Very few people can understand the frustration if doing quality work then it gets trashed and you have to do it again with the same high quality work. The only away to stay sane is telling yourself, it's a good return customer
Great to have you back and giving us some interesting content. I believe you are a "master" at line boring. I am 81 and worked around heavy equipment for over 60 years. I have observed line boring countless times, you are the best I have ever seen. Please keep providing all of us your great videos. Greetings from West Texas.
Was just thinking that! Sure there's a lot of guck to clean out and what not, but hands down this is definitely a over time overkill money maker job lol
I remember when I was younger then senior mechanics would make me always put the thumb attachment on a excavator that size... I asked why me, they said because you are 6 feet 8 inches tall that's why... Loved those old guys and learned a lot, very unfiltered guys something that I acquired... No BS
Hi i am Linebore Tech form South Africa .If you want the bush to stop moving to the in size of H-link. We normally leave a step at the back of the bore big enough so the bush stop against the shoulder and small enough to let the pin through .
This may sound a bit crazy, but I started wearing dishwashing gloves when working with super greasy stuff and gear oil. It looks silly as hell, but they are more tear resistant than thinner nitrile, it has actually saved us a bunch of money on gloves at the shop.
Wow ! It takes a lot of knowledge to do that kind of work and I think, I'm far from being an expert in that domain, you're doing a top quality work to achieve those repairs. Good videos. Bravo !!
What in the world..!? They need a blaster for what they're digging, or a new operator. Maybe both. That's an expensive stuff-up. They're keeping you in business tho so I guess that's one good thing about this whole affair!
I used to drive a Cat 374 in the English china clay works, very abrasive environment, she was a beast, and used to grease the bucket linkage every 2 hours of operation, if you didn't, it would sheer off the pin keeper bolts.
Brilliant video of an engineer and his lucky apprentice doing extremely difficult work, both in your workshop and out in the field, to an amazing standard. You are an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to. Thank you for sharing
30:55 was going to ask about shielding gas being blown away but you answered my question. I like the option to weld the oval part . Maybe an automatic greasing system should be fitted to this machine. Thank you for the knowledge you share with us 👏👍🙏
Really enjoy your videos. It’s definitely inspiring for me to learn as much as I can and have different skill sets. I’m currently a heavy equipment mechanic, but will be taking some welding classes at a local college to get my basic skills down first.
Great job guys. Definitely a good money maker project for sure. I liked your idea of using the old pin as a battering ram to get the new one in lol. Good thinkin! Thank you for sharing this, been waiting awhile for your vids to drop, but life gets busy which is understandable. 😁👍
you guys are awesome. great helper to be willing to put that much effort in. guess weight must be the limiting factor in how heavy they make the machine. figure someone would be willing to buy a more heavily built machine that needs little maintenance with cost being secondary to reliability. i'd like to see the bill for all that effort, time and expense.
I watch you work on these things, having been a manager with industrial equipment. If our guys had destroyed equipment like that, they would have been fired. The irony is that oils like canola and vegetable oils were originally made to replace fossil oils because of a shortage years ago. But somehow these things were considered safe to eat?
machinist tip, heat the end of that stick up with a torch, it makes those fits drop in like butter even without cooling the bushing Nice fix! i bet that sand makes a real abrasive paste when it gets in there
Amazing how these cat skinners can clap out their equipment so fast. They never have enough time to grease their equipment but plenty of time and money to have a us fix it. LOL! thanks for sharing as usual.
Adjust your step size and speed, lack of fusion with a climax bore welder is because of those 2 issues. I run one daily. Pro tip...choke your wire speed down from 3.5 to 2.0 on the uphill side of your last wrap. It wont grape on you and youre golden
Those guys are definitely keeping you busy by not using grease. For some reason they think that after the damage is done grease will help....I suppose it will but the time is BEFORE the damage is done....
Greg, just wanted to take a minute and say thank you for the time and effort you put into creating these videos. I live in Central Texas and would like to get into this industry. I plan on enrolling in my local welding program, but was wondering if there was anything else you would recommend to learn about the line boring and heavy equipment repair? Thanks again for the great content.
I like how their mechanic just throws the hydraulic hoses in the bucket, on top of all the dirt, no ends plugged or taped. That explains why your bushings lasted 10 months…
A lot of people don't realize the importance of not just grease but good moly grease for bushings on a machine. Years ago I had a mini excavator with no quick attach, pulled the pins to change buckets. Would change bucket and grease pins, an hour or two later swap again and be surprised there were dry spots on the pins. This was with regular red grease like Lucas tacky stuff. Switched to 3 percent moly and never a problem, you literally can't wipe it off the pins with a rag. 5 percent is even better than that
I would think this job would try nearly anyone's patience and determination. That didn't look to be easy or simple at all. Not cheap either with all the tools needed in addition to materials/supplies. Plus your travel expenses, labor, and meals plus a place to stay and sleep/shower.
Good to see ya back dude. ✊🏻 I just cannot get past the amount of money spent on such machines only to gaff off proper maintenance. Of course, time is money, but i imagine the contractors take a bath when they sit broken. 🤷🏻
Grease, I love it. Except for the way it feels and cleaning it off metal or my skin. A cat 374 is much larger than I can see being useful in LA. Can you share the application?
On the one hand... not taking care of your machines is foolish... on the other.... they pay you to fix their foolishness... I guess if they like paying for your hours, who are we to stop them? Make that money!
Also glad you are back! Seems like 4-5 days on this job and MANY hours. I'm curious as to how you bill for something like this ? straight hourly, after hours charges? I mean seemsa like for this job, you have no personal time to do anything, not even sleep! Hello from Alberta Canada.
I think the person who drives this machine also hates grease. Good to have you back, we missed you. Cheers from London UK
Nice greetings to London.. !! I love England / Great Britain ❤❤Vivian Hyde 😊
Lol, multiple parties in the making of this story all hate grease.
Drives the guts out of it a operator would grease his machine/tool

