I ran across the Lyric via Pro Guitar Shop dotcom vis~a~vis Facebook. I am grateful for the video showing the step-by-step installation. As the Lyric is almost twice the cost of my little Fender Squire, I'll save buying it for something larger with a better range of sound. Otherwise, I am quite impressed, and unlike another commentator here, I was easily able to distinguish the performance enhancement without the need for an external, proper EQ'd mic. Thanks, guys. Nice job.
As an alternative to the screwdriver for locating and pulling the endpin jack through, the standard George L's cable and straight end is a perfect option, low-profile and a secure engagement to the jack.
Really gives me an edge in raggedy house PA situations, feedback does not occur unless battery is low. I really love the tone of my loud old D28 with the lyric!
Hello guys. Can I install the Lyric on my Martin D12-28? If so which side of the two rows of bridge pins would I get the most optimal sound from all 12 strings?
Thank you so much, Bryan and Derek, very useful! Great vid! I'll buy one as soon as I can, but I'm not sure if I will be able to put this on my Martin 000-15 (for the size) ¿...?
MIchael Meissner It sounded great, BUT I did replace it with the LR Baggs M1a, only because the Lyric was too responsive! I play live and record Live loops using my guitar, the Lyric picked up every little movement (including guitar strap on the guitar) that bled into the loop recordings.. other than that, i HIGHLY recommend the Lyric, it's amazing!!!
I had the ES removed from my Taylor GS8 my guitar tech fitted the LR BAGGS ANTHEM SL he was able to wire it up to the Taylor input socket "which was the only good thing about the ES "it allows u easy battery change, a neat idea" I choose the baggs SL because it is so simple to use, I read all the reviews and the SL came out tops. I've been using the Baggs SL in my guitar forabout 4 weeks now and I must say,it is the BEST pickup system I have ever heard. I've also noticed Taylor have a NEW ES out now "don't blame them" I'll be keeping the Baggs Anthem SL.
Thanks much for the demo. I'm debating replacing the M1 active in mwy Taylor dreadnought with the lyric or m-80. Although I have been very pleased with the M1, it does get in the way of strumming on occasion. The M80 would pose the same problem, but the lyric would cure that. Just hope I love the sound of the lyric because once it's in it is not so returnable I.e. no test drive. I appreciate the installation demo and your expertise. Thanks from Kentucky picker.
Question, how sturdy are the components inside the body of the guitar? Of course, I'm not going to be throwing it across the stage, but I get pretty into it while performing, and move around a good amount when playing hard. I'd hate for all the pieces to get lose and start rattling inside amid playing. Very informative video, kudos.
between lyric and the anthem sl ... wich you prefer and why ? please haha help me. i'm getting crazy to compare it but is really hard. i play at church, we have a great great sound to 800 hundred person. Our sound sistem is really awesome. i play with a takamine ( undersadle pickpuk) and i never got feedback. i'm afraid of to get the lyric and lose all bass/low of my new guitar has ( epiphone masterbilt, solid rosewood back and sides). can you help me givin more details or making a record strumming with both?
Great video! I'm considering buying an Anthem kit but I have a guitar with an adjustable saddle. Do you think it will be an issue for me? I notice you've mounted the mic slightly off-angle, which I guess I could do if the Anthem doesn't fit between the hardware.... LR Baggs say the mic positioning isn't crucial as it will get a good sound from anywhere around there.... What do you think?
Yeah, I'm wondering about that, too. Sounds great in this Hummingbird, but it sounds really compressed in other guitars. Also, this is through a fancy amp. I play Martins as well, although mine are not as bassy as the HD-28V.
Jesse Watson Great! Thank you for your response. Is their a significant difference in the bass response of an HD-28V as opposed to your Hummingbird? Also what amp are you using? Thanks Again, Guy
I have a question. Is the placement of the mike for a classical acoustic with nylon strings the same as an acoustic with steel strings? Thanks. Very informative video.
Leopoldo Gonzalez It depends on the type of bracing you have in your guitar. Most classical guitars have a style called fan bracing that is actually placed over the bridge plate, so there isn't a flat space to mount the pickup. The only way to know for sure is to looks inside your guitar and see what the bracing is like.
One thing I always do is get rid of the interior battery bag and put a nice externally accessible battery box in the side of the guitar. Just a personal preference.
Hey Brian! Great video! I'm thinking about a Lyric or Anthem for my Loriente Clarita classical....

