For me wearing a hoodie was a way to have a security blanket if that makes any sense I didn't feel great about my body so that was my main reason for for wearing a hoodie even in the hottest weather. everyone's different and some might just like hoodies and others might need that extra protection it might be all in the head but at the time it was really important for me. Thankfully as I grew up I got out of that habit and started getting more confident about my body.

Heat is the worst for pots, and squatting would definitely set it off. Make sure you either have a salty breakfast (potatoes cover the taste of salt well so you can pack more in) or do salt tabs ( I like salt stick chewables) to help your body retain the fluids that you drink during the day!

@Amber p yes POTS is lifelong and changing positions quickly can cause passing out. Going from laying or sitting to standing up quick could definitely cause her to pass out which is what she said they were doing (squat form).

For Hallie I don't know if she has one I haven't noticed if she does have one but a fitbit or apple watch might be something you want to look into just so if she passes out again since they can monitor stuff like heart rate, oxygen levels, you can probably find one that monitors blood pressure as well it might help if there is a problem and its something sudden that will fix itself quickly that caused her to pass out I have a Ventricular Septal Defect which means that I have a small gap in my ventrical that allows un oxygenated blood to get to the oxygenated blood and am constantly worried about stressing my heart out when exercising so I use my fitbit to assure myself its okay I also have anxiety so it helps me when I am anxious to remind myself everything is okay and it can also be a good thing for depression just a suggestion that might.

as far as Aurora and any girls wanting a hoodie, try to introduce her to cardigans, they’ve been a lifesaver as a hoodie addict in fl! I can find some that are super thin to beat the heat and still have the comfort. the boys could try an open button up, a flannel pattern or solid color button up is easy to find thin as well.
just make sure that they can cover their front fully with the sides or length and I’ve found that it works great.

I’m from northern Ny, across the River from Canada, so I grew up wearing really warm clothes and often get cold bc I have hashimotos and I’m on a blood thinner and they both make you cold and live in TN for 1.5 yrs now and in middle school I lived in SC, like 6.5 yrs ago, and so I love hoodies and layers so I can usually be found in jeans, tanks or t shirts, with like a cardigan or flannel. My two cents worth:Buy lots of banana shirts! Let Aurora wear them all she wants. It’s good enough for Mark Zukerberg . Offer her a choice but let one of them always be a banana shirt. Sometimes kids are mono eaters or mono dressers because of all the other things in their lives that are changing. Aurora has had several large life changes in the past year: Surgery for her tongue tie, moving to a city, new siblings and now school. It won’t hurt a thing if her clothing style doesn’t change.
When she is ready for a new choice, she will let you know.
You may (or may not) be concerned about what the teacher will think. Just tell her about it. Teachers get that kind of thing.

As a parent with children who have sensory issues, while I agree to an extent that it is harmless to allow Aurora to wear her banana shirt every day for security. I also know that as parents we are responsible for preparing our kids to live in the real world. In the real world other kids and their parents don't care if you have anxiety or adhd or autism they are cruel and they will judge you if you wear the same thing over and over. Clean or not. I too have adhd and anxiety believe me it doesn't do a child any favors to sugar coat the world for them. The world won't change for you so if you want to fit into the world you have to adjust to societies " norm" as much as possible. As I've always taught my kids , you can't control anyone's actions except your own. You can't change anyone's opinion, all you can do is decide who YOU want to be and how YOU are going to treat people, but if you want to fit in with main stream society you will have to follow socially acceptable habits.

When my kids were little it would take forever for them to pick out clothes. So, I would choose 2 outfits that were appropriate for school and weather and then let the choose between the 2. They were happy because they felt as if they were making the choice. It got harder to do that as they got older but worked up until about 3rd grade. It may help with Aurora.

Or if you need more time for them to pick on Sunday pick outfits for every day of the week and put them in like a labeled basket for the day or in a special drawer system or something but limit her options for the days of the week to ones that are appropriate for the weather as well

My little girl went through a phase of having selective mutism (she just turned 3) and we switched nurseries after being off for so long isolating with the pandemic, she’s been there just over 6 months now and although doesn’t use her words with most the teachers, there’s a select view who have really got to know her and worked with her whilst she’s not been verbally communicating. It’s so hard as a parent not to worry but the teachers we’ve come across are all amazing, and even with no verbal communication at nursery we hear all about her friends that she’s made at home ❤️

Yes! Especially some of the students I have worked with that have histories of trauma. It is like a safety shell that they can pull themselves into. They aren't literally exposed or emotionally as exposed if they can hide in a in a hoodie. At least that's what I have found with the teenagers I've worked with in the school district with trauma in their history. Some of those teenagers have issues with being cutters and it was real easy for them to hide those marks under. Made it very very difficult to notice that they were doing that behavior sometimes. I am not at all suggesting that your teenager is doing that, but it is something that I have noticed. I live in Texas and it is blistering hot here too, although you do have us beat this summer for triple digit numbers being as high as yours have. Aurora is just trying to probably one copy that person in your family, and also it may be a sensory issue. If her hoodie is super super soft on the inside it may be that that's a sensory issue that she is seeking. Do you have a sensory brush that you use on her at all? I've had three special needs kids of my own and work with them on a regular basis. It's just a gift God gave me after all of the things that he has given me I would say that my love for special needs children is one of the most special things He has given me. I haven't finished watching the video I'm only 7 and 1/2 minutes in, but I wanted to answer your question before I forgot!

Aurora is going to do great! I'm a preschool teacher of 25 years and I've had children with special needs in my class many times. She'll grow so much in a short amount of time. In a few months she'll have learned a lot and in 6 mos she'll be a different kid. Just show her you're excited for her and let her know what a smart big girl she is.

I always wore a hoodie to school, from about 12 or 13 years old onwards. As my anxiety got worse, my hoodie became my security blanket. My last couple of years at school, we weren't allowed to wear hoodie's, but I still took it with me as it helped calm me down to mess with the sleeves, the hood or the strings on it. I also constantly wore long sleeve tops under my short sleeve tops, because I could then pull the sleeves down over my hands (I even cut holes into the sleeves of my tops to put my thumbs through).

Also know that there will be plateaus where you won't see major improvements for a time. (You most likely know all this.)

Hearing you talk about your little girl not abel to communicate effectively with her peers hits home. My little girl is 6 now and has been in school for 2 years. She has Downsyndroom. When she went her first day she was not able to say her name or tel anyone she needed any thing. She is in a normal school so nobody new any signs. I was worried she was gonna the wird kid. Nothing was more ungrounded. Within a week the kids new her signs, the teachers new how to reed her and now she has al lot of friends. When she has a sub for a day the kids in her class translate and correct the teacher on things when she needs to do it al little different for her.

I have POTS and just wanted to mention that Liquid IV is a fairly tolerable way to take in the sodium that’s needed. They gave me a discount on my bulk buys of the product when I reached out to them. Take good care of yourself, Hallie! We love you.
None of those tests that the urgent care did will pick up POTS. And there’s lots of medical practitioners that don’t really have experience with POTS. That may be why the urgent care was acting weird.
Sodium sodium sodium and water water water! If you don’t have a specialist, I recommend finding one. There are medications that help with symptoms and have made me more comfortable.

Once we switched no more cracked screens. My other daughter even accidentally dropped her ipad (in the otterbox case) in the snow and did not realize it for several hours. Other than brushing the snow off it was perfectly fine thanks to the taps that protect the electronical openings.
