Well, this is the first, out of five videos, that actually explains what the ESP Off button does. The snow berm analogy was the best example of it's function, and in three minutes. Thanks for this information, especially since I live in Buffalo, NY., this will help the wife and I. Adios.

Been driving for close to 60 years and during that time, I have driven in some of the most treacherous winter conditions imaginable, all without traction control. To me, traction control is nothing but a crutch for those who wont take the time or don't really want to learn how to drive in adverse conditions. So the first thing I do whenever driving in snowy conditions is to turn off the traction control and trust my driving skills.
You are so right. I love to go out and drive in the worst conditions imaginable. Blowing snow, sleet, ice-covered roads, frozen slush, the works. This further enhances my driving skills, every year. If you can't drive in these conditions, too scared to be behind the wheel, you shouldn't be driving, at all. If you get in and think about getting stuck, you will, stay home.
@@stephenmartini5890 Well said. All these attachments are nothing but crutches for people who aren't willing to really learn how to drive safely in hazardous driving conditions.
well that's funny, I had no idea my car had this until it showed up on my dashboard saying it was off. We get no snow in here in California... so thank you. I was able to find the button, and so easy to take that light off my dashboard.
Thank you! I've rarely been able to get up my steep uphill driveway for the last couple of years and just happened to notice this button a couple of days ago. After three failed attempts at getting up my driveway last night (and three dangerous trips backing down the driveway which has a steep drop on one side), I remembered this button and pushed it. The fourth attempt wasn't easy, but I made it. I thought the button was turning Traction Control on. Thank you for explaining how or actually works!!! I have a feeling there will be less parking at the bottom of the hill this year. :)
Great video Ben. TCS keeps you stuck. I teach that to many of my customers. (I drive a towtruck). However, maybe an edit or new video about the safety features and how they can actually be dangerous to drivers. I myself, do not like ABS, TCS, ESC, ESP. I was taught to drive correctly and can employ threshhold braking, accelerate/avoid, as well many more techniques and high-speed techniques. The fact that people become complacent and all these features can make a person over confident, thus becoming dangerous is a big issue. Over-driving those safety features is a huge risk. Great! been trying to find a detailed explanation of that button. I just upgraded and bought me an 16 Charger and was wondering. Good looking out with this video 👍 Thx
My advance Trac and power steering now, is on. My cars front right tire spends and yes, car jerks and will cut off. I have to cut it on sometimes one time sometimes five. It's not fun when you are in traffic. So cutting off Trac will help it. Not the codes behind but least my car from cutting off? Also, I replaced my steering and it didn't help. Everything locked up and cut back on next day. Freaking stressed out! Hoping this will least help from the car cutting off. If I cut traction off.
@@BenLindseyKiaLove i took it to my mechanic. I don't have money to take to an actual dealer. It's just braking itself. Cut off. Takes me an hour to get home when should take me thirty minutes. Im driving me back up car
How do you reset the ESC Off light? We just changed our alternator. Everything is golden but the ESC Off light is showing on the dash; pressing the button does nothing. New TIPM about a year a year ago. Battery is charging golden. Suggestions?
@@BenLindseyKiaLove Thank you so much. Well, something is whacked. We put in a new TIPM in January so when things didn't resolve w/new alternator we thought it might be a bad TIPM. We returned it and had them send us a new one (under warranty). It is installed and while the ESC light is off, we are still having electronic issues; for example, the rear defrost blinks for the first 30-60 seconds when you start the car. At this point, we're just laughing and shaking our head. Our rule of thumb is when it becomes more expensive to repair a car than what it's worth it might be time for the grave yard. We're hesitant to do so because we put a brand new ($4000) tranny in a year ago. Thought about going back to a horse but there would be high feed and vet bills hahahahaha. Anyway, next step is to call our electronics tech and have him go through everything. Thank you for your wisdom. Merry Christmas to you.

