By far the best low light test I have seen for these two drones. It would be interesting to watch the same test but with pictures, sice the shutter speed can go below 1/50, the best results are with the drone in "tripod/cine" option mode from the controller.

Great night video comparison. I own a mini 2 and thinking of upgrading to a MA2S. MA2 is great but if I’m buying another drone wouldn’t make sense to buy the 2. Thanks 👍🏼
Just got my AIR 2s recently so I'm learning as much as I can from videos like yours. Low light shooting looks promising! What color profile did you shoot the video? (sorry if I missed that in the video) Would you recommend D-log at night/low light?
Really excellent side by side comparison. I tend to shoot though at the same shutter speed as my frame rate for night shots just to get the noise down, I'm surprised you didn't try out 1/25 sec. Video is still a challenge at night even with a 1" sensor, photos however I have shot at 1/5 sec ISO 100 and I get quite good results. It's always a trade off between some detail in the darker areas and blowing out the brightest lights.
Can I just say something here? The mavic air 2 use to take just as good night video as the air 2s. The 6400 iso on the mavic air 2 has actually been dumbed down to 1600, although Dji claims it's 6400. They did this shortly after the air 2s hit the market so they could make it look better. But two years ago the footage looked exactly the same. Believe it or not the mini 2 is also almost as capable of the same night footage. most people think its the sensor size but you are all being lied to. And actually two years ago the mavic air 2 night footage was even brighter and more clear then the air 2 s is in this video. But Dji decided if you want it even better, your going to have to upgrade from the air 2 s to the next latest and greatest. They are not utilizing that one inch sensor at all. Just go find some night footage of the air 2 from two years ago and you will see what I'm talking about.
I’ve owned the Mavic air 2 since it came out and this isn’t true. The night footage is and always has been garbage from the MA2. Air 2s is a huge leap from both the mini 2 and MA2. Thanks for watching 👍
@@AboveandBeyondFilms I just know that they have changed my mavic air 2 for night footage. It’s not near as bright. I noticed it after an update about 9 months ago. It’s not nearly as bright as it use to be.
Are the lights less blown out/over exposed in the air 2s than the air 2 ? Does it compare to the mavic 2 pro since both for same sensor size ? Can we see a low light flight plz ?…
Shutter speed must be atleast double the recorded fps. Since he was shooting at 24p the shutter speed kept at 1/50 is perfect ,any lower and the footage will be blurry.
Great test.. very informative, and Air2S is hands down better at night... that sensorsize matters... but there are some thing from Air2 I really would have loved to see on Air2S.. not least its HDR... been very impressed by the shots I have seen comparing the Air2S versus Air2 , and Air2 ablelity to keep high and lows balanced, even in low light sunsets. Would also have liked to see that 240fps1080p slow mo... be ported, but I reckon its same internal and they cant hence compute margins with the Air2S bigger sensor. Also not that crazy about Air2S unven frame.. often not as uniform in sharpness as Air2..certain parts are sharp on Air2S /like the center, while other regions not so much,, though not as bad as MP2, and its 1" that was blurry & soft, almost to an extent that you wondered about, if its a sensor & lens array-alignment fault. ex. of HDR Air2 vs M3 Air2S ua-cam.com/video/wdHoOIY9poQ/v-deo.html /direct sun
Just found you. Nice job. Question : I got an offer from DJI for a Mavic Air Fly More Combo for $799. That’s only $200 more than the Mini 2. Do you think that is the better deal? I currently have a Mavic Mini. Thx!
@@AboveandBeyondFilms Many thanks for your advice A&B. I’ve been wanting the Air 2s since it came out but it is prohibitively expensive for me. I’ve passed on the Mini 2 for the lack of avoidance sensors and wind resistance. The 20% off offered by DJY on the Air 2 put it within my reach as it $500 less than the 2s. However, I’ll take your advice and hold out for the 2s or some future model. It’s what I really want anyway.
The Mavic Air 2 don’t shoot 5.4k. I wanted to all the settings the same between the two. Going to make another video on just the A2S and will shoot some 5.4k
@@AboveandBeyondFilms It doesn't really make sense to compare cameras on "equal settings". That's like comparing two cars in the third gear, even though one car might have a 10 speed automatic, while the other has a 4-speed automatic. What matters is the picture coming out, so what you should do is try to make each camera look "the same" in whatever way is most advantageous for that camera, i.e. for the 2S use 5.4K and downsample (if that looks better), and for the Mavic Air 2 you need to brighten the video, not just compare at the same ISO. Then compare the images for noise, etc. Still, your video is definitely useful, thank you for posting.

Hi, In very basic terms, ISO is simply a camera setting that will brighten or darken a photo. As you increase your ISO number, your photos will grow progressively brighter. For that reason, ISO can help you capture images in darker environments, or be more flexible about your aperture and shutter speed settings. However, raising your ISO has consequences.
