Us Equestrian sorts caught it too. No mention of other types but, Government and Lippitt....sad to see Lippitt numbers so low! Got to get back to Foundation stock traits and looks.
My father rode Morgans in the US Army in the 30’s when we still had a Calvary. I later helped my daughter acquire 2 Morgan mares. They were incredible & so sweet. They can do anything & will be your best friend.
You missed the most incredible fact. They weren't bred. The Morgan was an accident. The farmer was smart enough early on to realize he had an incredible horse, and when he discovered it bred "true" then it could be a breed ... and he could charge a lot for breeding!
Bought a Morgan for my daughter to take to fair 4H etc. We tried other breeds first. We found the Morgan horse is such a willing horse. I would never buy any horse that wasn’t a registered Morgan. Even if it costs a little more. The Morgan is the way to go.
My first horse was a 21 year old Lippitt Morgan gelding who was given to me as a kid. He taught me so much, and inspired a lifelong love of horses and especially the incredible Morgans. Loved the spotlight! ❤
I rode a Morgan horse for the first time today and came here to learn more... neat to find out I share the same first name of the first Morgan horse! Cool coincidence :)
We have an 8 year old Morgan mare. We bought her when she was a 4 month old filly. She's a total joy but she can be a bit quirky sometimes. She doesn't like rain nor does she like going into water, but she does like splashing in puddles.
I own one of the very last copies of the original book printed in 1955! Although I do not have a Morgan horse, it is a beautifully written book, and I do love horses altogether. Though I have had pleasure in meeting a Morgan and broken bow Oklahoma a beautiful animal that had an accident he got wrapped up in barbed wire fence. I read the book when I was just a youngster and have loved the book of that particular horse since then.❤😊
I have a 15 yr old morgan gelding named seven his registered name is m river gunslinger he is the most wonderful horse, he's solid black and beautiful. He loves people big and small. I feel so fortunate to find and buy him. I love him he'll be my boy till I leave this planet.
Thank you for sharing this story. My 7 yr old son just read a little story book called Five True Horse Stories, which captures The Story of Justin Morgan, the biggest little horse of all". Thank you for bringing 'Figure" into our real time reflection of the story.
I am now 66 years old. My mother, born in 1923, had a much loved Morgan mare named Hazel during her high school years. Unfortunately during her freshman year in college her beloved horse was kicked by a fully shod horse and died from 8nternal injuries. Mom said that was the most painful loss in her young life. I saw a couple of old pictures of Hazel. She was a beautiful lady, indeed.
Read the book! And in 1973 we got our first Morgan "Beau Brandon" Later we bought a mare for him, "Easter's Windsong". They had a filly in 1978 "Leia Celébrite" They were beautiful. They were family.
I actually have watched the movie of Justin Morgan had a horse. I absolutely loved it so much that I watched it again and again and again and again so many times. I even have the Breyer horse of Figure. I even bought the movie on DVD
im in australia and i have 5 morgans they are pretty rare here my horses blood lines are mostly lippett i ride just for pleasure, i have colt i think would do western riding he is a little stunner
Read the book, watched the movie. I love the Lippett Morgan and Friesians the most. They have the most presence of all the horse breeds, to my mind. When I was looking for my current horse there just happened to be a Moriesian mare for sale. I bought her and she is a great combination of both breeds and they are currently a breed of their own. She is the kindest, most willing soul I have ever met.
I had the privilege as a child to be chosen by my very first Morgan. His name was Wilde Jester. He was 13.3 hands of willingness and sassiness. I did large pony hunter with him, evented through training level and received my B rating in Pony Club. My next Morgan was a character named Justawee Jo Benfield. Affectionately named Brat! I showed him in Children’s Hunter and did Third Level Dressage with him. He was our family member until he was 30 years old. I had the honor of being with him at the end. These horses have so much talent and versatility- they also have a wonderful and quirky sense of humor!
I had my first Morgan for 23 years. His name was Rio and he was everything to me. We did so many fun and exciting things. I still miss him every second of everyday. I now have my second Morgan, his name is Cole. He suprises me everyday with his quirky attitude and neverending curiosity. Morgans are the best horses in the world!
I have had Morgan's most of my life Bounty named after the man I bought him from he stood 14.3 he was the spitting image of Justin Morgan this was back in the 70's he was known as the old type Morgan the most reliable trail horse you could ask for. I bought a mare Whimsical that was bred to Merry Mel's Joker from Utah. Producing MSF Brandy he was written up in the Morgan Horse magazine when he won the Travis Cup endurance ride in the 1980's There is an old saying Morgan's can do it all
