The thing about the smaller stone though, is that it has purple as the dominant color, which makes it much more rare. I think people would pay much more for that little guy, based on the color alone. I love it--I think it's absolutely stunning.
I also really like the small Stone. I would give it a brightness of “ mysterious”. Makes you appreciate each Stone for being unique. Each stone has its own beauty which calls to each person differently.
I absolutely LOVE that tiny stone!!!! I know it's far from perfect, but I would buy it in a heartbeat. I think what I love most about it is its imperfection.
That was a nice coupla stones. That 2nd stone looked beautiful to me even before you rubbed it. I like the way the colour bar blended with the potch. I’ve seen petrified wood with opal like that & fell in love instantly.
I know it’s not what you are hoping for, but I LOVE the first one you cut. My ideal opal would be a black opal with a dark purple/blue broad flash with a brightness of 1-2... it’s like a mystery that whispers to you when you catch it at the right angle. 😍
Justin. You are hilarious! You kept your wits about you and still cut the best little stone possible proving yet again that some good can come out of a bad situation.
Always a pleasure to see your craftsmanship, Justin. There’s just something about seeing a skilled artisan making something with their hands that is really sublime. Nice editing as well.
That's still a nice little stone. I doubt it will stay on your shelves for long. The anticipation of the cutting of opal is enough to keep me watching. I'm sorry that little one didn't work out, but the website video for that bigger one came to me before you cutting it here. It's gorgeous! Keep cutting!
Just ordered a Cab King 6" cutting machine, it's been a long wait saving up the funds for it but it's been a dream of mine for as long as I remember. Great video Justin, I do like seeing the less than stellar stones cuts as well cos it gives a more realistic idea what to expect, though it must be heartbreaking.
I have a cabking, too. It has been wonderful working with my machine.I have tweaked it a little-putting a slit in a shortened pool noodle for a handrest. The slanted rim wasn't comfortable for me!
Nice to watch you work with a really small piece. I think some people are afraid to work with such small pieces. Shows how many years of experience you have.
I love that dark crystal. What I like most about your channel is your honesty. You show the disappointments as well as the highs. I think it gives people a realistic idea of how difficult cutting these gems can be. How natural materials can be so hard to work with. Also how rewarding it is when things go right! Thanks for sharing!
Sitting down and watching you do your work, it's like having a wonderful break with a good friend. Just listening to your down to earth comments and especially your emotions. Some of the other channels are like tapioca, vanilla, there is no reaction. Its all technical. If anyone loves their work, they have to get excited about the great stone or the piece of rubbish. Your channel convenes so much comfort. Thank you.
Im starting to learn why Justin gets so excited, and flosses and does the sprinkler etc. Its a roller coaster of emotions this opal cutting! Nevertheless, I am sure we will be seeing Justin wooping it up flossin and celebrating a huge beautiful win in a stone soon. They were both lovely stones today, the first showing you never know what you get. Once again many many thanks for another great video, chin up Justin, a big bright stone is on its way for you, I just feel it.
Opals are like an old Western Movie. You catch yourself wondering whose about to get a flaming arrow in the chest! (or will the sand go all the way through and ruin the stone)
I’m impressed you guys have U.S. dimes in a Australia Too bad. Honestly I’m a fan also of emeralds and the uniqueness of each garden they have with their inclusions. I find that first one lovely not a lot of fire but has its own secret garden. Thanks for the vid
I feel listened too . ty. I like stone number one personally. I think the purple/blue looks amazing and i like the contrast of the dark cab with that level of color. Its...almost eligantly understated.
I just learned about opal and I thought it was an amazing stone. i saw it in a shop where the shop owner he gave me a small bag with some that could not grind. When I first saw it, it looked like something was coming from space. It's the most beautiful stone I've ever seen. Black opal Direct
I was waiting for him to drop one in that amazing coffee;)...the new wheels make for a beautiful smooth cut, Its just hypnotic watching the stones form. Thank you for sharing😊
Doubt it, the wheels are better suited to grind hard surfaces, you can see him touch the wheels from time to time, i guess you would really have to apply pressure to do any damage to your finger.
😂I thought it might be wishful on that tiny stone to bring a grand, I think it's amazing that you can get that much for a half karat stone. Too bad the brightness wasn't quite there. Thanks for your vids!!
love watching your vids in the morning with a cup of coffee right before going out to feed the horses and take the sheep out of the corral to their grazing pasture. seeing the beautiful stones brights up my day a lot more. :)
I love them BOTH!!!!! That little one would be perfect as a ring!! My mentor taught me to love even the so called "ugly stones" so I naturally navigate towards the ones that beg for a home verses the "perfect" ones.......just me being different I guess! : ) I think the little one is adorable : )
I agree whole-heartedly with your assessment Justin. Stones that have hybrid pattern ought to consider that in the brightness scoring, if not for eye appeal then for the fact that lapses in flash on the face of the opal in any viewing angle will result in less light transfer/visibility of color. Under no circumstance will a customer ever be dissapointed by an inclusion, scar, or streak of 5/5 color, but if it's just a little part of the stone then it only contributes, not defines. Spot on call with the 3.5/5
I really enjoy watching you grind and polish opals. One of these days I will get into some of mine, for the mean time I will be sticking to my local material. I will send you an email with some of work they don't sell for as much as your beautiful opals but I very much enjoy my time spent at the wheels. Cheers.
Absolutely love your artisanship! Something that I am running into in my quest to by rough opal are dealers/miners/people splitting or cutting the nobby into 2 pieces (To check color and if it goes dark I know).. is this common? Do you pay extra to get unmessed with nobbies? That increases your "risk" and the gamble part? I am just learning it all but I find myself getting frustrated by sellers damaging the nobby... Appreciate everything...
Again another great video have wacth them all so far and over 10 year of them all with in last absolutely great thank have been learning alot thank you 👍👍
Thanks for sharing a small "rock" cutting. That's what I have to practice with right now, so good to see it can be done. I might have to buy some ACME stickum though to keep from dropping...or use a dop stick! Always fun to see the reveal. Kinda like fishing. Sometimes you think it's a big one on the other end then when it comes to the surface and see it's a little one, it's a letdown. But at least the opal can't swallow the hook and add insult to injury! Looks like there is a bidding war a few posts down with the small opal!
Try using the Dob stick to begin with when it comes to such small stones. I feel like you'll have more leverage to work with. Doesn't hurt to try with that technique. You'll be applying less pressure, as compared with your fingers considering the fact that you're needing more of it to grasp onto it towards the grind wheel. I feel like you'll get more of a yield applying this technique.
You sir have given me opal fever! Watch your show every evening after a long days work! Great work , master of your trade and to top it all your funny as fcuk lol
Hi Justin, thanks for giving us that extra content with the second stone. I thought the smaller stone was quite amazing with it's flashes of violet(not the green blue as expected) I would definitely buy the smaller one and probably wouldn't like it as much with just a blue and green. beautiful stones thanks for the vids.
Hey, thank you , for going that extra step , and having a great. Cup ! Loving the great company and all around favourites (, you. ) Your skills, and coffoe, aww that’s sooooo Good! 💋
I love watching you work. I think I will stick with my potato chips for learning to cut and polish. I can collect agate myself so don't have to worry about value.
I may be disappointed that smaller stone didn't turn out better, but I still like the subtle violet-blue flash a lot! That bigger one is gorgeous! And hey-coffee drinkers must stick together, LOL. Can't do much myself in the morning until I've had my coffee.
I really love that little stone it is speaking to me. Quite Serenity. I could actually afford it too! I just might get it for my October Birthday if I send this video to my son. What do you think? Would he get the hint? There done let's see if he picks up on it. Wish me luck

