I know this vid is a bit old, but thanks, it provides very valuable insight as to the inner workings of Intune and Win registry. Thanks again, you guys rock!!
We are finding now that this method has been intermittently working. Some devices work, and some don't that are assigned the same config profile for location services with the remediation script. Wondering if maybe a Windows update broke it? Devices are all Windows 10.
Great video on time zone , our organization has been struggling with timezone for some time , i would also like to share some techniques which we are following which allows us not to enable location services but set time zone 1. When a autopilot is built it asks us to selection region , respective reg key (HKEYCU/controlpanel/International/Geo) 2. Based on the above value , we created a powershell script to set timezone accordingly Since powershell runs only once it allows end users to set time zone from GUI as well as we dont have to enable location services which has been blocked due to security reason Personally i feel , why dont Microsoft set the timezone as per the region selected during initial setup of laptop
k.p Sandeep - Would you mind sharing this script being used to set the time zone? We have been struggling with this situation and your approach seems feasible.
@@IntuneTraining Saw you went between two registry keys with pretty long path, using the Favorite menu in regedit and sitch between there could reduce scrolling back and forth between two values
Do you guys have any videos on how to change local group policies using in-tune for cloud only environments? for example passwords, log retention period etc thanks guys! As always delivering great content!
Thanks for doing this. I did the same thing on Win10 (and not as nice as your PR script) but found that location was very unreliable. Had a number of users whos locations would jump to different time zones despite the fact that they hadn't moved. I ended up rolling all this back because it was too inconsistent despite the policies being set correctly.
some restrictions Licensing Proactive remediations requires the licensing for Endpoint analytics and also requires users of the devices to have one of the following licenses: Windows 10/11 Enterprise E3 or E5 (included in Microsoft 365 F3, E3, or E5) Windows 10/11 Education A3 or A5 (included in Microsoft 365 A3 or A5) Windows 10/11 Virtual Desktop Access (VDA) per user
Hey what is the probability a device being connected to a VPN at the time of the config profile and remediation script syncing affecting the accuracy of the location services and time zone?
@@IntuneTraining Hi guys! Can confirm it works! Tested on a VM and laptop. If the location can't be determined there is a notification so the user can set their default location. If you change the location, in a few minutes or a reboot the time is adjusted to the location! :) Good work guys!
At one time we knew the reason why we set to manual instead of auto but honestly can’t recall. I want to say that it was just so that we could allow the service to update and it can’t do that when the service is disabled. But auto was forcing it on and that wasn’t good either.
Ensure user doesn't have local admin is the starting point, then leverage application whitelisting, be it via applocker or windows defender application control, this means that even if the binaries are installed they can't execute them on the computer

Ben the rockstar! I sit here wearing my Powers Hell hoodie delighted for the treats of knowledge you guys will bring! Whatup Adam!?
Thank you guys so much! Tested successfully on Windows 10.

Good video, thanks! Adam - do you ever use the Favorites feature in regedit? it is pretty sweet
What is this wizardry!??

Hey, will this work for Windows 10 also?
As mentioned in the video - we didn’t test with Windows 10. Please give it a go and let us know what you find out. We HOPE it does.

I see that you set the service Manual. Is there any reason you wouldn't want to set it to Auto?

Its no longer working guys
Are there any updates to the code in github? This is failing on 3 of my test machines.
Detection status: With issues
Remediation status: Failed
autotimezone updater service stops immediately after start on all machines :/
It’s been a minute but I’m almost certain that’s expected behavior.
hi any idea how to block user to installing thrid party app in windows with help of intune

@@IntuneTraining can you please recommend me a video or doc to follow-up
Or, or… hear me out… just leave the privacy settings page shown so the users can allow location services to be enabled :P
Blasphemy!!
ugh ... timezones ... why can't the entire world use one and the same timezone? Would solve so much headaches
Or maybe MS can just fix this stuff…
