I don't know anything about Korea, but a lot of people in Japan or Europe have a elevated ranked without ruling any school, the rank is just a level of practice. Based on some of my 15 years of research, 1) it is clearly to me that Khmer Martial art was more of weapon art aka "Khboun Chambaing" [see Khampuchea ancient temple bas-relie] 2) the hand-to-hand combatant was based on a weapon breakdown techniques/usage such as Dambang Teuk, Veng, Khley, Phkak or swords and etc and we called "Bombaek." 3) L'Bokak Tao among the many Bombaek evolved to "Mae Kun - core technique" that was created mainly to defense upper part of the body.