Really skilled work Justin. Such as excellent craftsman and the camera work is very professional. Was specking around lightning ridge in July and found a very small similar sized broken nobby on a fresh mine dump. Had a very dark base with intense bluish green flash. Unfortunately had a potch crater through one half of the face of the stone. Started cleaning it up with 1200grit wet and dry Emery paper and water but not much of it left now. Love the new machine. I started watching you and your video about 3 month's ago now and with headphones or playing through my speakers! The old machine just drowned you out so bad to the point I had to play volume control, always adjust up down up down.. So much more enjoyable videos now. I love the purple flashes on the black Body of the tiny Stone😍

I also really like the small Stone. I would give it a brightness of “ mysterious”. Makes you appreciate each Stone for being unique. Each stone has its own beauty which calls to each person differently.
Small, maybe not the brightest of them, but still a beautiful stone. Amazing to see you work that tiny little fellow.
The 2nd gem reminds me of the northern lights I love it
I like the first one! Love the flashes of color on the dark stone.
Same
I agree, nice purple flash
I like the way the purple pops in the small one. And the split in the green add character. Both beautiful stones
I absolutely LOVE that tiny stone!!!! I know it's far from perfect, but I would buy it in a heartbeat. I think what I love most about it is its imperfection.
I'm almost ready to jump on that half carat! At a certain angle it is gorgeous!
I think it's absolutely beautiful. 😍
Yes the coffee, that looked like a nice flat white. That shot of coffee you got from that machine was quite impressive!
I'm amazed at the reflection on the wheel at 9:01, you can see two hands working together, one in your world and one in his, God Bless beautiful work.
Love the coffee corner. Remember to enjoy the little things, and give yourself the best you can. Hope your coffee was delicious!

It's dark and mysterious. I like it.
Justin, you never disappoint us! We might be disappointed for you, but never with you. Love you, man!
You can't win them all Justin but that dark one still looks beautiful, the larger one is definitely spectacular.
