I found this piece so difficult to play on my double F/Bb horn, I just can't believe the accuracy of these Vienna players on their single F horns! They are fantastic.
@@pbj4toast It's fantastic, but you can put a Bb crook in a vienna horn, and there are high F vienna horns. Not entirely sure they used just F horns for this one.
Excellently done! The Ensemble has a fairly high average level than most other ensembles. It is astonishing when I heard a clear high E toward the end of the first movement.

I am not a fan of the sound of the Vienna Horns - they are not smooth, bright and full with no blare as a horn should properly be, but I love Shumann's Konzertstuck.
The Vienna Horn is the original F Horn sound that Bruckner, Mahler and Strauss had in mind. You're confusing overtones with "blare". It's what makes a Vienna Horn soar above an orchestra with ease and retain the horn characteristic (spectral dynamics) without sounding overly woofy or like a trombone when using the Bb side. @@brianalexandre1125 Dale Clevenger was in fact a big fan of the Vienna Horn sound and tradition. He even sat behind the great Roland Berger and the Vienna Phil Section back in the 70s while performing Salome (or Rosenkavalier) at the opera. According to several students, Dale said it was an unforgettable experience listening to the Vienna guys blow fearlessly into those straight F Horns (especially in thes Strauss operas that are notoriously high and exposed) and that it had a very positive influence on his concept of orchestral horn playing.
I do not want a sound, that is so polished, that is seems to be like sampled. I like this sound very much, . Especially the bit crispy sound of the Vienna Horn. And I admire the players who challenged to play it on those instruments.

The Vienna horn has a B flat crook which can be inserted for parts with lots of high notes .

Amazing rendition of "Konzertstuck". With some flourishes I don't remember hearing in any other renditions.
