  • In preparation for Tika's big departure across the Rainbow Bridge, we spent her final three weeks doing all the things we wanted to do (except swimming because the lake was still frozen at the end of May!) We created so many precious memories during those days! (Be sure to see her other videos and her two-part story below).
TIKA's 14.5 years of life on earth: 1/3/7 - 5/28/21. Her spirit lives forever and always in my heart.
Tika is my soul dog and she has had a profound impact on life. I've written a two-part story documenting our experience with Tika, a senior German Shepherd dog that developed Degenerative Myelopathy (paralysis of the spine) in her latter years. I hope her story reaches pets and parents who are experiencing similar circumstances and who may be in need of some guidance, compassion and hope.
I have documented our experience together in a special TWO-PART STORY and hope that her story reaches others who have a great love for their pets or who are are experiencing similar challenges.
    SEE TIKA'S HEARTWARMING TWO-PART STORY:
    1. Comfort and Care for our Senior and Paralyzed German Shepherd Dog - Tika's Story -Part 1
    Visit: www.tawnabrown.com/degenerati...
Part 1 shares a story of compassion, dedication, commitment and unconditional love. It provides suggestions on how to provide care and comfort for a senior/disabled pet.
    2. Pet Bereavement - Moving Forward with Love and Grief - Tika’s Story - Part 2
    Visit: www.tawnabrown.com/pet-bereav...
Part 2 is an inspirational story of pet bereavement. You will learn how to move forward with love and grief without having to say good-bye to your beloved companion. It covers our final weeks together, preparations for the big departure and an overview of the grief journey.
***If Tika's story touches you in anyway, I'd love to hear from you in the comments at the end of the blog post (see above links). If you liked this video (or any of Tika's videos), please leave a comment, click on the "like" button, and/or subscribe to my channel.

On my last day with our beautiful shepherd cross I took her to our stretch of river which was her favourite place, we chatted and she watched the water before we went to the vets were she was in my arms as she left us

How beautiful. I'm sure she enjoyed that so very much and I know what those intimate moments are like. Such cherished memories.

That's so interesting! My new addition is "Hiccup" (name came with her), and my petsitter suggested I change her name to "Hika" to be closer to Tika's name, and it would still sound like "Hiccup"! But I didn't change it... Hiccup's name is part of her personality:)

Such a heart-wrenching and difficult experience to endure. Geno's spirit remains with you forever and always and I hope this brings you some comfort...knowing that your relationship and connection does not have to end. The spirit never dies. I hope you find your own way to reconnect with his spirit.

Love watching these videos with Tika. I found your channel too late, but it helps because I lost 2 dogs during Covid to old age and cancer.
I so wish that I would have got to follow your channel when Tika was still with us. That's the type of dog that you will never forget.

Thank you! Such kind words:) Although you found Tika's videos "after" her passing, her story is there to help people through their own experiences and also to offer a different perspective on death/loss - which is not only applicable to animals. This is part of Tika's legacy.... connecting with others! I remain just as connected with her as I did when she was physically present...and I have never felt her absence. She remains my guide and teacher in life! (Not sure if you've seen Tika's full story, here is Part 2: www.tawnabrown.com/pet-bereavement-grief/) Thank you!

Always so sad when they go, having survived that pain many times, its plain that dogs live too short or humans too long, I hope you got another shepherd, the new one never replaces the old one, but each is special in their own way. From an old guy who has owned many GSD. Peace be with you on earth and Tika in heaven.

Thank you. I've learned so many lessons from my experience with Tika, and she continues to hold a central part in my (daily) life... her spirit is with me forever and always. I have adopted a rescue named Hiccup (wasn't the plan!!!), and she brings so much joy to my life! I truly believe that we are meant to continuously give/share love throughout our lives... and by doing so, we are also sharing that love with our beloveds! Here is Hiccup's adoption story: ua-cam.com/video/4aMwbOtvgPI/v-deo.htmlsi=2dqzVzHNe7cPm-Ts (she is also on instagram and facebook, and you can find her by searching #hiccupadventures.... and Tika: #tikatribute.) Also sharing Tika's 2-part story: www.tawnabrown.com/degenerative-myelopathy-senior-dog/.
Best wishes to you and yours.
