- An ancient Roman square, unburied only a century ago, is believed to be the site of Julius Caesar's assassination nearly two thousand years ago. Now, the site is open to the public for the first time in millenia. Chris Livesay reports from Rome.

....Jesus?
Jesus Christ is much more important..😊
The damn Roman's killed Jesus
With the help of the Jews
less important, more glorified.
Caesar and his assassination are so legendary, it’s hard to grasp that they were real.
Right?
And THAT is the spot where it all happened!
Now people can literally walk in their footsteps!
It's just incredible to think about!
@@kylaarmstrong-benjamin8066I hope Americans don't ruin it
@@BlackTourmaline25 or anyone from the UK!
@@BlackTourmaline25think you should worry more about your illegal immigrant problem over there then a few American tourists LOL
I'm such a history nut that this stuff fascinates me. It's hard to imagine that here in America, historical places have been around for 250 years or so, 300 at best but these places in Europe have been around for thousands of years.
Natives would say otherwise. Don't insult them by saying America only started existing 300 years.
@@ltahoe9257 Fun Fact: They're not natives. They migrated here just like everyone else and to imply otherwise is an intellectual dishonesty.
@@Rockhound6165 lol one is native to where they were born. And given that they emigrated here thousands of years ago with their generations being in this land for far longer than Europeans cared to cross an ocean I think we can call them Native Americans. Their history on this land is more than thousands of years old. But you missed my point in my previous comment. You are correct in that historical places in the US have only been around for 300 or so years BUT ONLY historical to European immigrants. I'm counting the Mayflower and everyone after that as the "European Immigrants". The natives don't necessarily have what we would consider "historical" but they had something similar, they had sacred places which the US government didn't care an iota to respect. You're a history buff, you should know.
@@ltahoe9257 OK so what you are saying is that I'm Native American then, right? Anyhoo, they came here first. We came next and conquered them. Been the same story since time immemorial. In fact, Indian tribes were in a constant state of war with each other over land and resources. So don't give me this stolen land bullcrap when they were stealing each other's land since day one. We were just better at it.
@@Rockhound6165 congrats for being THAT person. Go around and tell people you're a Native American 🌟. And as with the stolen land, sure they were battling each other but the thirst for power and world domination was no where near the thirst Europeans had. With that being said, the US IS getting stolen, slowly welp maybe fast. We have immigrants galore and the European immigrants will be a minority eventually. Like you said, same story. Would be a bummer if future generations knock down our historical places. Imagine Mt. Rushmore and the likes being crumbled to pieces.
Its actually a smart idea to have cats there. They are good guardians and protectors of the site. Imagine all the vermin that could burrow and dig away at the foundations and ruin what is there. The cats are their main predators and are a form of pest control. Not only that they keep the vermin population at bay which causes disease in a city like that.
If I ever return to Rome, I will visit this spot for sure.
Did you throw any coins in Trevi Fountain? They say it means that you WILL be back some day.
Amazing. I am glad it is open to the public now. Old and new together.
I walked around it looking down. It was full of stray cats.
Is there also another forum with a cat sanctuary? Because last time I was in Rome a few years ago I'm pretty sure this was the place I saw. Up on street level there were some steps that went into where they kept the cats.
@@jerseygirl5there are over 4,000 cat sanctuaries in Rome.
@@jerseygirl5 That's it. The site has been there to look into for years from the street, now you can walk down.
And I was in Rome not long ago...😭
Time to go back!
It's like going to Pisa and the tower is closed.
Walked by there a few times in May, very cool! Glad it's now open to the public.
Glad the cats own it and they are being taken care of
"Beware the Ides of March"!
And, not just the Iron Maiden song.
For cns Saturday morning I Rome that was nice to see. I enjoy seeing what is of interest in other parts of the world.
I’m ignorant to the subject of the ruin/new city with this particular question, why is it below the street level around it, does this mean there are ruins underneath/destroyed by the modern buildings? Any info would be appreciated
Modern buildings built over and over on top of earlier civilizations.😊
@@KOOLBadgerthat's so crazy walking around living around ancient civilization. like you are walking where the legends walked literally
This news report left me a little confused, and now I have more unanswered questions.

Wow...my dream was to go see Rome, unfortunately now im old and really missed my chance. Aways been fascinated by the Roman Empire.
Just in time for my Roma trip!

I can see this perhaps being the start of a new radio drama: The Death of Gaius Julius Caesar
"Are you Gaius Julius Caesar?"
"I am."
*sounds of him being stabbed*
RIP CAESAR
I give it 10 minutes before a protestor throws orange powder on it. 😢
and should be dealt with extreme prejudice
He was killed for his pizza and salads a sad day in history
Thank you Bvlgari ….. also thank you for your wonderful quality of perfume sets, products for women and men:)!
That camera man knew what he was doing at 3:49......Forsooth, I too can attest to the allure of a well-proportioned physique.😂
Let’s see how long before an ignorant tourist defaces it
should have been opened on ... The Ides of March
I thought Julius Caesar was bumped off in the Theater of Pompey. Is this the same place?
Would love to see that but probably won't. I love that history. My latin teacher made it come alive ❤
No no I can confirm I was there
Great, now tourists have a new place to carve their initials.
Ui system I keep close it on my phone I'm not hook up to that
Anyone graffiti “et tu brute”on the 2400 year old bricks?
"Kilroy was here."
@@FortitudineVincimusLOL
"Et tu brute" is shakespear invention. The real julius caesar never said that. He was too busy being stabbed 23 times.
However it appears his last word before being stabbed is. "Ista quidem ist" ("Why this is violence!", or "but this is violence")

When you die at the palace, you really die at the palace.
Omg YES YES YES!
0:04 "nearly two millennia" Let's do the math. Now is 2023, already more than two millennia. Add to that the 44 years BCE, and we get 2067, the number of years since the assassination.
This girl's not too bright.
It’s called rounding, good grief.
@@maestoso47 No, that's not what rounding is. What she should have said is "more than two millennia", or "over two millennia", and you know it. "Nearly" means "almost, but not quite".

It would be cool if Trump were to go take a visit, and the CIA make it as realistic an experience as possible.
@R463R You mean like what happened to Kennedy? JFK said he was going to defund the CIA for suggesting a false flag attack on US citizens to him. 2 months later, he was dead. Trump never threatened to defund the CIA. Lol.
For some reason, I have never seen a photo of the remains of the block Augustus erected on the exact spot Caesar was stabbed. Why not?
I blame Trump for caesars death said cbs
Blame yourself for your pathetic grammar.
Yes, Ceasar's was the most pivotal betrayal in history. Couldn't be when Judas betrayed Jesus, leading to the Lord dying on a cross for the sins of the world. Nah, it was this😂😂😂 ... get a grip. Repent and accept Jesus
