I really never had a favorite John Deere tractor and over the years and over the years singing and watching all the different ones I finally decided that the 4020 is my favorite John Deere
Jimmy Strain I’ve upvoted but there was this tiny voice in my head reminding me of the JD 4050, which can not and should not be forgotten when talking about the best JD ever made.
I spent many an hour on a 4020,discing,planting and cultivating beans, mowing, taking and baking hay.Loved that old tractor, who knows,I might buy one someday soon. They are a good size for my area.
I shared this video with Dwight Kuster because we both know how much he loves his 4020. It's great to see this old model still working out in the field.
Absolutely the best tractor John Deere ever made thanks for sharing that I was pretty cool video and thanks for sharing about the tires I never knew they were called mark her tires
The 4020 is definitely a legendary tractor, no question about that. Seems as though everyone and their brother has a 4020 for sale today, and they are proud of them. A quick scroll thru Craigslist or the marketplace will yield you many more 4020s for sale versus an 806 or 856, at least here on ohio.
I love the look of that rops and canopy on these 4020s. My grandad had a massey Ferguson 275 with a similar looking rops canopy on it and this look just brings back memories even though they’re 2 completely different tractors
Thanks for the education on the John Deere tractor I never drove a 40 20 looks like its very strong I like the way it shift thanks for the information 👍🇺🇸
After 4 years and 1000,s of hrs on a 4010, dad had a new 4020 and plow delivered ...we set it up and I still remember making the first round ..( but an A JD on that drill and that was dad )
I want that 4020 power shift HWFA you had in the power shift description in this video. I’ve seen the video where that was the main subject as well. I have the same 8300 drill but I pull it with a 1978 Massey 1085. I sure do enjoy your videos. Thanks for all the hard work.
Thank you so much for this Amazing Film!! I grew up with a 3020 & 4020 many years ago, and still dreams about finding one to collect one day. The fact that those Iron Horses still runs today on a small & medium size farming operation, 55 years after production, shows something!! They were made to WORK!! Simple & Strong Iron Horses to work the fildes on a reasonable price & low maintenance costs. Yes!! Bring more films like this 1 - Maybe next time the Farmall M/H?!
From 1966 to 1979, our "Big" tractor was an Oliver 1850 gas. My Uncle had a John Deere 4020 diesel as his "Big" tractor. I loved running them both, but preferred to run the 4020. It was like running the Cadillac of tractors. Loved the style, Loved the sound.
The 4000 series were some great tractors. I use my 4010 daily on the farm it has a cab and loader so it gets a work out in the winter time! Mine also has the front facing PTO so one day I would like to get a front mounting snowblower to use during the winter.
While you are talking about drills we always used what Dad called a press drill which did not have wheels on the ends but had two wheels up front and then a press wheel behind each row to pack the dirt around seeds. We always used JD drills because they had large diameter (approx. 30" diameter) as compared to other brands which pulled easier and rolled over clumps of plant residue and rocks better.
I would like to film a press drill some time. I saw a John Deere 60ft John Deere 9350 press drill in Montana parked at a John Deere dealer. I recently saw a 15ft IH 620 press drill at a local auction yard. They would be beat to film if I could find them running in the field.
Ah the memories, we drove red but grew up with the same, spent many years running 15' at a time... IH 966 on the same red drill.... 6 row planters, 18' tillage tools and a 720 6 bottom plows on the 1566...
@@bigtractorpower Yep, we had a Farmal 400 with a belt drive and a straw blower we filled the hay mounts with, ran that into my teens... The 560 is still on the farm, one of my favorites... thats what I was stuck with on 6 row cultivating every summer... we row cultivated corn twice and soybeans 3 times if we could... and walked the beans, we had a seed business. When I was a senior in HS I bought a CASE 1175 and a 12 row cultivator... LOL!!!! showed them.... hahahaha!!!!
Like Dan W said we would start from outside & work our way to center than make x going from center to all 4 corners, we didn't have a 4020 , we had a 2010 john deere ,than after I left & joined the Marine Corps my brother got a 3020 to do the farming I miss those days
Thanks again, BTP. The closest tractor I used close to the 4020 was my Paternal Grandpa's 3010 gas burner. It seems like that engine was a 6-cylinder. Neither one of my grandpas were into diesel tractors at all... I tried to get them to buy something like a diesel Farmall 560
Steve Holsten I thought 3010’s were gigantic compared to my first tractor I drove, which was a JD 420. My biggest problem was forgetting to put my sweeps down starting a new row. I was 10 yrs old. My last tractor - JD 4955 four wheel drive. Retired now.
We had the same outfit on the first farm I worked on. Every spring we planted oats and alfalfa with it. We used a cultipacker behind the drill. The 4020 was a Syncro range diesel with a narrow front. This farmer like to plant by starting on the outside of the field and working our way to the middle. He wanted the hay mowed the same way so he wasn't traveling on the headland without mowing. We also had a 4020 power shift diesel. I will be trying to buy that tractor soon.
Big fan of the 2 stroke Detroit Diesel. Premium products are nice...but premium prices are not. This is a great way to get that premium price without paying a premium to do so imo.
I remember many an hour planting wheat for Dad out in Washington State on irrigated farm. He drove a 60 John Deere w/ tricycle front end pulling an old John Deere LLZ drill on steel wheels.
There's lots of that kind of seed drills in use in Finland, 3pt, semi-mounted or drawbar-versions, locally made brands. I think today most common type seeder sold in Finland is machine which have many small wheels next to each other on the rear of machine and it's like roller behind seeder, but in one machine. Like this one: ua-cam.com/video/JYB-B6_M7vo/v-deo.html
We used our 4020s for just about anything. Including hauling manure in the winter and picking corn. On cold days I would warm my hands up on the muffler. We didn't need GPS because we knew how to plant a straight row. Back then we cultivated too so you had to be precise. That skill is just another one fading away because of technology.
I have my Grandpa’s 2020 HU with factory Rollbar/canopy. You don’t see very many around here with the canopy. Most of the ones you do were added years later.
We have an old 1964 4020. It has 3 reverse gears in it. People at the dealer didn’t believe us but it came that way from factory. Bought it new and still in the family.
I really never had a favorite John Deere tractor and over the years and over the years singing and watching all the different ones I finally decided that the 4020 is my favorite John Deere
Nothing like the sound of a 4020 a legend in action 👍
I ran a 4020 when I was a kid love it best tractor J D ever made
Jimmy Strain I’ve upvoted but there was this tiny voice in my head reminding me of the JD 4050, which can not and should not be forgotten when talking about the best JD ever made.
The good old days of farming. We had two 4010s. Enjoyed driving them.
This is one of the tractors that helped make John Deere what it is today.
Best video ever! Thank you so much!!!
We ran a 4020 for many years here in the UK. Best tractor of all-time.
John Deere 4020. Still the star 🌟 of the show!!
I grew up on a 4020 and drilled a lot of wheat ground in the fall. Best time of my life. Boy, I miss it.
Great information! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching.
Still a fine looking tractor We had one on Dad's farm in the early 70's
I've been binge watching 4020's tonight. Got a special treat with this one with the 8300.
Thank you for watching. The 4020 with canopy ROPs is a hood look.
nothin like a real tractor still working
That's a nice tractor and it gets the job done👍
I spent many an hour on a 4020,discing,planting and cultivating beans, mowing, taking and baking hay.Loved that old tractor, who knows,I might buy one someday soon. They are a good size for my area.
My 1st tractor I ever plowed with was a JD 4000 diesel. luv these ole girls.thanks for the video
Thats one good looking John Deere 4020 planting oats with a John Deere planter nice job keep up the good work nice job 👏👍
Used to have 2 JD 4000s back in the mid to late 70s..one a syncro the other power shift..had a year round cab on the one..loved those tractors
I like those 4000s

