I have to say the DJI looked quite pleasant in the forest, looked much better than the GoPro 11.

If vlogging means walking and talking go for an action camera…dealing with movement is their superpower. BTW on most reviews I have seen I prefer the video on the 11, the 12 ,is just too dark. OA4 is fine. Panny looked good, but do you really want to carry all that gear if just walking around? How about CameraLab solution: an action camera and Sony Rx100v7? Great video; Fun as always!

You are bang on, so we choose both - Fuji (with a gimbal) and GoPro. Talking heads with the GoPro and cinema magic with the Fuji😀

Once I got the G9, I knew panny boy will always be in my heart. Rockin the S5 now because I got a killer deal! The action 4 looks pretty good though and the weight and size of the action IS pretty tempting.

Still waiting for a solid m43 range finder body with up-to-date specs. Pen-F II or GX9 II and I'll pre-order. I would absolutely love a weather sealed Pen F II with OM1's high-iso performance.
same...been shopping for weeks. I want to document travels outdoors on a bicycle in all kinds of weather (heat/humidity/water) and light, want good stills AND video, mic input for vlogging, action insect and bird shots, slow motion, time lapse or WHATEVER. I'm honestly just leaning toward a newer Sony phone and a Sony gx100vii. Lots of contenders but nothing is ...just right. Phone rig grips with electric shutter and zoom seem potentially useful. The most versatile mirrorless seem like Lumix s5iix and g9ii....but that also seems too bulky. Olympus should make a pro Tracker or TG line camera with nice controls.
A miniature G9II, the size of G100 but with phase detect and IBIS and no crops would be perfect for vlogging Leica 9 mm

Im guessing this question crosses the mind of many. Deciding to buy an ultra wide angle lens vs an action camera. My opinion is it’s close enough. I actually did a similar video recently. Thanks for doing videos like this. I appreciate that you are willing to compare two significantly different cameras for a similar use case. I feel like that’s how a lot people use cameras.

Sony FDR-X3000 is the answer to everything. The one and only. No screen, always in focus, best form factor to ever touch planet Earth. The cam + foam in mic + tripod = it's over.

St. Catharines, I think I was there one day in 1984. Visited the Niagara Falls with friends and took the way in the Winnipeg direction.
The wobbles are real on Panny, in the electronic mode the camera fights hard to control them but it is still fine.
Don't even think about trying GP-Log on the HERO12. It's extremely noisy in the shadows, making it essentially unusable.
ZV-E1 with the 16-35 f/4 is an amazing combo. It's bulky but very light for the quality you can get. Yeah it's a bit on the pricey side but a very good choice if you have the budget.

I have that combo and I use it for multiple case scenarios...I use it for paid professional work and I'm planning to use it for vlogging too, I just rig it up different for what I'm doing. When vlogging I use it with the creator remote tripod thingy, for event videography, I have it in a smallrig cage with a top handle.

The DJI looks great. You don't need the Glimmer Glass filter, it just makes the image look cheap. Post processing would look much better. The Panasonic G9ii looks amazing. That macro bee shot was your best ever and I have seen all your cameras. All of them
It looks cheap without the glimmer glass.
Honestly I would say the G9ii with some accessories, batteries, lenses is enough. As much as I like the Go Pro 11, you know it will pretty much always look good with the G9ii and it means you're getting more use out of the more expensive product.

Pretty sure this is the ice hill from a video quite a while ago. That was a good one. You know, every time you talk about the shortcomings of a camera it amazes me that the info isn't considered by those making the cameras. Especially, some of the bigger issues like stability. Seems like that is something they should be able to rectify. I can't believe you're the only one making the case for many of these improvement ideas. A camera like the X-S20 body has a nice size and could be just right for vlogging. Thanks for the fun, have a great day!
Laugh now…. OK, I bought my daughter a Kodak Pixpro WPZ2. It’s surprisingly amazing. 16mp, 1080 digital stabilization, waterproof, dust proof, and shock resistant. I’m truely impressed for$150
I'm thinking of taking Sony a7siii, sony 20mm f1.8 for vlogs, and sony 24-70gm 2.8 for everything else, and dji mini 4pro for following around other photographers just for laughs.
I'm tired of upgrading, I've been upgrading my cameras for the past 40 years, no exaggerating, so I've decided to use what I have and fix it in post if necessary. Olympus E-m1 mkIII w/12-100 IS Pro for travel and wildlife, Sony Action cam for helmet cam and underwater, Olympus Air A01 with Pansonic 12-32 w/OIS for when I need something small and light, but better than my smartphone. The phone is the One Plus 7t which I'll use if none of my other cameras are available. I'll admit, they all have their flaws, but the more I learn how to use them, the better photos and footage I capture.

