This guy and with his channel@@rodnyg7952 but that is not what i said, i said gibson are garbage. I love them and have a few but they can't compete on quality to my Kiesel/Carvin guitars for example.
I rewind pickups for fun. When I find some cheap knock offs, I pull them apart. Some of them I’ll use for tone research and some I’ll rewind a few bobbins. The baseplates are grounded like a tele pickup if you know what I mean. I reuse them for different reasons. Most of these knock offs, the magnets are not fully charged, and they overwind them to try and make it likeable. It’s like putting lipstick on a pig. I recharge the magnets and wax pot them or lacquer pot them depending on the material I’m using. I did my own EVH spin on a few of them just for fun. I like some of the stuff I made just rebuilding these pups.
Dave i think you should buy your own Polaris Les Paul and do a step by step hardware upgrade video on it. Spread it over a few vids. Strip and replace Everything, show everybody how to make these even better.
Stick some fkn Epiphone pickups in it :P I love the Epi pickups in my G400 SG (2005 model). Just standard 2 wire HOTCH + 57 Epi standard fare: brilliant!
ah sod it me again, thought I’d add another question with the humbucker gap next to the bridge,I’m looking at the torque,or metal for the bridge, and maybe rolling blues for neck, I play stones, and classic rock stuff or could you advise on a good set cheers dave
I do classic rock covers and also some heavier stuff when doing originals, I find that a Hot Slag in the bridge and blues engine in the neck works great for me. made by Iron Gear
Hi Dave first of all love yr channel advice, and reviews.i have a major problem at mo I got one of them Harley Benton teles(don’t laugh)it’s the one with the top loading strings, not through body.thing is I’m starting to custom it but it’s got a 3 bridge,I’d like to change it for a 6 bridge with the humbucker gap, that’s another question later.thing is would the 6 bridge fit on with the 3 bridge as I want to change it or any advice please it’s doing my head in cheers
You'll probably find the 8K pickup is wound with 42AWG and the 12K with 43AWG. Although I think if thats the case, the 12K is still under-wound and should be in the realm of 15K. But you're probably right Dave, chuck an Alnico magnet in and you're good to go (except that 12K pickup). Although what you would have been better off doing would be to measure the gauss of the magnets. Ceramic are generally fairly high and saturate the coils - hence why they generally sound bad. Not to say all ceramic based pickups sound bad.
I have a Polaris LP Custom. The pickups in that a shite. Binning those off. Along with all the other hardware and nut. Stripping it back to the just the body and neck and replacing everything.
they won't rip you off on Ali .. and they open a chat with you and communicate all the while. but just be prepared for legit 60 days between ordering and receiving

@@DaveBarlowGuitar Yes, but being a "real life guy telling it how he sees it" in this case does turn out to be "bullshit". Sorry for sounding so rude, everyone is free to do what they want and make videos they want, and I'm not saying these pickups are some cheap hidden jem (they're not), but you're clearly not qualified to judge if pickups are poorly built or not (not going into how they sound). From "neodymium" magnet, to concluding pickup is waxed badly because there is little residue (wrong). A little research before finishing a video would go a long way.
Don't take this the wrong way (but you probably will) I said MAYBE, never said they were, seems to me you are generating a synthetic argument for the sake of it, I will be watching out for your video about your personal thoughts on pickups. chibson is all garbage, not just the pickups
also gibson

Some top loaders sound a bit too top endy for me, great for Bass Guitars, not so great for 6 stringers. Cut your losses and sell it :), Sorry :)
Check out these chibson pickups 'master hao pickups' - very nice
Keep showing us the shit Dave...

Hi there, I am happy to buy the bobbins and the pickups you replace from chibson guitars. If you them listed somewhere would be awesome!
I just got the evh model from Polaris and I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality.
I dumped the stock Chibson pickups for the Tesla Shark set. It made all the difference in sound quality. It's worth the price.
I'm by no means a pickup snob, but I had to replace my gold chibson pickups in my Polaris LPC - terrible lol
First thing I did was ditch all the hardware. The tesla shrak pickups work great.
I have always wanted to get a Chibson. I am too scared to use Ali for fear of being ripped off. How do you go about it without fear of that?
they won't rip you off on Ali .. and they open a chat with you and communicate all the while. but just be prepared for legit 60 days between ordering and receiving
Nice!
good vid!
You need to measure the Henrys of the magnets
True
Gauss - Henrys are for inductance.
Oi.... Those are my pickups 🤣🤣🤣🤣
not anymore LOL
I am also shocked at the tiny things people complain about. Mental. 😝
Pulls out a black magnet from a budget pickup, "maybe it's NEODYDIUM" - still finds himself qualified to judge quality of pickups.