Thank you for the video. I just got a Subaru Outback and before the first snow hits here, I want to know the best way to drive in it. I will turn off the traction control before I head into deeper snow.
I love Subaru's I had an Outback LL Bean V6. It was probably one of the nicest cars I've owned. Fun to drive too! The Subaru AWD will do a lot of the functions that trac, stablity etc. do for 2 wheel drive cars. It depends on which Subaru AWD setup you have. I would drive it with the Traction Control on first and see how it does. If it gets too deep or you want to do some sliding etc. then turn it off. You are going to really enjoy your Subaru this winter. Congratulations.
💪🏿💪🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿 Ben. I drive a 2005 Mitsubishi Pajero GLS 3.0L Petrol, over here in the tropics. Incidentally, when I hit a rut or one wheel goes off the ground, that light starts blinking a bit till car is out of the rut. The light then goes off. I'm wondering, does this mean the Traction control system activate itself? There is a button for it, which I never touch.
Yes that just means the system is currently working. It should default to ON every time you turn the car on. That sounds like normal working behavior. That wheel that gets off the road is trying to get back in sync with the others. It sounds like it is working fine. Where are you watching from?
Been searching for a demo of an AWD car (mainly Subaru) going up a muddy or snowy hill with this turned off and on to see the difference. Have not found one yet. Make one and you'll get a like from me. I do like your explanation the best so far, though. Thanks!
Thank you for the compliment. Man I had an Outback L.L. Bean V6 a while back. (Before my Channel) I have a gnarley driveway and I used to rip it up. I can't remember the trac/differential set up but...anyways I sold Subys several times and its all about which diff set up you have. There are some mechanical and some electric and some both. But that makes all the difference with the way your Subaru will interact with the CPU; IE stability track abs etc.. Some of the early 2000's were still mostly mechanical and they really didn't need any electric control! We used to go out to the trade in lot in the snow and try them all out! Anysways I gotta get another brew! Have a good night. Hope that helps your search.
Thanks for the reply, I have a 2014 Outback 2.5i Premium if that helps. I've read about turning the traction control off in snow and muddy conditions but was curious to see what the real difference is. Sounds like your driveway is the ultimate test track 😁
I was just trying it in my 2015 forester, up a shallow hill with slippery mud. Turning the traction control off made it notably faster. Also putting it in Low was better than in High/Normal.
very good video I have a question I am in Northwest Indiana we just got a lot of snow and it's still snowing now would I keep the traction off ? I watched another video and the guy said ... why would you want to keep traction off .. he didn't say it to me but on his video so this has got me all confused I have a 2016 Nissan Rogue . Would it matter if I just do what you mentioned and go old school which I am old lol 68 yr and just keep it off even during the winter and snow .Thank you and God Bless.
Hi, No I would leave it on all the time unless you get stuck. Every time you turn on the car the system is ready to go. It helps you drive in snow and ice. If it maxes out when you are stuck then turn it off to try to get loose. But otherwise leave it on all the time. Thanks for watching.
Just push the button again until the light goes out in the dashboard. It should also turn back on automatically when the car is turned all the way off and back on.
The light apper and it’s not dissapeering. Should I be worried about ? Tomorrow I have to make a long trip and drive for 10hours and I’ll be on highway as well. Ty
Well your Traction Control and other safety features like that may not be working. I would have it checked out as soon as you can. But if you have to make your trip just be extra careful if it rains.
@@funnnkyk1dOf course if it is safety sometimes it's worth checking anyways. But if it was me I would let it go and see if it comes back on. It could be an unusual circumstance with water or temperature or something like that. If it does not come back on in a couple days, you should be ok. If it does come back on then you know something is wrong.
Great video 📹 👍 good to know appreciate if i had know that especially on a day like today i would actually give my Honda crv-lx 100% ratings instead of 90% because that's the only thing i should have done to get out of a skid.
My Antara has the TC Button. Sometimes it will display both Traction and Traction off and no matter how many times i press the button they won't go off? So, everytime i brake you get a normal brake pedal then the crunchy bit as TC kicks in. My first question is: Will this have an adverse effect on my braking capability. My second issue is sometimes, usually once i get a bit of speed up the 4WD Light comes on and flashes. But what this also does is stops the TC kicking in?
I have been having trouble with my Jeep Patriot fishtailing at the slowest speeds even. I have relatively new tires and wondering what is going on. I wasn’t sure if my 4WD isn’t working or maybe I need to press this button maybe so the computer will stop me from fishtailing.
Hi, it shouldn’t be letting you fishtail if the system is working. Sounds like there is a malfunction with something in the traction control system. Sometimes having the four-wheel-drive on will turn off some systems. But it shouldn’t fishtail in that case either. Hope that helps.
Well, this is the first, out of five videos, that actually explains what the ESP Off button does. The snow berm analogy was the best example of it's function, and in three minutes. Thanks for this information, especially since I live in Buffalo, NY., this will help the wife and I. Adios.

thank u. nicely discussed. i want to know while driving through busy city street should we need to keep this button off?
No I would leave it on all the time. Only if the system makes the car malfunction should you turn it off.
Great explanation! makes the burnout much easier.
Yes it does! Enjoy, and thanks for subscribing!
Thanks so much I just bought a new juke today and I was never told about what it did . Sir you really helped me 🤗👍🏻
Thanks for commenting. Its a great feature but its nice to be able to turn it off too.

