scene from The Big Tick, where his transformation sequence had a completely different background for some reason.
@TheGlassesPro I only know about it because it's on the OG series season 2 DVD, which I still own. I don't know if it's anywhere on the internet though.
I remember watching this scene back around 2006. I think it was on the website because I remember downloading an .flv file of it to save it (haven't found it since sadly) but I also have a faint memory of watching it on UA-cam. No matter I did see full animation from this scene and it sucks I can't find the file I saved. I also faintly recall Gwen having another voice. Why IDK.
I wouldn't be surprised if CN still has the pilot. Nick still had their original Avatar pilot and aired it on UA-cam like a year ago. I know they're different companies but there's a good possibility CN has the original Ben 10 pilot somewhere out there.
I've notice something about the Four Arms cilp. It's actually the low resolution version of one of the cilps used at the end of the season 1-2 intro only to expect that the low resolution one is a lot brighter than the high resolution/ Intro one.
It's nice to know theres something interesting on the old Ben 10 website my country (the UK). Back in the day I was always sad because the US site had so much more content and many of the links to Ben 10 episodes were region locked. I remember being so disappointed as a kid that I wasn't able to watch full episodes online.

I swear I remember seeing ben with shorter hair once when I was a kid, in a special ben 10 event on cartoon network, must've been around 2007 - 2008 when that happened, its very fuzzy on my mind but I do remember seeing it, I even made drawings of ben with the shorter hair but they're long gone.

The original premise of Ben 10 was very similar to the DC comic "Dial H for Hero" which might have contributed to the change to aliens.

Hey Kuro! Can it be possible to find a Danny Phantom original/unused opening colored and animated? I found some super short colored sequences from it with Danny's old shirt (green color instead of red) from old Nickelodeon commercials. So, they must have fully animated opening somewhere! I tried to contact Butch and Nicktoons, but they are ignoring me... I really want to see it, may be u can help? I can send every sequence I found.

In the season 1 Opening of Classic Ben 10, you can see a split second of the original transformation of 4 Arms. It looks VERY similar to one in the lost pilot
@Siboniso Buthelezi Diamondhead’s transformations are actually so weird. In the intro where it shows him spin is actually in the pilot episode, but the green light never appears until the very end, so as he spins there is no light until there’s a screen flash and he’s flexing. Then the light appears.
But what’s weirder is that the pilot’s transformation sequence from episode 2 onwards is completely different from the first. So many details but I’m too lazy to write them all here so you can check for yourself.
So Diamondhead spinning in green light is the pilot’s transformation sequence edited that’s never used again lol
@Siboniso Buthelezi The orange pulsing on Wildmutt’s transformation in the intro is actually used.
You can’t notice it in normal time but if you slow down a video of Wildmutt’s transformation on UA-cam the orange pulsing does appear, it’s just the white flash appears and covers it up until after the orange pulse is gone.
So the intro includes a Wildmutt transformation with no white flash, even though the pilot does.
Also Wildmutt’s transformation gets sped up as the seasons progress but that’s the only detail they change in it.
I think it’s exactly that one. The background lighting looks identical.
But something I noticed with this clip of Four Arms in the lost pilot is that in comparison to the transformation used in episodes is that they focus on his face for just a bit longer, making the transformation sequence longer. It seems as if in the opening that Four Arms’ face is looked at for some time before it switches to XLR8
On the subject of Ben 10 lost media, there was a 2006 US commercial series for new episodes of Season 2 that used the song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk.
It was one of the first times I ever heard that song so it's always stuck with me. I've been searching for evidence of their existence over the past year and haven't had any luck yet.
I've seen others reminisce about them in YT comment sections so I know they were not just a childhood fever dream. If anyone knows where I could try to find some old video files of them, I'll make sure to publish them somewhere so they don't stay as lost media.
I'd like to think Ben 23's Gwen looks more like the design she had in the pilot since Ben's pilot design does depict him with similar hair to 23's

Fun fact: if you pay atention on wildmuth transformation, you can see that it has the pilot episode design, the shorter hair, light green eyes and a brighter skin, the scene overall has a more bright and lighter visuals and effects, which i think the series was suposed to have before the final product.

Gwen's old design is very interesting
Maybe the mushroom was meant to represent or symbolize her magical/Anodite origins since mushrooms could also be associated with witchcraft. At least Gwen was able to wear red in Alien Force Season 3 and the entirety of Ultimate Alien, complete with a ponytail, likely as a reference to the pilot of the original series.

That Four Arms animation reminds me of a deleted scene from The Big Tick, where his transformation sequence had a completely different background for some reason.

I remember watching this scene back around 2006. I think it was on the website because I remember downloading an .flv file of it to save it (haven't found it since sadly) but I also have a faint memory of watching it on UA-cam. No matter I did see full animation from this scene and it sucks I can't find the file I saved. I also faintly recall Gwen having another voice. Why IDK.

I wouldn't be surprised if CN still has the pilot. Nick still had their original Avatar pilot and aired it on UA-cam like a year ago. I know they're different companies but there's a good possibility CN has the original Ben 10 pilot somewhere out there.
I've notice something about the Four Arms cilp. It's actually the low resolution version of one of the cilps used at the end of the season 1-2 intro only to expect that the low resolution one is a lot brighter than the high resolution/ Intro one.
It's nice to know theres something interesting on the old Ben 10 website my country (the UK). Back in the day I was always sad because the US site had so much more content and many of the links to Ben 10 episodes were region locked. I remember being so disappointed as a kid that I wasn't able to watch full episodes online.

I swear I remember seeing ben with shorter hair once when I was a kid, in a special ben 10 event on cartoon network, must've been around 2007 - 2008 when that happened, its very fuzzy on my mind but I do remember seeing it, I even made drawings of ben with the shorter hair but they're long gone.

So technically Gwen could've have pony tail and red shirt before Ultimate Alien. Neat. Maybe somewhere in alternate timeline, Gwen kept Pony tail and red shirt as a kid and then cut her hair short like the short haired future Gwen and wear blue shirt.
Little ben stopped making when he was 11 so maybe when gwen was 13 - 15 her hair grow longer into that