I like the DJI action 4 quality in low light and the colours. Not really impressed with the GoPro. Having the 2 cameras set up is not bad, DJI vlogging and Panasonic for nature! Could you gimbal the pannyboi, with the DJI mounted on the panny shoe facing you?

Not a single vlogger I’ve seen the last 5 years or so is being held back by their camera video capture. The factor distinguishing best from worst is the audio. On a phone screen all the video looks the same to me. DJI Action 4 seems perfect to me. Just my AUD$0.13 because we are a banana republic.
Your old Sony action cam and Canon SX50 for the superzoom shots was all you ever needed. Is that the ultimate budget setup in 2023? All 1080p no supercomputer needed for editing.

Phone for vlogging seems terrible, unless you have a second one with you. Can't swap out batteries, and if you get a call or something you have to stop recording. So glad I got an Action 4 so I can stop using my phone for everything

The only setup I can think of that's light and capable is the OM System OM-5 + Leica 9mm: unlimited recording, no split files, auto iso in video, great stabilization.. it's too bad the video specs are non-existent for slowmo and who knows how the lens would behave, Panasonic just make a GX10 please!! G9 II too heavy..
I really like the look of the DJI Action 4, but the whole dongle issue is a deal-breaker. It is inexcusable that DJI refuses to bring out a simple dedicated Lav mike! OR, just make sure that the USB port works with USB mikes. I spent hours trying to communicate with DJI and dealing with 'sales assistants' (Probably non-English speakers) trying to explain that problem. I eventually managed to let them know I wouldn't be buying one until it was sorted.
The really annoying thing is they kept suggesting the dongle, or their ridiculously expensive (And fragile) wireless mike. They had suggestions for other compatible mikes - but not a single Lav mike. They also can't tell you if certain mikes will work, if you ask them specifically.
I tried searching on UA-cam for mike solutions and ended up watching hours of MotoVloggers failing to find a good solution after attempting multiple mikes - Or guys that had found really complicated solutions, using all kinds of connectors etc.
I have also heard that even if a mike works on one DJI Action 4, it doesn't mean the same set-up with work on your Action 4!!??? How is that possible?

Do you make videos? Do you do it regularly? If you don't you should shut up. Anything that increases workflow is a pain in the a$$. As it turns out DJI has finally sorted this issue out with a mike adapter that accepts a 3.5mm mike jack, so it isn't an issue anymore. @johnfoley4023
use one keep the other as a spare or alternative/unique? Or find that one perfect camera like I have.
My opinion, bring both to vlog. I leave a GoPro with a small mic in my pocket because it’s easy to pull out and it’s very stable with good audio. Of course the overall picture quality isn’t very good compared to my Sony fx30 and gimbal set up but that’s not always practical everywhere I go because of the size.
Have you tried the Insta360 One RS with the 1 inch mod? That could be a solution. If not, at least we all get a review out of it 😅

The G9ii with that Lens might give great shots, but its too expensive for most people.
I was looking at other vlogging cameras and Nikon z30 looks good.
Even Sony ZV1 or zve10.
The Canon G7xii has nice colours.

Sony RX100 series of pocket cams are pretty much all that but better in every way + its a 1-inch sensor AND they sell for like nothing on the used market.
Good AF, good long lens perfect for tourists. Only downside is, their lenses are pretty awful on the wide end for vlogging. Unless you get that ZV which you mentioned, I would avoid the Canon 1-inch cameras if I were you, they shoot good pictures, pretty junk in everything else, pretty mediocre AF performance. Not all their 1-inch models even let you shoot RAW either.