had my dodge nitro for almost a year now and never knew what that button was for, thanks man
Dude, thanks for commenting. I had a license to sell Dodges when those came out. They were so hot! I had a place on the lot for them and the truck would unload 6 or 7 and they would be gone! At the time they were considered to be the retro gangster mobile of the 1920'S like a Phaeton or something the one where the gangsters of Chi-town would ride on the running boards with a Tommy Gun. Retro was hot hot hot then and the Nitro was the bomb! Please subscribe!
Might wanna try reading your book.
John Dough i wouldve done that if i cared about the button, just like you cared enough about my comment to reply
Thank you very much for the info! Winter time in Chicago, I needed to know this.
No problem! Think about Subscribing, I will be doing more winter driving videos. Thanks for the comment.
You the best tks bro.

Thanks dude. Didn't understand how to use this or if I should turn it on or off in my Toyota Rav4.
No Problem. Yeah its best to leave it on, but sometimes you will have to turn it off. It will be rare but its nice to know you can. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks bro,
Had problems in the Netherlands with my stabilitrak control and the engine powered down.

Great! been trying to find a detailed explanation of that button. I just upgraded and bought me an 16 Charger and was wondering. Good looking out with this video 👍
Thx
Thanks, enjoy your new ride. Those look great! I know this video keeps growing and growing!
Thank you so much.
Boy I don't know on that one. Are you taking it to a GM dealer for the Advance Trac?
@@BenLindseyKiaLove i took it to my mechanic. I don't have money to take to an actual dealer. It's just braking itself. Cut off. Takes me an hour to get home when should take me thirty minutes. Im driving me back up car
thanks for the explanation man 👌 you're the best
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for that..
Now I know that I'll be able to chirp around corners now.. knowing that my accelerator won't bog down in first.
Exactly. Free again! Thanks for the comment man.
Very helpful since my car did not come with a manual, thanks!

How do you reset the ESC Off light? We just changed our alternator. Everything is golden but the ESC Off light is showing on the dash; pressing the button does nothing. New TIPM about a year a year ago. Battery is charging golden. Suggestions?
I'm not sure. They may have to reset some codes at the dealer or mechanics...
@@janiekl1956 Ya now you have to be wealthy to have a horse!! Yes when you start having a bunch of electrical problems it is probably time to move on. They are so mysterious it takes a technician hours and hors to diagnose and fix it. So it becomes too expensive pretty quick at $100/hr +. Start car shopping! You could trade it in to recuop some of that tranny money. Somebody would part it out in wholesale ...Thanks for the question.

So there you have it. $7,300 later in a year's time IT APPEARS TO BE RUNNING CORRECTLY!! We hope to be able to drive it for another 5-10 years without any further issues...we're now past the point of diminishing returns. As we researched the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan the last 3 months the electronic issues is the number one complaint! We inherited the van from my in-laws in 2019 so the $7300 isn't so bad, considering.
Thank you for your input.
@@janiekl1956 Well you're in it for the long haul now. But considering car prices these days sounds like you are actually doing ok!!
Thank you 👍
Great video! Thanx Ben!!! :)
@@BenLindseyKiaLove from Uganda, East Africa. Right bang in the middle of the earth, at the Equator 😎
@@BlackRootsAcademyOfSoul Thanks for watching from all the way over there. You shouldn't have to use this in any snow!
@@BenLindseyKiaLove thank you Ben now I understand lol. God Bless you.
Thanks for the info
No problem 👍

Thanks, great explanation.

how do u turn it back on?
Just push the button again until the light goes out in the dashboard. It should also turn back on automatically when the car is turned all the way off and back on.

Thank you! Thats my most popular video. Thanks for watching.
I did my trip.. i drove aprox 700 km today. The light has dissapeer by its on. Should I still check it?
@@funnnkyk1dOf course if it is safety sometimes it's worth checking anyways. But if it was me I would let it go and see if it comes back on. It could be an unusual circumstance with water or temperature or something like that. If it does not come back on in a couple days, you should be ok. If it does come back on then you know something is wrong.
Thank you so much !! Have a good day !! And thank you again for all the informations !!
Great video 📹 👍 good to know appreciate if i had know that especially on a day like today i would actually give my Honda crv-lx 100% ratings instead of 90% because that's the only thing i should have done to get out of a skid.
Glad it helped! Its snow season for sure.
Sorry it took me so long to answer. There is definitely something wrong there. Hope you got it fixed.
Hope that helps.
stay focused bro !
I know! I can't redo it now though! Thanks man.
