Soda Stereo is from the same era as The Police and The Who, and indeed there are some musical similarities in some songs. However their musical range is actually impressively varied and you can find connections to The Cure, U2, Depeche Mode and even bands like Green Day or Pink Floyd. With that said, It is also worth noting they had a unique flavor of their own, with complex musical compositions and lyrics made ambiguous enough to allow most people to imbue their own meanings into them. The list of songs proposed in Spanish by the previous response is a good sample, but their discography is waaay bigger than that. They had dozens of hit songs and hundreds of songs in total.
Hi my dear, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas time with your family, friends and your fiancé. The song you reacted to was - to be honest - not my cup of tea. The music was okay, but I did not understand why he smashed his guitar... and it did leave a big "question mark" on both of our faces, I believe. Your reaction to it - as far as I could "read" your facial expression - showed me that before you googled the meaning of the lyrics, you felt a bit left out and the only positive thing you could mention, was the musical part. But anyway, I really like that you take on any type of musical style amd genre, any language, any choice of instruments... I like that you are so open to check out any kind of music and try to find something positive in it. So I have a few suggestions for you to react to in the near future : Eivor Pasldottir : Trodlabundin (Trollabundin) 10.08.13 John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, Paco de Lucia : Mediterranean Sundance / Rio Ancho (Live at Warfield Theatre, San Francisco, CA -December 5, 1980) Beth Hart : Am I the one Live at Paradiso Sean Webster & The Dead Lines : I'd rather go blind Live at Bluesmoose Cafe Sting : Russians (Official Music Video) Godley and Creme : Cry (Official Music Video) Jeff Healey : See the light - Night Music 1988 Hugs and kisses from your dear friemd Gerry
Saludos!
He would often smash guitars for this song, but in general Gustavo Cerati was not a guitar smasher musician, the reason being that his favorite stage guitar was a gift from his late father. This song was a bit of an outlier to this style which generally was far more orchestral and less grungy also. Highly recommend you hear at least one or two of his other works such as "Signos", "Genesis", or "Corazon Delator".
First time hearing this. I liked it. The guitar bit was an avant-garde touch coupled with showmanship ala The Who. I dig it.
