Bringing all the ingredients of raghas in brief spells is, no doubt, a special talence of Charulatha Mani acquired due to 'poorva punniyam' coupled with God's gift! Hats off to this gifted musician.
Dear Charulatha Madam,Your isai payanam in all ragas travel beautifully.your voice is superb.Long live. Especially Vasantha is excellent .Could you sing raga Valaji¬atoon for Katrinile varum Geetham.I belong to Thiruvaiyaru and now residing at chennai.Namaskarams. Vijayslakshmi

Ms. Charulatha, you are higly talented. In my 5decades of a music rasikan, i didnot come across such clinical talent. Your knowdge is next ony to dr. Ramanathan. Please do not waste it by singing low class kuthu pattu. Please singg melodies. Youngsters do love melody. One day you wiill be suseela, janaki.chitra. never ever miss karnatic music. You mesmerised me with your isai payanam. What great joy. You can establish by avoiding kuthu pattu, they are vulgar not at all to your sstandard. Pl.try, this is my suggestion. After all you are young- . V. S. Sivaraman, . Hyderabad
Dear Charulatha, I have a doubt regarding a particular song, Pothi Vacha Malliga Mottu, from the film Manvaasanai. Is that song in Hindolam or Suddha Dhanyasi ? , and how can one differentiate between the two ragas as they sound very similar.
I like the whole of Isai Payanam series - great talent: Ms. Mani; Thanks madam for the easily understandable technical specifications of the various raagams - very useful for interested (but untalented) souls such as myself. PS: 1:16 to 1:28 sounds like Hamsanandhi/Sohoni - are the raagams related? Any feedback will be welcome, thanks in advance.
In the arohana phase, vasantha goes like this : sa-ma-ga-ma-da-ni-sa hamsanandi goes like this: sa-ri-ga-ma-da-ni-sa Both the raga's have the same notes in the avarahona phase : S N D M G R S Ma is a crucial note in vasantha raga, you slightly modify by replacing the first ma in the avarohana with rishabam, you have hamsanandi.. vasantha can thus harmoniously blend with hamsanandhi.. its interesting you found that melodic difference.. even a slight change in a note can cause a change in the rasa nishpaththi/flow of rasa .. and that i guess happened to you..
hi chaulatha .... i find lot of similarities between vasnata and hamsanandi...whats the difference between the two ?? i love your videos....very informative...
Hello sir/ madam, Sorry i',m not qualified to answer, yet trying to. Sorry for my flaws, kindly verify with someone too: in Ragam Vasanta, the SMGM (zig-zag pattern) can be noticed whereas Hamsanandi is SRGM. There would be other Ragalakshanas distinctive to each of them too and composers would have used signatures of the respective Ragams in their compositions. Thank you.
Hi Charulatha.. I see a lot of similarities between vasantha and mayamalavagaulai and think vasantha is a janyam of this main melakartha. .. Why do you say is it a janyam of suryakantham ? Can you please help understand the difference? Thanks you .. I love your videos.. Jaisree
Vasantha is a janyam of 17th Mela suryakantham.. and not a janyam of Mayamalavagaula. Vasantha ragam takes chathusruthi dhaivatham (Dha2) which is derived from suryakantham. Whereas in Mayamalavagaula it's suddha dhaivatham (Dha1). Hope the answer is useful!
Raja has taken this ragam to the next level with his andhi mazhai pozigirathu...lot of love for Vasantha and raja
Maankanden Maankanden song from film raajarishi is a delightful composition in vasantha ragam. Raja sir stands out