I found a Morgan mare yesterday. She is 16 years old. She is black. 🖤💙 My favorite color. She is Kids safe and family friendly. She looks very promising for me. They mentioned in the ad description that she is good for beginners, since I am a beginner. And the price is right for me. I want to provide a suitable place for her, air-conditioned, shaded, and trusted horseman to look after her when I'm away. BUT!!! despite this, I am afraid that she will not stand the heat, especially since she is black. So my question is: Can she tolerate this severe heat and live in the regions of the Middle East ?? Is buying and bringing her at this time of year okay? She will be my first horse, God willing. I will provide her, God willing, with everything she needs, but I need advice. I still consult many people to make sure that I do not cause her unintended harm.
What an exciting time for you, congratulations! My suggestion would be to talk with someone near you that has imported a horse, check with local barns and stables to see what they recommend in regards to importing a horse and keeping them comfortable during their transition.
I had a mourad when I bought him they told me he was 8 the veterinarian said he was 18 best horse ever had I'mma tell you something about that boy he was a great horse unfortunately I had to leave him behind when I move to Idaho at that time his age was 23 but he was still jumping trail rides that I got a degree in I got rhythm from him you know one of those judges trail rides I miss him
yes i have a morgan and he is the best but finding halters is hard lol.We are still in training but he has alrady been broken but..... he hasnt been ridden in 5 ish years he is 17 hand wich is tall for a morgan but as sweet as a kitten and he is a sooty bukskin!
I'm 60 years old and as far as I know in north west Florida nobody but me as ever seen the movie on Disney iv always won't to own one after I seen the movie iv rode horses for over 52 years
i played red dead redemption 2 about the period in american life round 1882 to the ending of wild west society when law began to reduce outlaw gangs by hunting them...the morgan horse was just a less than common horse , seems like poor man's choice to ride on a morgan...with the most highest as best horse the arabians , the turkoman's , missouri fox trotter, mustan, nokota's, hungarian halfbred, thoroughbred, Tenessee walker, apaloosa, painted horse, kentucky saddler, and so on : thus the morgan is last in this list...thought they were bad horses...the mule as last choice...after this vid i change my mind about Morgans, they are great horses too.
No the Morgan was bought from a canadian farmer. the horse is the canadian horse brought from france to canada early on. we call it le petit cheval de fer
Both my mom and I love Appaloosas! She used to have a leopard Appaloosa, but she sold it because she started having kids (apparently it was pregnant even though the vet told her it wasn’t and my mom didn’t even get the foal!) She still has another Appaloosa and she’s in her 20’s so we just let her chill because she has a bad back. She’s super sweet though!
I’m sure I’m not the first person to mention your slip of the tongue, but PLEASE correct the video (take it down and redo it or do a simple voiceover) to change 1979 to 1779.
Have you read or watched, "Justin Morgan Had a Horse?" 📀📖
Yes I have. Why I have one!
I will watch it, because I haven’t. I love Disney movies, or random movies that include horses. You can never split me up with a horse 🐴;)
I have watched the movie! Want to read the book though!
The Morgan is like the Chausie cat, they too only pick one person 🥰
I’ve watched the movie recently 😊
I remember watching Justin Morgan Had a Horse as a tv special as a kid. Being crazy about horses, it made me ridiculously happy every time it aired.
Ditto
Do you realize that when you were talking about the origins of the breed you said it was in 1979 instead of 1779?
Us Equestrian sorts caught it too. No mention of other types but, Government and Lippitt....sad to see Lippitt numbers so low! Got to get back to Foundation stock traits and looks.
Yes!!!
@@gloworm6387 That's what I do. LOL
@@gloworm6387 They should have caught that and edited it before adding it to UA-cam though.
I thought I had heard that… I was like hold up. George Washington in 1979??
I grew up around Morgan’s and their still my favorite breed 20 years later! I love everything about them!
Awww, that is so wonderful!

This is a really well done video, Alyssa! And that little Morgan foal is so cute!

See the movie on Sunday nite when i was a boy on Wonderful world of Disney vividly remember it.

Both, they are my favorite. I have owned a dozen Morgan's and crosses. Teach riding, trails, barrels. Hopefully endurance in the future
my great grandpa trained morgans in iowa for farmers and homesteads
My grandpa trained Morgans too, back in the 20's and 30's - in Ohio.

I own a Morgan and it is true the horse that chooses you! He’s more of a lippitt style but idk he would be considered one.
good summary
I have a Morgan Mare, we are competing working equitation....
Read the book many years ago

morgans are incredible endurance horses. I have a small herd of them and we do endurance, foxhunting, and hunter paces.
Ooooh, sounds like you have a blast with them!!
Damn, George Washington was president in 1979? 0:32
Just before Ronald Reagan.

My favorite breeds would be Mustang, American Quarter, Xersion, Draft, Tennessee Walker, Appaloosa, Which breeds are your favorites?

1979?!
It is the number one first United States breed
