Oh, I forgot to mention, I liked your explanation of thumb position and I discovered I can do thumb position anywhere on finger board as an alternative to FINGER scale string crossing reaches. The way that I started practicing...was playing by ear with different you-tube music and JBL speakers. This was fun and enjoyable...and it sounded real good. I previously played fiddle for decades- still do. I found cello to be a giant violin with a lower "C" string. It's the same fingering spaces basically only bigger. I love the tone and bass of cello. My thumb is still hurting!!!!!!...and throbbing...
Yeah, deciding to practice thumb position. I usually played in lower positions. I worked thumb too much. I now have a throbbing sore thumb. I need to rest my thumb for a few days. That upper Octive scale is a monumental effort to have good intonation as thumb use is equivalent to the pain of a hammer injury. 😜
