For 5 years I became my disabled sister’s carer….and carer to my elderly mum who had dementia. On top of my own family’s commitments….. with minimal help from anyone. We have a really hard time leaving our “special” daughter (31) with anyone but family. I don’t think I’d be able to relax and enjoy a vacation without her. Some people may not understand that. I’m glad you guys were able to get away.
I totally understand. It was very hard for us to get to this point, and we were still often worrying about her, but ultimately we knew she was in good hands.
So happy you two could take time for yourselves and Raelynn was in such a great place of care! You two are wonderful parents!! We raised 4 kids and went on our first vacation without them after 31 years...I know that sounds weird but they were spaced out in ages and for us, our children had no special needs like your beloved daughter so we took them everywhere on long trips.. For your family it would have been difficult with her needs and oxygen. When the last young adult moved out, we went to Italy first and next 5 countries in a whirlwind trip before Covid. We have been making up for the time in so many ways...yet we still treasure our children and see them frequently.
@@HopeAndSunshine Thank you and we met young enough so it was fine. We have been together since I was 21 and he was 20 so that is 37 years now being together so we have been empty nesters for 6 years. We know what true devotion is and your family is an epic example of this!!!!
This makes me so happy! As a mum of a 7yo child, who while is mobile, is terribly hard to manage(she has autism and adhd and though she is extremely high functioning, her behaviour is crazy most of the time she’s awake) I know how much a break can do for a full time parent of a child with a disability. I only leave my little one with my mum as she is the only one who doesn’t underestimate her abilities. How did you prepare yourselves for trusting the care of your precious Angel to somewhere you can’t see her 24/7? I’ve been speaking to respite places and I can’t make myself trust them to take care of her, but I’m getting to the point that I need some sort of help. I’m just terrified that if something happens to her she won’t be able to tell me and I’ll never know she was hurt. If that makes sense?! Hope your holiday was magical and that your beautiful little girl had the best time where she was too xx
I know exactly how you feel. Believe me, it definitely wasn't easy. We talked with them extensively, saw their facilities, saw how they operate within their facilities, and labeled all of Raelynn's equipment and medication with very specific instructions. Plus, it helps that we actually stayed with Raelynn at a very similar facility just recently as she recovered from hip surgery. So we saw firsthand how well patients are treated at this kind of place. They receive excellent care. They're in very good hands. And even with all of that, we were still very nervous about it, and greatly appreciated the updates. Hope this helps! Thanks for sharing your story, and God bless you!!
You needed your vacation because you needed time to relax, it’s only natural to miss your children, but their comes a time when you both need you time! Im glad 😃 you had lots of fun and you both relaxed! I love ❤️ the video thank you 🙏 for sharing
In 24 years my husband and I have not had a vacation alone. Our medically fragile son is much like your daughter. It is so important to work on your marriage and take respite time though. We have made our vacations family vacations and even brought nurses with us sometimes. This is a very courageous and loving thing you did for each other. I know it certainly isn’t the easiest thing to do. That looks like a nice respite facility. We don’t have anything like that within hours of where we live. God Bless your family. My husband and I have worked hard on our relationship and it will be 30 years in Oct. We have other children as well. Thank you for sharing your journey. The instead world of caring for a medically fragile child is not understood by many people. I completely get it. Although we don’t go away together without our son, we find ways to keep the marriage strong. We are all connected in this very special world of special needs caregiving. I was supposed to fly to California today to visit my daughter who lives in Orange. But I had to cancel my trip because we are having a crisis trying to find an enteral formula that is safe for him. Literally no amino acid based formula available at all. I had to stay home because my son has such sensitivity and I need to keep looking for something that he can have. And monitor the process, he tried one formula already but had a severe allergic reaction. I’m glad this worked out for you both. Keep up the great work. I am grateful to share this universe with you. ❤️
Omg, y’all are God sent, I would’ve never known. But I’m a new subscriber to YALL channel and will view more videos…. Stay safe and keep the heart ♥️ of gold u guys have…. 🥰💕
I know it's harder to leave Raelynn with just anyone and over an extended period of time for a vacation is extremely hard. But have you at least had an opportunity to go out to dinner or a movie etc. without kids?
Would have been nice to have seen pictures of your daughter with the friends she made & also being taken out for a walk possibly unless Raelyns needs are too complex to go for a walk. Great video & glad you took a break. ♥️
@@HopeAndSunshine I am only realising the complex nature of some disabilities as my dad has Vascular Parkinsonism. My elderly dad's progressively getting worse with his movements, communication, swallowing & toileting. I live & care for him 24/7 & I have carers come in 4 times a day. I know the ins & outs of my dad so much that it's hard to let go for even a few hours. I have been told I am a perfectionist as I make sure dad's cared for 100%. Even though carers help they sometimes do not have the same methods & it can be irritating underneath. I understood that moment straight away when you said about the safety belt being on your daughter. I am yet to have a week's respite but not as brave to put dad into a care home for a week. I understood every ounce of this video. You are a wonderful family. Love from the UK ❤️
I hope you enjoyed your parents only vacation! When you look at your updates I can see concern on mom's face. That makes me sad I completely understand the anxiety of leaving your child in other care.

