EXCEL TRICK - Select large data quickly in columns & rows WITHOUT click & drag or unwanted cells

- A really fast way to select huge runs of data in columns or rows quickly without picking up unwanted cells. Way faster than click-n-drag selecting and more targeted than selecting the whole spreadsheet's column or row.
**UPDATE - Additional Info** If your data range selection with this trick does hit a blank cell and stops, you can just tap the direction arrow a couple times to get past it, then take your fingers off the keys and hit the three button combo again to resume selection to the bottom of the data or the next blank cell.
shift + Ctrl and down arrow works.
thank you!
Thanksssssss a lotttttttttttttttt
This what worked with me.
the video instruction did not work !
Thanks for posting it
Thank you 🌸🌹❤️
You saved me!!!!
If there is a blank cell selection stops there
Thanks Pete...saved me buckets of time, not to say sore fingers!
I use ctr shift arrow
This worked for me too!
thank you!
I don’t see the END on my laptop😢
Neither did I at first. Try looking on the top row, far right of your screen. On my laptop it’s the very last key!
Ur concise info is worth to watch.
exactly what i searched for thank you
Thank you so much… I had a large large file it had 612k txns 😢 So I used that idea of leaving one row blank and was able to copy the data in three segments 200k each and created three separate files 😊 Tysm
This helped me today. Thank you very much for videos like this.
If you come to a gap in your data, keep holding shift, let go of end, arrow key past the gap, then end+arrow again.
The only key you have to hold is shift. You can press and release end then press an arrow.
There's also shift+ctrl+end to select all rows and columns from the current cell to the end of the data.
Thanks for the extra tips. I noticed also you can release the keys, leave your selection highlighted, and then hit shift+end+(different arrow key) and continue the block selection in a different direction.
Saved me a lot of frustration! Thank you!
Thats one headache permanently cured 👍
My Shift+end+down highlights all columns with data, not just the one I ighlighted.
New update guys just hit button: "SHIFT+CTRL THEN DOWN" Your welcome :)

Does anyone know why when you click Shift + Control down on the arrows that some of the data will disappear on the way down or up?
Mine is not selecting the whole data. Its goes one at a time still
What about selecting all rows in multiple, but non-consecutive columns? Is there a way to do that?
How to select different columns that are not side by side simultaneously? e.g. column A, C & E.
Hold down Ctrl and left-click the top of each column, although this will select the entire column, not just the data in the column.
Thank you so much!
Assuming my column A has a whole year spread out in 15min intervals, meaning for example one day has like around 100 lines, and a month 3000 lines roughly.
How do I find out where one month starts and ends, and then mark the data of the month to lets say make a graph (it's got 3 whole columns of data, A: date, B: minute, C: Value for graph)
Thanks so much for this
Is there a way to highlight only some cells? I had to split a 15,000-line Excel file into 7 and then transfer those to a new tab. Highlighting 2225 lines at a time was not fun.
If you put a blank row between the sections you need to split of your larger spreadsheet and then use the select trick in this video you can batch select the data between the blank rows.
if values are missing, in the row, how can I select the entire coloumn fast?
Lots of of missing cells might make it faster to just select the whole column rom the top (click the column cell (A, B, etc.), but if you've just got some random missing cells here and there you can just tap the direction arrow a couple times to get past it, then take your fingers off the keys and hit the three button combo again to resume selection to the bottom of the data or the next blank cell.
thank you so much love you
Thanks, that was helpful
Hello Wheelie, can you please help as i don't know what did i selected and i can't use "Ctrl+Shift+Arrow up/Down". What shoul i do?
Thank you!!!
Dude yu saved my time
Thank you
Thanks!
Hey thank you very much for this trick, I do need help with the same thing but different way.
Since I have calculated data in one master sheet taking results from 2 sheets how do I implement this, because when I do it since there's no data on that master since it's going to be populated when I drag with the results from the two sheets and it stops at 100k+ rows and I need it to stop where the other two sheets data end which I have no clue how to do it?
THANK YOU SIR
Thank you.
Thank you Sir
Thanks bro!
LOVE IT
Thanks brother

AMAZING!
thanks that solved my problem
thanks
is there a formula that can do this?
how to use it in mac? what is the shortcut
shift+control+arrow you need
many many thank you boss
If I have like 30000 value and I want to copy only the data from 100 to 1000 without dragging, what should I do?
Just off the top of my head I would insert a blank row between 99 and 100 and then another between 1000 and 1001 and then do the select trick. (After you copied the data you want you could just go back and delete the blank lines.) There's probably a better way, but that's just what popped into my head as this select feature halts on a blank. You probably don't even need a blank row between 99 and 100, just highlight row 100 and then hit Ctrl - END - Down arrow and it should drop right to line 1000 (assuming you have a blank line at 1001.)
Thanks...😊😊😊
Hello, how to select a specific amount of data, for example in an excel sheet with large amount of data..i need to select like 40 rows only?
Select the first row you want by left clicking the row number, scroll down as many rows as you need, hold Shift and left click the last row number you want. This should select all the rows between your first and last selection.
@@WheeliePete hello, thanks..but if i want to skip manually selecting..cause the number of rows to be selected might not always be counted..for example as from row 37 i need to select only 23 more rows..is there any shortcut to designate the specific number of rows we are to choose?
Thak you very much
when dealing with very large files in excel do you have a way to keep the computer from freezing up?
I haven't had a problem with extremely large spreadsheets in quite a while. In earlier versions I think Excel only supported up to 65,536 rows, but now with newer versions it'll support 1,048,576 rows x 16,384 columns. I haven't had a problem with large spread sheets crashing my systems though. I wonder if you've got an available memory issue with not enough RAM? Usually the system will tell you if you're running up against a memory limit though...
Thanks sir
Thanks Bro👍🏻
what if my down+arrow ruined
Thanks man
you just have to press end once, not hold it down
yes
How to copy 10 rows data and paste in 10000 rows without dragging
❤
respect
Try CTRL + SPACE
That selects to the bottom of the spread sheet, not the bottom of the data run.
How to select the entire column containing blank values too
If your data range selection hits a blank cell and stops, you can just tap the direction arrow a couple times to get past it, then take your fingers off the keys and hit the three button combo again to resume selection to the bottom of the data or the next blank cell. I don't know a way to force selection from top to bottom that would contain blank cells in between. Maybe someone else will chime in if there's a way to do that.
@@WheeliePete yeah... Thank you so much for the reply...
Btw I got the answer...
Let's say column C contains the data along with blank cells where C1 is the column heading. So, in the Name Box type C2:C20000 (i.e; any arbitrary number for 2nd value) then press the ctrl+shift+up arrow
In this way, we will have the column selected with blank cells too
Thank you!
