  • 🛑Stop focusing on these drills when working on your putting!
    It might be hard to find time to practice your golf game, so the last thing you want to do with your time is waste it on drills that don't give you the most significant return on your time.
    In this episode of Fix My Fault, our friend Kevin Weeks chats with Nick Clearwater on common putting myths that get many golfers working on putting drills that don't provide the most return on their time when it comes to improving their game.

    Really good stuff here. I'm going to try the dots method to get my eyes set up properly. Currently, I use the line on the ball to line up my putt from behind the ball. However, once I take my stance over the ball, the line on the ball always looks like it's lined up way to the left of my intended line. I haven't been able to straighten that out yet. You've given me the tools to try it with the dots method. Thanks!

    "Don't practice within 4 feet, you're gonna make those most of the time."
    MMMMMMM if only my scorecard said the same thing. Not saying that those aren't much easier putts, but I am saying that they're worth spending a little time on.

      The data is pretty crazy on a mass level that inside 4ft it's rarely missed but tracking your stats is key. The data typically shows that most golfers should be working more on their speed control from 30-40ft and getting more than 90% inside 4ft rather than working on putts inside 4ft because they already make 93% of those. Most golfers are losing more strokes from the lag than inside 4ft.

    I spent like two years painstakingly trying to correct my slight out to in putting stroke, unsuccessfully. I started putting so much better when I just forgot about my path and focused on hitting solid putts. Thanks for confirming my thoughts!

    For me, practicing ( and holing) my short putting before going out to play helps my confidence massively

      That is true. For a pre-round warm-up, dialing in speed control from 30-35 feet and then make a couple 3 footers for confidence is a great way to warm-up

    I love how we compare ourselves to tour player when they're playing on the toughest courses in the world. Here I'm 3 putting at my local muni course :O

    myth 4 : the putter brand and style used by tour players to win last weeks tournament is best the one to buy to improve your game.
    myth 5 : you should buy a new putter every year or when a new model is released, Odessay have re released 2 ball after 20 years
    myth 6: a $500 putter holes 5 x more putts than a $100 putter.
    myth 7 old style 8802 blade putters have a small sweet spot and are no good for players to use.

    I really good stuff. I wish Kevin would have talked about the pros and cons of a line on the ball and how that figures into proper alignment at set up

      We find it to be very helpful if you get your eyes in the right spot. Otherwise the line always looks off

      That is exactly the issue I have with the line on the ball. So how does one get the line on the ball to look aligned with what we see ?

      @@chrisstevens2593 Do it just like he was saying…. Move around until your setup agrees with what you saw from behind the ball. I actually have to open up my feet a little to make it look right. It will be different for everyone. Play around with setup. You’ll figure it out.

    best way for me to warm up before i play and a good practice routine in general is 4 balls 3 footers on opposite sides of the hole, 6 footers, then drop a ball at 25 ft 30 ft 35 ft and 40 ft, then go back and knock in some 3 footers and possibly some 6 footers again but always end on 3 footers. takes about 10 to 15 minutes depending on how fast i want to do it

    I have to try that exercise with the line and the dots.

    I like the looking at the hole from 4feet and closer when putting, rather than looking at the ball. BUT if there is a R2L break then i am doomed looking at the hole or ball. it does my shriveled lobotomized deteriorated synapses brain in and some! Yes even if i pick a spot on the correct path. Just a heads up i pick out a single blade of grass to aim at with close putts.

    Are you suggesting to putt slightly outside in as is shown in the beginning of the video? Gonna go back over this and study the 5 dot drill.

    • @GOLFTECLessonsFittings
      @GOLFTECLessonsFittings  2 роки тому

      Hey Dan, no that's not what we are suggesting, we were simply showing that path as little impact on starting direction compared to face aim

  • @JaredDanfordGolf

    Can you explain the 5 dots more. I tested 3 players and they see “straight” nothing offset? Is there a way that you focus on the ball. Maybe I’m missing something. Thanks.

    • @GOLFTECLessonsFittings
      @GOLFTECLessonsFittings  2 роки тому

      So when you put the 5 dots down and they look down the dots and out to a distance target say 12ft away they all felt as if those dots were pointing straight at that target?

    • @JaredDanfordGolf
      @JaredDanfordGolf 2 роки тому

      Yes. No offset, just straight.

    Advertisements all seemed to interrupt the video at exactly the wrong moment and cut off your major points. Google should do a better job of putting ads in better spots.

    Inside 4 feet is where the greatest putters spend an absurd amount of time. Just ask mickelson and his 100 3 footers ina row

  • @TomosWilliams96
    @TomosWilliams96 2 роки тому +3

    I don't agree with not praticing 4ft putts in a circle with different breaks, most golfers don't sink those consistently, all good two putting from 20ft but 2 putting from 4ft is more common

    • @GOLFTECLessonsFittings
      @GOLFTECLessonsFittings  2 роки тому

      3-putting inside 30ft is a key stat to track. Working on speed control around that 30ft mark and then working on 4-15 foot putts would be the best use of time for the majority of golfers.
