They played in a Metal band in Mexico City, switched to acoustic and moved to Ireland for a while, busked on the streets of Dublin, you should hear their cover of Stairway to Heaven, Diablo Rojo was the name of a roller coaster in Mexico
Everyone who has had the pleasure of seeing these guys live is in love with Gabriela. Probably Rodrigo too. Amazing musicians and they put on a mesmerizing performance
Great reaction! I saw Rodrigo Y Gabriela a few times now, and got to meet them in person- they are so friendly and humble. They do not consider themselves flamenco, but more of a rock fusion guitarists. They are one of my absolute favorite! If you have a chance see them in person- Great music, great people, both on and off stage.
Thanks, *Wave* for the reaction glad you have enjoyed it 😊 I saw this group twice at *Red Rocks* and with just two of them performing they rocked the place. They are influenced by *Metallica* and performed several of their songs. Well I hope you will checkout more of their material in the future.
So glad you're checking them out. I discovered them a while back and they are incredible. Former rock/metal musicians doing insane acoustic work with percussion on the guitars
Rodrigo Y Gabriela are amazing. They were originally heavy metal guitarists but switched to a more Flamenco style and incorporated some metal/rock styles into their sound--sometimes I call it 'thrash-flamenco" 😆
Fun fact for Flamenco lovers. Have to be old to appreciate this. "Charo" (the "Cuchi-Cuchi" girl from "Rowan and Martin's Laugh In" is considered to be one of the best Flamenco Guitarists in the world. She married 65-year-old bandleader Xavier Cugat and moved to the U.S. with him.
When they first rose to TV-level fame in the USA and UK (2009/2010) their style was called 'heavy metal flamenco'. They play their own compositions as well as amazing covers. That piece is in the movie Puss in Boots, they are better known outside of their native Mexico. They claim it's not Flamenco. Greetings from their home town, Mexico City.
Thoroughly enjoyed that! Couldn't place the genre - don't think it's flamenco. Super cool performance either way. The guitars are interesting too. Not actual "classically" classical guitars, but some sort of crossover. Narrower necks on both and, while hers seems to be a more standard configuration with a 12th fret neck joint and 19 frets in total, his has a longer scale with 24 frets and the joint at the 14th. All the crossovers I've seen have radiused fretboards, but theirs both seem to be flat. The body on his seems much shallower than "normal" too. While nylon strung guitars have more string tension than the average electric, it's less than a steel string acoustic, though the action tends to be higher.
You need listen the master in flamenco guitar Paco de Lucia ;) a short video in youtuve tico-tico o Flamnco puro: with the "god" of "cante jondo" "cante gititano" Camron de la isla ,, Cantando "por bulerias" Buena Reacción : Salud y rock and roll . :)

I was surprised as well
Rodrigo Y Gabriella are coming to Montreal on July 1/2023 . I'm looking forward to see them once again.

Yeah, she was a spanish flamenco guitarist among other things. For anyone interested, they can search "Charo plays Malagueña (1977)".

the two said it's not flamenco.
idk the difference either. either way, this album rocks.
Nylon string guitars are actually easier to play in terms of flexibility of the strings.

Buena Reacción :
Salud y rock and roll . :)
Definetly not flamenco, this sounds more Latin American. Pretty awesome
its Flamenco, wtf, new wave, but Flamenco to 100%
That is definitely not flamenco.
Not even close.
too much overtalking and too many pauses