52 hours and remote work, nice check coming from this job! Those kinds of operators are the ones that really make you money =)
Was just thinking that! Sure there's a lot of guck to clean out and what not, but hands down this is definitely a over time overkill money maker job lol
I've seen lots of line boring but never seen the welding process. I didn't even know that the process even existed! Nice repair!
Hi Greg,
Always a nice day when there's a video from you, Isaac, or Kurtis.
Or all 3!😅👍🏻👌🏻
✊🏻🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲✊🏻
and NBSwelding too
And Oliver Snowball @snowballengineering
I'm familiar with Curtis from Cutting Edge Engineering, but who is Issac? I watch these videos faster than they make them LOL.
@@danielstellmon5330 Isaac's channel is
I C Weld and it's Kurtis at CEE. I usually catch them as they are uploaded if I'm still awake. 🙂
Gotta love the operator of that piece of equipment as he gives you plenty of repeat business. Great Job !!!!
Everyone wants big boy money until it comes time to do big boy work!
You are the big boy!!
That boring equipment is so damn cool. What you can do with it is amazing 👏

We're glad your back. Good job again, I'm happy to see your helper hanging in there. 👍
I find it amazing how it goes round & round and welds 😅
Grease allergies have made me a lot of money over the years. Looks like you guys get them too. I hear its worse than ragweed 😂
Hi i am Linebore Tech form South Africa .If you want the bush to stop moving to the in size of H-link. We normally leave a step at the back of the bore big enough so the bush stop against the shoulder and small enough to let the pin through .
I almost did that but they want it to factory specs
AMAZING what one welder can do with the proper tools. great work.
This may sound a bit crazy, but I started wearing dishwashing gloves when working with super greasy stuff and gear oil. It looks silly as hell, but they are more tear resistant than thinner nitrile, it has actually saved us a bunch of money on gloves at the shop.
So do you like wash them afterwards or how do you re-use them?
@@UhOhUmm Yeah, keep them on your hands, wipe them off really well with a towel, then do some washing hands action in the parts washer.
Smart man. That stuff permeates the skin and causes long term neurological and cancer issues.
Wow ! It takes a lot of knowledge to do that kind of work and I think, I'm far from being an expert in that domain, you're doing a top quality work to achieve those repairs. Good videos. Bravo !!
Heard of this process , but never watched it done , thank-you , very fascinating technology. cheers
This was a really good video. Nice job. Good hard woking men. Customer oriented.
Great project! You get into some abused and neglected large equipment repair. Thanks for sharing.
You guys are hard core, keep Rockin Greg

The patience of Saint Francis.
I need you to weld a big sign that says *_"PLEASE GREASE ME!!"_* into the operator's line of sight on this excavator.
Looks like that excavator could use a Lubecore auto-greasing system!
Edit: Just got to the end now - a job very well done! Excellent work.
Pretty amazing how you set up the machine to do partial passes to fill in the bottom of the hole, Amazing stuff you do !
What in the world..!? They need a blaster for what they're digging, or a new operator. Maybe both. That's an expensive stuff-up. They're keeping you in business tho so I guess that's one good thing about this whole affair!
What a job. You must have been knackered at the completion.
Damn that was a tight one! Good job! That’s what he said!
Oh she's tight! LOL Well done, thanks for any upload you may do. Stay safe.

Glad to see you back. Awesome work. Great video
That was a good OFW video, more than usual, worth the watch!
That is amazing. Some people could break a anvil half in two. Good thing they have your talent.
Burning the block of incense under the end of the stick to ward off evil spirits was a nice touch.👍

Grease has gotten too expensive!
Whoever was running that machine needs to be sacked, that's pure abuse to destroy it to that level in 10 months

374 stick end bushings is about .015 on those bushings if your cutting to print. An insane amount with no nitrogen

You should try to put those bushing in dry ice or liquid nitrogen. Thanks, great video.
Grease, I love it. Except for the way it feels and cleaning it off metal or my skin.

I recon you need to get a few "Operator My Ass" stickers from Clint at C&C Equipment.
That bushing won't fall out💪😬
Got to love On Fire Welding…Paulie in Orlando
What is the interferance fit between the stick and the bushings? Thank you for sharing the knowledge with us.

@@OFW thank you!
I have worked on Heavy Equipment that have automatic oilers (greasers) installed. Maybe that's what's needed here?
What hydraulic unit did you use to press those bushings? And what size/grade rod did you end up using?
OTC foot pump and enerpac or cheap Chinese hollow cylinders on Amazon. Grade B7 all thread. 1” is my go to for 30 ton. 2” for 60 ton.
26:47 With a bit of warmup you could probably have gotten that bushing in from the three point line.
Amazing how much money and down-time one can save with a little daily effort and a few pumps from a grease gun.
That's a good customer.
