    He drive a very old car, doesn't have a lot of money for his own school, his classes are nearly free for khmer and pretty cheap for foreigners compare to what exist in Thailand (I don't even speak of Korea, China or Japan). He deffinitly not do that for money or career. But you"re right, he is self proclaimed Gold Kroma, but he never hidde the fact that he created the Kroma system to give his martial art the possibility to bring his martial art to international recognition like Aikido, Karate

    During his time in the USA, master San Kim Sean essentially concentred on cinema and shows (he was also a music player). He was not really involved in the US as a teacher, and didn't thought that the art of his uncle was something that will interressed americans, that's why he mainly focused on his carrier. When regime changed in Cambodia, he came back but never thought that his teaching will interressed people from other side of the seas, it become famous with the internet...

    According to Khmer dictionary by Somdach Chhoun Nart, page 1138, Bokator means "a kind of short sticks that we put along our forearms to protect from long or short sticks. It's the name of martial art technique that has Bokator as the defender.
    The meaning of Bokator is not like what Mr Sarn Kim Sean said. I suggest Mr Sarn Kim Sean to look up in the Khmer dictionary by Somdach Chhoun Nart again.

    after the tragedies of war and khmer rouge regime. khmer martial arts along with other arts was in critical condition. how can a grand master not realise this situation and preserve kun khmer by teaching it to the next generation. there are many kru in america who teaches kun khmer. but this grand master did'nt?? did he not care about preserving kun khmer while he was in america.

    Correction. He train Hapkido when he come to the USA, that's a fact (and so ...? Even the highest master in Japan have hight ranks in both traditional martial arts and largest federation like Aikido , Kobudo or something else ), but he mainly use this knowledge as an advisor for cinema and shows. Most of his career were made with this, and as a musician. He run a little classe of Hapkido during a few times, but this still really annecdotic in his life.

  • @MaNoTachi

    He never hide also that in the time of his Uncle, there was no grade or technical programm. He create all that because the world evolve, and so the way to teach and make things know to the public, that's the reason why he put kroma level, degrees , that's of course modern .

    Also I love how his Scarf techniques have the same number of techniques and "Order of techniques" minus the odd elbow and knee thrown in-between for dramatic effect is Identical to Hapkido's "BELT techniques" right down to how you catch the punch and kicks into locks with your belt. And that one Interview where he accidently called his bokator hapkido twice in one of his interviews done with Antonio Graffacio....LMAO

    Hes a 7th degree grandmaster, and started Hapkido training in pre-khmer rouge Cambodia before he came to America, and its strange he didn't want to teach this rare martial art of his country but instead put in years to Mastered and Teach HAPKIDO in America...doesn't make sense...

  • @MaNoTachi

    You can obtain a hight rank without being yourself a teacher. I don't know anything about Korea, but a lot of people in Japan or Europe have a elevated ranked without ruling any school, the rank is just a level of practice. I don't say that Kru San Kim Sean did that, I said He run a class, but He never made it a job, is job was mainly in song and shows.

  • @camboclown

    i do respect kru san kim sean for what he's doing with kun khmer boran now days. but i think he should of been honest from day one about his background in khmer martial arts. i guess the important thing is he's doing something NOW to promote kun khmer and he should be repected for that.

    @MyNameBaboo I think that you don’t have all the informations. If you had them all, you would not have said it.
    How do you want that krus (persons who transmit Khmer Martial Art) in Cambodia, which work on the ricefield, and which have no access to Internet can show you their martial art ?
    However, they teach their martial art in their village in an authentic way.

  • @camboclown

    if you say so "ivan ulanov" lol.....I doubt you've ever studied bokator or Khmer martial arts. so how can you say what it's really like? i've trained in kun Khmer, but i've never trained at the bokator academy so I can't say what it's like there. san kim sean is a controversial character but at least he did something with kun Khmer.

  • @camboclown
    @camboclown 11 років тому +1

    he ran few classes in hapkido? are u kidding? how can kru san kim sean attain a high ranking of 7th dan (or higher) in hapkido if he ran a few classes?. kru san kim sean was a leading figure in hapkido in the khmer community. he has taught many students who attain black belts. he taught hapkido for two decades in america. thats not a few classes. he had "a few time" for hapkido classes but he could'nt find just a little bit more time for teaching bokator?.

  • @camboclown
    @camboclown 11 років тому +1

    san kim sean had time to train and open up a hapkido club in texas and long beach. he had his own hapkido club. a facility to instruct students. this self proclaim "GRAND MASTER OF BOKATOR" had a facility handy to him to teach this rare khmer art to local khmer (he lived in cities with large khmer population) who would of been very interested in learning, but he did'nt!!!!. he could of both taught hapkido and bokator, but he did'nt. a grand master who would'nt teach a rare khmer fighting art??.

    Ancient Khmer warriors Generals like Tey Jo Don Din and Pyea Roung. Pyea Roung who broke away from Cambodia and taught Thai or siamese how to fight and created his own army against the Khmer . That why the new capital from Siem Reap was move to phnom pen today.

    By the way taking the desicion of not teaching is a personnal choice made by many masters, I could personnaly give the name of five around Japan, that write articles, books, but choose to not transmitt anything except to there sons. This is absolutly not an isolated case.

    The Definition of Lbokator according to the Monk Chun Nat is, two short stick held against the forearm, used in the defence of the staff or long stick, thrust toward the ground. That's true definition. The prefix L or Le according to Pali it means "art of, the use of, or the act of'' So please get it right.

    i got a question, when kru san kim sean lived in the u.s.a for 2 decades. why did'nt he teach kun khmer?. if he knew kun khmer boran why did he not teach it, as far as i know he did'nt teach 1 CLASS of kun khmer or open up a kun khmer school in the u.s.a. if he was a grand master of bokatao why did'nt he teach it in the states? instead he spent all his time promoting hapkido especially to the khmer community. it does put a question mark on his credibility.