It's a tough choice - Lyric or the Anthem. I'm a solo acoustic guitar player/singer-songwriter, and I've been searching for quite a while for sth to replace a standard piezo pickup with something more naturally sounding and the Lyric seems to be a perfect fit. Are there any vital downsides of it that should put me off?
so I have to take the strings off the guitar every time I need to change the battery? To do anything to the components you have to take the strings off?
I doubt it. I've got a pickup inside my acoustic with pretty much the same battery placement. All I do is loosen the E and A strings and slide my hand in there..
thanks Shayne! We tested it at a relatively high volume and it didn't feedback. Should work out very well for you. I didn't find that any external preamp was needed; the onboard Baggs preamp is excellent.
I guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Korbyn Carson i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hmmm. I truly appreciate the demo. I was thinking of replacing my iMix with this, but this video convinced me to not buy the Lyric. I'm just going to go with the using an external mic.
An acoustic guitar pickup that sounds like an acoustic guitar? What a novel idea! Pretty much ALL other acoustic pickups I hear add weird frequencies or fuzzy noises.
I am having trouble finding a video/recording of this product where the reviewers are smart enough to TURN OFF the voice over microphone in the room. In this video the player plays without the pickup and then ADDS the pickup sound (direct? acoustic amp?) to the mic sound in the room. Clearly it is impossible to differentiate the sound of the pickup from the voiceover mic.Terribly disappointing. I really want to know if this is truly better than the under saddle pickups I've been using for years.
Hello, can this be installed in a guitar that already has fishman pickup with eq and battery already built in? (Martin DCME Acoustic electric) I'm thinking "no". Cool vid! Love the dude in the MOP shirt. \m/
Just commenting on the Gibson shown. I can't believe Gibson screws their bridges on! Wow! I thought only real junk guitars did that! I'm not big on Gibson acoustics and now I have one more reason. I do have a Gibson Les Paul and have owned several. I also like their guitars from the thirties and forties, especially small blues guitars.
I think that’s highly debatable. I think this sounds as good as what you’ll get from the DPA 4099. But it may differ depending on the characteristics of each mic. Other than that, this mic system works just as well.
You can Usually manage to get to the battery on these sorts of installs by just tuning the strings right the way down. You mightn't necessarily need to remove the strings in most cases.
I'm disappointed neither of these Millennial masters communicated "What" kind of amp the guitar is plugged into? PA system? or are they running the pickup through a sub mix... Also, there is a lack of information on how and what regarding the adhesive and how the pickup will stay in a permanent place.
Not really helpful, "go watch another video to see how to do the end pin." I'll just go watch another video, where they actually include everything for the installation. :(
very poor "demo". can't see anything you're doing. not even connecting the end pin preamp with the cam SHOWING what you're doing. you may as well be nothing more than written instructions. i don't think you understand the concept of video. thumbs down.
Thank you for your prompt response. This will be the second one ordered for our choir and we can't wait for it to come in.

Exceptionally helpful and informative... You guys are my HEROES just now!
Hello guys. Can I install the Lyric on my Martin D12-28? If so which side of the two rows of bridge pins would I get the most optimal sound from all 12 strings?
Thanks for posting .. mine is sitting on the table ready for installation.
Thank you so much, Bryan and Derek, very useful! Great vid! I'll buy one as soon as I can, but I'm not sure if I will be able to put this on my Martin 000-15 (for the size) ¿...?
Great vid! I installed this acoustic mic into my Taylor GS mini tonight, with your help! Thanks so much! *Subscribed*
How did it turn out, does it sound good?
MIchael Meissner It sounded great, BUT I did replace it with the LR Baggs M1a, only because the Lyric was too responsive! Yes I usually fit M1's to my guitars but will try the Lyric this time
I'm sorry for the stupid question... It's possible to do some percussion technique on the body, or I have to go with a condenser mic?
Thanks for the demo/review. It appears to be the pick up I'm looking for!!!!
Is there any way to install this in a D28V Martin without having to enlarge the endpin hole to 1/2 inch ?

Where do you put the wire clips? Where can I get proper wire clips?
Works with an acoustic archtop as well. Great and warm sounding mic!
Any demos or recordings you could point me to that demonstrate the Lyric in an archtop? Thanks!

Never mind! Figured it out! The mic ships with the clips and they're dead-ass obvious to install.
The bridge isn’t screwed on, it’s glued, and the screws adjust the saddle height and angle.
where do you get that tapered reamer drill bit? and exactly what size/brand is that?
thanks!

Great video, would this type of pickup work well on a uke?
I play through a Martin HD-28v, which has a huge bass response.. would this pickup not be suitable for it regarding feedback and potential clarity?
Yeah, I'm wondering about that, too. Sounds great in this Hummingbird, but it sounds really compressed in other guitars. Also, this is through a fancy amp. I play Martins as well, although mine are not as bassy as the HD-28V.

would it be possible to have both an under saddle pickup and the lyrics pickup on one guitar? to kind of get the best of both worlds.
LR Baggs Anthem

Hi. I have a 67 Hummingbird that also has a screwed down pick guard. I think they changed around 66/67 back to glued down ones.
I mean its decent. still doesn't come close to a DPA 4099 mic right on the guitar though
I think that’s highly debatable. I think this sounds as good as what you’ll get from the DPA 4099. But it may differ depending on the characteristics of each mic. Other than that, this mic system works just as well.
that looks real EASY
one thing I have in mind is the hassle to change battery, you need to take off the string first to reach the battery inside