I just found your videos. I have a grandbaby who's name is Raelynn! Both beautiful girls. My Rae is a twin and was born a little early. She is 2 now and not as verbal as other kids her age. We deal with daily crying fits because she can't communicate with us the way she wants to. We also have a niece with CP who is non verbal, legally blind, in a wheelchair and only has use of her left arm. I'm glad that you have been able to share Raelynn's journey for others to know they aren't alone. My sister couldn't share hers as it was a shaken baby case and they had to hide from the abuser. I love your vacation updates and can't wait to beng watch your videos!
Im glade you guys can get away so many times parents in your situation just forget or can’t take to so you can recoup it’s important to take care of your selfs so you can continue to love and take care of her good job guys.
I am so happy to see you get some respite time...she's adorable and she I am positive is getting the best of care...relax and rediscover how much YOU love EACH OTHER, which for busy parents can be down on the bottom of a list as far as "we need"...just always write time alone and then whenver possible do take the time. My blessings and love among thousands of others reading this give you ...to enjoy, reconnect and fall in love all over again. May you do this for yourselves at least once a month by spending just a weekend along if your church friends, your neighbors and or friends in the community can reach out and help....I know her needs are special and might require a bit of training for those that help...but thats do able. Have a wonderful vacation as you spend precious time alone and reconnect as husbands and wives of to have to do.

Not sure if there are any viewers on here that are looking for help/ respite, but in the US, there are usually services with the county or state that can connect you with many different caregiver programs that have others with loved ones they care. Sometimes these folks will also take turns providing respite (Care) for each other’s loved ones when needed.
I could never leave my baby like that... i just couldn't do it..you guys are brave..im mpst likely like the way i am i work 7x a week i take zero days off unless an emergency. I come home and my 3 kids are my # 1 priority while im home..then it cook.. clean and same routine. Im 38 i and my hubs have never been on vacation..i had my 1st young so life was sort of all about babies at a young age.. vacation would be a dream to us.. but it will nevwr ever happen...by the time my kids are old enough well be older and not wanting to do what we have only dreamed of...welp i hope you 2 have a Beautiful vacation. It is well deserved for sure..your daughter is beautiful btw.. praying for your lil family xx
They should have called you at least once in the middle of the vacation and put the phone near her ear so she could hear your voice. I know my bird/parrot got happy and cheerful when he heard the woman who raised him on a UA-cam video I played.
I am sonhappy you were able to take a much needed break. My mother cared for my sister everyday for over 27 years before she took her very first and only vacation for a week while I stayed with my sister. I know even with my own child who happens to be on the spectrum that you need that time to be a couple. To reconnect and refresh. Looks like she was well cared and did good. Now perhaps you will be able to get those times in every once in a blue moon. What you do for her is the hardest job and done for love. I hope that when I begin my career as a special education teacher J have amazing people like you as my parents for my classroom!
I didn’t read all the comments but I do really hope no one comes on here and says anything rude I couldn’t imagine having to deal with the stuff u guys have go threw u need alone time once in a while I would almost bet that the parents had a harder time being away from there kid especially because that’s been your life for so long
That’s good to take a break just the two of you to regroup relax etc etc or and at times go away with the other children. But I wonder if you all actually get your vacation time or always worrying about her not saying that’s the case . Or if so that’s okey. But also some parents when they do go on break or on vacation if something happens to their special needs child or children they stuck coming back from vacation. Or is like everyone different and decide what’s serious enough to make them cut their vacation short or not if any of that makes sense
There's definitely a part of us that was always worried about her when we were gone. But she was at a very good place, so she was being well cared for ❤️