    @komphor It's kind of bad that SKS is spreading false history about bokatao. We know bokatao is the style with the two arm shields. But at the same time I wouldn't have and most of the world wouldn't have heard of kbach Kun Boran Khmer if it weren't for him. Am I right? He promotes it to the world. The other masters wouldn't

    I do not think its a matter of anyone's carrier. The French guy you are talking about is a "Khmer". He does his best to revive and preserve the khmer martial art.
    I do not say SKS Bokator is a fake (or not khmer, i don't know) but i clearly see the difference between Khomyuth and SKS Bokator...

    Based on some of my 15 years of research, 1) it is clearly to me that Khmer Martial art was more of weapon art aka "Khboun Chambaing" [see Khampuchea ancient temple bas-relie] 2) the hand-to-hand combatant was based on a weapon breakdown techniques/usage such as Dambang Teuk, Veng, Khley, Phkak or swords and etc and we called "Bombaek." 3) L'Bokak Tao among the many Bombaek evolved to "Mae Kun - core technique" that was created mainly to defense upper part of the body.

  • @camboclown
    @camboclown 11 років тому +1

    bokator is kru san kim sean creation. it's his version of kun khmer and there's nothing wrong with that. atleast he did something with kun khmer. but he should stop insisting that bokatao means fighting the lion? when it does'nt. its the twin staff form of kun khmer. luckily there are other kun khmer clubs out there like yuthakun khom, khom yuth. so people have options of kun khmer clubs they can train in. which at the end of the day is a good thing for kun khmer.

  • @jayavarman
    @jayavarman 13 років тому

    4) L'Bokak Tao is one Mae among the 12 Mae Sam/Wai, and the usage is much like the weapons of twin sticks that tie to the forearms as Samdech Chunnat stated in his dictionary. However, L'Bokak Tao strategically mainly strike opponent weakness, joins and strike in various combinations. L'Bokak in Khmer language means quick and power like Aktan, and Tao or Tor means, according to Samdech Chunnat, mean short e.i nak na neng der tor tor.

    1.Concentrated not concentred ...
    2.And he was not in Cinema, as Cinema refers to the movies,film making ect ect...
    3. And you said he was not really involved in the US as a teacher, yet he opened and taught HAPKIDO in on the west coast for years, funny how he never mentioned Bokator back then.
    4.Its Career not Carrier......Carrier is someone who has or delivers something....
    5.He knew exactly what he was doing, recreate a false style and market it online and become wealthy off a lie.

    Their lots of Khmer fighting style Bokator is one man style who did fight a lion wit his bear hand, name Samson, Yutha Krom is fighting system where all Khmer warrior know n use, bear hand or weapon stick or sword style, I think bokator is bear hand combat when u don't have no weapon, muay thai they name after Khmer One free style but not a siam name it. in thai " viet" is a style of fighting style. We do use Lion statue all over Khmer temple tru china to symbolize that Khmer is strong as a lion.

    Moha Yuthkrom Khorm is the ancient martial arts of Khmer people. Bokator is NOT the correct terminology if you're describing or talking about the entire ancient art. That is the bottom line as written in the dictionary. Many learning the art now do NOT like the term Bokator. Whether SKS is fake or not, time will tell because other schools and Krus exist that is currently not in the limelight. I highly doubt that SKS knows all 10000 forms and techniques which comprises of arms as well.

I give credit to Kru San motive but don't support his poor research and poor judgment. But he was the fuel for the continue research and seeking that perfection as well as the authentic of the Khmer Martial Art. CHEYO Khorm Puchea!!!!

    Hes so fake its not even funny, hes forms look so stiff and made up with obviously "Karate" like robot motion with some forced imitation of Khmer dance thrown inbetween, but when you compare Bokator to other khmer styles which is more relaxed and smooth and well put together you can just tell it has actual history. San Kim Saen is a 7th Degree Hapkido registered GrandMaster from a HKD federation, and taught Hapkido only in Long Beach before coming back to Cambodia and magically he knew "Bokator"

    The only master that still puts up with his BS is Master Serey Ros. Other Masters I've met and interviewed wants nothing to do with him but said it's a shame that he's bring Khmer Marital Arts to it's lowest. Only fools would follow him. San Kim Sean style is like Apsara Dancing. Which is fine but don't pretend you know shit when you don't. 'There aren't any color Krama system in Anchient Khmer Martial Arts. He's blending his Hapkido system into the Khmer Martial Art. Which is wrong. Only the Kata which is a white coton rop or ban worn around the wase use to ward of spirits. There are colors of Kaben, which are Blue,Red and Black. Blue, because you are a beginner, Red Becuase you are trained to protect your villiage and be part of the Army, Black because you are the Kings Body Guard and Teacher. His Golden Krama makes me laught. Real master wear white. They are monks or former monks that know Pali. Not show off his golden Krama. He looks like Pra mean kon vil. The children spirit the protects the house and other things. Oh wait also the name of the May Twear here is repeated from other masters. He doesn't know them only after being told. They told him the names and he's now using it. I've showed this to all the other masters and they laughed. One Master told me to ask him a few series of Questions that will show if he really knows what he said he knows. Those questions I will ask him myself. Here is the history of the Asiatic Lions. Those carvings and statues may have came Idian stories which is right. But in this video he said that the men of Angkor hunt lions to eat! Wow I want him to go Phonm Ta Moew and fight with those Lions there. The world, especially the Khmer Community in the US and everywhere need to know that he is a fake. We can't let Khmer people continue to lie to others and bring us to shame. Sooner or later it will catch up with us. Like Somaly Mam. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asiatic_lion
