Hate these kinds of drama where the Ml and Fl are constantly hiding their real identities and reveal it only in the ending part of the show. It's just like watching cat and mouse game with each of them chasing after their own tails. What's so wrong about being honest with each other right from the beginning. This hiding of identities make their characters seem snicky and untrustworthy.
Kudos to Bai Fangwen, a very good attitude and good acting. From the bottom of the heart, this is the first story where there is ground to the earth truth. No planning, plotting, and not even a single vulgar scene. Wow, this drama can be watched with the whole family from old to young. I don't know what to say. Thank you, thank you all, for this drama. It's really impressive how the Su family can continuously try to convince themselves that Shen Chi is a liar and a fraud instead of accepting that they made a huge mistake and has lost something truly irreplaceable. For being rich businessmen, a lot of these people are way too quick to judge and hardly do any research on Shen Chi. They only know that he was Su family's son-in-law and assume he can't have another identity.
They were prejudiced against him because they thought he was just a poor delivery boy who was useless to them despite the fact that they were just an ordinary family 5 years ago. The family was obviously greedy, vain and ambitious but had bad judgement. They blindly followed everything the other guy said thinking he would lead them to glory. As for the businessmen, he was very private about his life and nobody other than his people knew who he was. But I guess it had to happen that way because qin and his two friends who were leading them against shen chi came there to suppress Miss Jiang and her company. Based on how the other businessmen acted they would have likely supported those three so needless to say there would have been conflict regardless. Those businessmen were very arrogant and had bad character so they needed to be humbled.
I mean how ridiculous it is.. Do u think merely a deluveryman would dare to impersonate someone as big n didnt feel scared of being capture.. There must be a reson why he has all that confidence..
It is actually pretty close to RL (except far more long winded). People do love to hold onto their narrative about others, even in the face of evidence to the contrary. I've seen this repeatedly. It's actually scary (and at times amusing) how many of these tropes have played out in my own life.

There is no real twist in the movie though. We, the audience, know who he is around 10 minutes in when we meet Chu Ming. And the rest is him trying to tell the arrogant in-laws and his ex-wife who he is. I mean, it becomes so repetitive that it borders on insanity. At one point, he is shown to have the LEADER of the business world in that part of the country bow to him. And they still think he can be bossed around. That is the point where they should just silently excuse themselves. I know it is part of the drama, but they could have written out the SU family about half way through and left the rest to that other guy that ultimately had his whole family destroyed. As for the banquet at the end, that was unnecessary. Everyone of importance know who he is at that point. It would have been a much better finish to allow him to go on stage, make his speech, take Ms Jiang, and go home. That would have been a much better ending instead of more whining from his ex-wife and her family.
Whoever wrote this script is genius.. Love every word of it. My only complain is that NOT ENOUGH.. i want this story in much longer episode..At 4 more hours. The main couple is full of charisma.. N looking forward to see more of them.

My take away is that you shouldn’t marry for anything other than love. If you’re sure of that, you wouldn’t worry about trivial matters like money and social status. And whoever did the subtitles did a really great job. Rare in Chinese films. Thoroughly enjoyed it that I didn’t realize I finished this over 2h movie. Keep them coming!
Well I mean we didn't see how the relationship with shen chi and Ms. Su started so maybe they did marry out of love but as time went along she started to become more materialistic. I think she did love him to some extent even after the divorce since she got jealous after seeing him with Miss Jiang and learning they got married or that could just be that her ego was wounded that after divorcing him he almost immediately married someone who was superior to her in pretty much every aspect. She didn't feel comfortable getting closer to the other guy after the divorce so who knows. But in any event whatever love she had for him was no match for her ego and ambition. She never truly respected or trusted him and these two things are just as important as love in any relationship but she believed everything the other guy said without question. She didn't believe in him or take anything he said seriously so it's kinda ridiculous that she had the audacity to ask him why he never told her in the ending.

Alone. Then contrast that with the worst thing her husband did to her. I can confidently say she did not have any love and respect for her husband. You are correct. She didn't believe in him and in what he said. Makes anyone wonder what she would have seen in him to marry him in the first place. If it wasn't for money, how could this be love? There is a saying around here about marriage - it isn't something you put in your mouth and spit out if it's too hot.

This drama is very satisfying. The dialogue was dragging a bit and the scenarios were repetitive but the reward was really good.

Well I mean we didn't see how the relationship with shen chi and Ms. Su started so maybe they did marry out of love but as time went along she started to become more materialistic.
I think she did love him to some extent even after the divorce since she got jealous after seeing him with Miss Jiang and learning they got married or that could just be that her ego was wounded that after divorcing him he almost immediately married someone who was superior to her in pretty much every aspect. She didn't feel comfortable getting closer to the other guy after the divorce so who knows. But in any event whatever love she had for him was no match for her ego and ambition. She never truly respected or trusted him and these two things are just as important as love in any relationship but she believed everything the other guy said without question. She didn't believe in him or take anything he said seriously so it's kinda ridiculous that she had the audacity to ask him why he never told her in the ending.

Also, when she was introduced in the film, we see that she was with another man. In a hotel room. Alone. Then contrast that with the worst thing her husband did to her. I can confidently say she did not have any love and respect for her husband.
You are correct. She didn't believe in him and in what he said. Makes anyone wonder what she would have seen in him to marry him in the first place. If it wasn't for money, how could this be love? There is a saying around here about marriage - it isn't something you put in your mouth and spit out if it's too hot.
@@virtualbrady Well I wouldn't say that she married him for money because remember she and her family firmly believed that he was just a delivery boy who was incompetent and couldn't help them rise. 5 years before the start of the series they were just an ordinary family that only recently entered the upper class. It would be more accurate to say that they got divorced because of money. The main reason the family hated him was because they thought he was holding her back and if they weren't married she could marry some rich husband who could help them grow.
@@virtualbrady The show didn't actually confirm that anything was going on with Miss Su and the other guy but she seemingly believed that shen chi was having an affair with Miss Jiang and because of that connection he had influence that made people respect him. So it's kinda telling if she really did think that he would have an affair while married to her especially since she got defensive when shen chi had his suspicions.

Even if no one else saw it to confirm it, being caught in a very questionable scenario is damning in itself. Perish the thought of sowing seeds of doubt in your beloved's mind.

The ML, with his identity, is so charismatic - but he needs to stop being so punctual and entering all the scenes too early. LOL. The reactions of those arrogant fools are priceless. Shows that he has really got wise desicions even picking a partner...the novel is already in 6080 chapter but he hadnt reveal his true identity ti his wife yet...

Because she only see him as useless husband that has no ability and doesn’t believe him. She’s annoying wife,so selfish and ambitious..who wants wealth and fame. She repeatedly saw her husband identify and yet look down on him.
I like the role of the ML here where he is humble even when he was repeatedly humiliated by Su family including his wife and yet he yields and exercise self control. I noticed that in real life those are real wealthy people doesn’t brag about their identity unlike those trying hard to be rich,like Su family who always look down on people