? First of all the title. Absolutely a big no for me! I absolutely hate how some UA-camrs use things like this to make people worried and click on them fast. You know you did it just admit it. Second. I have three kids and I haven't been on vacation in god-knows-how-long. I totally understand that people need a break I get that and I'm not shaming anybody for needing time away or anything like that. I personally just would never be able to leave and drop my child off somewhere to take a vacation especially with them having all these medical issues. This is just my opinion I'm not trying to be mean and anyway I just feel very strongly about this. I have a daughter who has a lot going on medically and I could have never dropped her off somewhere to take a vacation far away like that. Could she have not come with you guys? It's not my business I'm just saying I don't see how a parent could do that. I personally couldn't. But I guess I'm glad you guys had a great time while your daughter was probably worried if you going to come back or not period And as you have your subscribers worrying that your poor daughter passed away with your title 🤦♀️
Sorry you feel that way. I can see how the title could be taken that way, but it definitely wasn't my intention to upset anyone. I appreciate your thoughts on this. I also appreciate the way you expressed your opinion about our vacation. It definitely wasn't an easy decision. We had to weigh our daughter's health, the facility's competence, and several other factors. Not an easy choice, so I can see how others may not have made the same one. Either way, thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts. God bless you ❤️
@@HopeAndSunshine it seems that a lot of people took your title the wrong way. So if you see that and you're aware of that why haven't you changed the title? Just curious. And I respect your response to my comment

We have been making up for the time in so many ways...yet we still treasure our children and see them frequently.
Wow, 31 years is a long time! Glad you were able to get away!
Yes, very true! Thank you!!
You need time out occasionally a time on your own….
Bless these parents. Hope they get a fun rested well deserved vacation! What a beautiful sweet daughter they have.
We had a very nice time 😊
In 24 years my husband and I have not had a vacation alone.
Thanks so much! And thanks for sharing your story. I hope your son is doing well. God bless you!
Love you so much
Lots of love

@@HopeAndSunshine I'm glad that you had fun.
What lovely parents you are. I loved that your daughter mouthed words to you both. What a pretty girl she is. ❤️
Yes she is ❤️
Yeah they are lucky to have nurses to help take care of their child. Thanks nurses
We are very grateful for good nurses ❤️
I know it's harder to leave Raelynn with just anyone and over an extended period of time for a vacation is extremely hard. But have you at least had an opportunity to go out to dinner or a movie etc. without kids?
Not too often. I think only once in the last few years. But we might be able to more soon, since Raelynn's home health nursing situation is improving.
Would have been nice to have seen pictures of your daughter with the friends she made & also being taken out for a walk possibly unless Raelyns needs are too complex to go for a walk. Great video & glad you took a break. ♥️
Yeah, I would have loved even more updates also. But I'm also grateful for the ones we got. ❤️
Yeah, it's not easy
You are awesome people💞😇😇 Hope you had a wonderful vacation❣ God bless you.🙏❤
Barb from San Diego, California
We adopted my cousin's daughter who was born addicted to heroin. We got her when she was 3 weeks old. She's now 36!
One of our four kids is a "chosen child " but we can't remember which one it is❣
You're so kind! Blessings to you and your family!
Thanks so much for sharing! Blessings to you and your family!
The photo at the first of video where Chris is bent down to Raelynn saying good bye is such an angelic photo of her i just love looking at it 💕💫
I agree. It's a good shot!
Glad you were able to find a place you trusted. People who are caregivers need some time away. Makes it easier if you trust them!💕
Yes it does ❤️
What beautiful amazing parents to a gorgeous little girl! ❤🌸
Thank you!
Im glade you guys can get away so many times parents in your situation just forget or can’t take to so you can recoup it’s important to take care of your selfs so you can continue to love and take care of her good job guys.
Yes, it's definitely important 👍
Thanks! We had an AWESOME time on our vacation. It was so incredibly restful. But it's also good to be home. ❤️
Your so Patient & understanding with your daughter, sending hugs