If you were in the EOS R system (R6 or R5), you just bring the tiny (160 grams) RF 16mm with you.
I wonder if the image on phones would look better on phones with an ND filter so the shutter speed wouldn't have to go up so high.
Make a cage outta hot glue, or reach out to someone with a 3D printer.. gotta be someone with your subscribe count willing to help... also, have to be completely honest Kasey, I love when you kick your feet in your full body vlogs. I highly recommend you revisit the 360 cam just do do this.. ideally on a giant map of the "flat earth" to create the illusion of walking on a spherical earth. I heard Nasa uses this same method to create all space walk footage.

Sometime ago I tested iPhone 13 vs Go3 and Insta One R and I'd say for vlogging while walking you do not need any dedicated camera if you got phone with decent camera already. Although for me the phone is a bit cumbersome compared to small action cam.

That’s a good lens. I have it. Just got the 4/3 Olympus 300mm f2.8 and it is almost literally too heavy to use handheld. I took 3 pictures and had to go take a nap. I also have the laowa 6mm zero d and the Voigtlander 10.5mm f.95 which I might like more than the Leica 9mm.

I just bought a GoPro Hero12 for my upcoming trip to Rome. I don't know if I'll have time to test it before my trip. I will shoot in LOG which should result in nice colors after grading. Can't wait! Of course, I'll have my R5 and R6 too. Because, photographer.

You mention you want a 100-400 f/4 Leica. What about the 150-400 f/4 Olympus? It's insanely expensive, but think of the bird action you could catch with it! I guess you're wanting to film birds. I'm not quite sure what you're after. Of course, the IS wouldn't sync with the Panasonic G9 ii. These companies really need to start cooperating more. There are only two M43 manufacturers. They might as well quit trying to undermine each other. Work together for the betterment of micro four thirds kind! Sure. I'm sure that's going to happen.

I have a Sony a6400 and Weebill S gimbal. But I'm thinking of getting GoPro12 for underwater shots. But since GoPro in-camera stabilization is so good... should I even pack my gimbal?
Maybe it's just me, but i prefer the action cam look for vlogging. I find the out-of-focus backgrounds in vlogs really annoying. I want to see the environment where you're vlogging. To that end, I think the Action 4 has the best vlogging look. And it looks way better than the Huawei. And let's face it, those really high fps slo-mos on the Huawei are completely unnecessary in normal filming situations.
Please pleas please use the DJI with D-Cinelike and grade in post. You can get *cinematic* footage.
Why does nobody ask for G9II specs in a G80 body? Everyone says GX9 body, that's too small for so many uses, G80/85 was perfect for everything. I'm not buying an m43 sensor in a full frame body, not for $2K, unless they want to prove it needed all that extra room for truly amazeballs specs. G9II does have cool specs and it's tempting but I refuse to believe it needs that thicc cage around its soul.
A larger body is mostly useful for heat dissipation and room for the IBIS mechanism to move around
Life hack for you: Just carry your action cam in a sock to protect the lens ;)

Still think the Action 4 looks incredible - especially compared to the horrifically crappy Action 3.
I found sticking an nd over my s21 lenses led to 38.3% less brain hemorrhging upon reviewing the footage, indicating a strong probability ( somewhere in the .8 strata) that the same would work for any action camera...not that I subscribe to that sort of film art, acts between consenting adults are their own business.
Just get an Android phone with good processing power, microSD slot and full access to the camera2 API.
Install MotionCam ($15usd) to shoot raw DNG video
Install McPro24fps ($15usd) to shoot already baked video
Add a microphone
And you are ready to vlog or film everything with great quality

Get an iPhone 14 or 15 Pro Max. They are not overly sharp and on the 15 you can shoot in pro res log.

One of each will do, so you're not carrying and using two mirrorless bodies to shoot with and record yourself with like a jackass (done it: "WTF am I doing this?"). Or just get a production assistant/partner to video you while shooting and talking.