llove the drone footage!
Absolutely the best tractor John Deere ever made thanks for sharing that I was pretty cool video and thanks for sharing about the tires I never knew they were called mark her tires
The marker tires are old school but they work.

Nothing like the sound of a 4020 with a turbo and straight pipe neighbor used to have one
He drives straighter than some greenstars I've used 😎
I love the look of that rops and canopy on these 4020s. My grandad had a massey Ferguson 275 with a similar looking rops canopy on it and this look just brings back memories even though they’re 2 completely different tractors
I like Massey’s. The 70’s canopy ROPs do look similar.
Chulada de tractor buen video
Thanks for the education on the John Deere tractor I never drove a 40 20 looks like its very strong I like the way it shift thanks for the information 👍🇺🇸
My Uncle had a 4020, great tractor.
Good information as always about the tractor being featured. Even tho I prefer the red Farmalls, I have to admit I do like the ol' John Deere 4020s.
low tech man...low tech. gotta love it

4020, the first tractor I ever drove
Awesomeness.
I love old machines :-)
Use that old iron. Get your money's worth!
Beautiful. Single speaker AM Radio mounted somewhere on canopy or ROP ..... would be cherry on top.

good video I still have a 4020 and a model B drill don't get used much anymore .
Classic #JohnDeere action.

Lovely 4020, our neighbors had a 3020, for me as a child it looks like a beast
They were big tractors in there day.
I love JD 4020s
👍👍
Dad bought a new 1967 4020 power shift also 5 bottom 5-16 semi mounted plow
Me encanta ese tractor

I did not know about the tire ridge.
It seems like the GPS on that tractor could get a sore neck.
Classic! Yeah, the tractor and the drill, sure. But I'm talking about carrying the extra sack of seed on top of the drill! Great video.

The 3010 has a 4 cylinder engine for all three fuel types.
Sweet ride 😀
We had a 4020 with a front end loader when I was a kid.
Great video yes we have a 8200 great drill hopper got a few rust holes be we just duck tape them up lol
Solid drills built to last.
Best tractor there is. Dad had one on are farm
😁👍👍
Es un buen tractor
Did the same thing with our 4020 today
👍👍
"nice Video"!
Thank you for watching.
We have an early model 4020 and a late model 4320. Both great tractors
Very cool. I just posted a 4320 video a couple of weeks ago on 4/3/20.
I'm aware I watched it the same day😁
Love the old school equipment. Too bad the prices of equipment have quadrupled and commodity prices have stayed the same.
Machinery is a big investment.
I don't know if you do this or take requests but it'll be great if you can find a JD 2040 4x4. That was the first tractor that I was taught to plough
I like the 2040. If I find one to film I will feature it.
I drove 4020 with both types of tranmission.
Nice. Which did you like better.

Yo me ensene manejar en uno como ese
Siembra de soya
Where's the culti-packer?
Not all areas use a roller or packer behind a drill. They defiantly help germination and tamping down stones.
And John Deere
How Is it possible without auto steer? Haha

Interesting. Good buy new.
Gr8 tractor not 4x4 or 500hp
Wow, a tractor without air conditioning, GPS, or a stereo!!! How old fashioned.
All classic.