Not sure if there are any viewers on here that are looking for help/ respite, but in the US, there are usually services with the county or state that can connect you with many different caregiver programs that have others with loved ones they care. Sometimes these folks will also take turns providing respite (Care) for each other’s loved ones when needed.
Yes, I've heard about this. Interesting program!
I completely understand. I hope that even without going on vacation, you have time to rest and rejuvenate. Blessings to you!
At first glance the title scared the daylights out of me for a few seconds........ But after I got over the scare I enjoyed the vid.
Sorry about that!!
@@HopeAndSunshine Yes for one second my heart skipped a beat!!!!!! Or maybe two......:))
@@HopeAndSunshine I love my Raelynn girl.
They should have called you at least once in the middle of the vacation and put the phone near her ear so she could hear your voice. I know my bird/parrot got happy and cheerful when he heard the woman who raised him on a UA-cam video I played.
That would have been a good idea ❤️
I am sonhappy you were able to take a much needed break. My mother cared for my sister everyday for over 27 years before she took her very first and only vacation for a week while I stayed with my sister. I know even with my own child who happens to be on the spectrum that you need that time to be a couple. To reconnect and refresh. Looks like she was well cared and did good. Now perhaps you will be able to get those times in every once in a blue moon. What you do for her is the hardest job and done for love. I hope that when I begin my career as a special education teacher J have amazing people like you as my parents for my classroom!
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's so important that we share these things with others. Blessings to you as you begin your career!

No vacation in 10 years? Well deserved!!
Thanks
We love u always baby girl❤❤❤❤
Very happy girl
Raply please on the way come up
We're glad she's happy most of the time ❤️
That’s good to take a break just the two of you to regroup relax etc etc or and at times go away with the other children.
But she was at a very good place, so she was being well cared for ❤️
I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
We did, thanks!
I love How they are so understanding parenting is a life time job enjoy your break

My daughter name is Braelyn. I almost named her Raelynn because my middle name is Rae and my mom's middle name is Lynn. My mom passed away from ALS back in 2019. When I first put the name raelynn/braelynn together I fell IN LOVE 🥰 😍 ❤ she's adorable BTW, I honestly can't imagine how hard it must be to be in this situation. As a single mom with 2 special needs children I can relate. I have never been on vacation ever. But my mom will take over night and only person i trust . Due to pandemic been 3 years no respite or pca. Now searching to find new pca. Hope you were able recharge as any Dr will tell you if you don't get a self care break then your no use to your child as you burn out .
That's very true. We had a great, relaxing time. Hope you're able to get some rest, too. ❤️
They probably keep the harness on because there's many kids to tend I'm just assuming, I worked at a home with 6 residents with multiple diagnosis and it's was a lot for just me cooking the meals cleaning arts and crafts, and daily personal care, as you guys know there's a lot that goes into care! ❤️ Your daughter is beautiful and she was safe and healthy all that matters 😊 and you guys know how to care best for her because she's yours 💗💓💕
Hope you guys had a beautiful vacation
We had a great time, thanks!
I love watching your UA-cam channel and you really help make me get trow my epilepsy alot bye watching your UA-cam channel Raeyland just puts a smile on my face she is so sweet 🙏
I'm so glad to hear that! You're so sweet!!
This is the best title that I can think of that conveys what the video is about, and the emotions we had in the process. I haven't seen very many comments saying they were misled by it, most are overwhelmingly supportive. But I'm open to ideas for a better title. I'm definitely still learning how all this works.
@@HopeAndSunshine really? I've counted about 5 already that have said oh my God you scared me by the title. " saying goodbye to ( her name) while we go on vacation could have worked. 🤷♀️
such amazing parents your daughter is beautiful glad you got a vacation always good for mental health to have a break as a care aid we always had to put the harness on for safety reasons
That's true. She does very good sitting up on her own in her chair though, so we only use it when traveling. But I can see how it can be useful to others
