- Best Irish Tea Brack Recipe.
Some also refer to this as Barmbrack, Bairín Breac or Tea Cake. There are a few versions of it containing mixed peel, glaced cherries, lemon juice and other delights. There’s also a yeasted Barmbrack which is common at Halloween. I’ll cover that later this year
Chris’s Irish Tea Brack
300g Mixed dried fruit
200ml of Cold Tea
100ml of Guinness
A Drop of Whiskey(2-3 tbsp)
1 Large Egg
75g Dark Brown Sugar
240g of Plain Flour
2tsp of Baking Powder
2tsp of Mixed Spice
Baked in a 2lb/900g tin for 50 minutes at 180C Conventional Oven
The Guinness and Whiskey are optional. Just go with around 300ml of Tea instead if you prefer that.
Brilliant because you keep it simple for us thickness 😊👍🏻

must try...looks great...I am Irish born but living in Canada nearly 50 years...surprised that the accent got in the way...had to rewind a few times...lol
Where in Ireland? 😄
Made this today - had no whisky but added southern comfort instead and 2 eggs as mine were a bit on the small side - tastes amazing (btw if your dried fruit is a bit old and dried up, add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to the mix when soaking the fruit in the tea)
Great stuff! Cheers for that Stella! 🙌🏻😊☘️
Love to make this
@@florenceobrien2822 👌🏻😋
thank you, looks 😋
Thanks a lot! Give it a try. Happy 4th! 🎉
You're an inspiration. It is remarkable to watch you bake. Can you give the types of spice in your spice mix.
Thanks a lot! It’s an actual product called mixed spice. It’s a blend of nutmeg, coriander, cinnamon, mace, ginger, cloves and allspice 😊
@@irishbakerabroad Thanks. I'm in the US 🇺🇸
That's a fine looking tea back Chris. I might give it a bash. The ones you buy in the shops are about a third of the size of your 2 pound one, but probably cost twice as much.
Ah definitely. Go for it. You won’t regret it! 👌🏻😋
Thumbs up.... Thanking you....
Thanks very much Juliet! 😊🙌🏻
🍻 for the cake 😊
My pleasure Lorraine! Happy 4th! 🎉
@@irishbakerabroad I'm here in England....but both parents where Dubliners from finglas & crumlin....I now know how to cook barmbrack ☺️ happy 4th to yourself & the family 🥰
@@lorraine7183 Have a good one! 💚🤍🧡
Is the raisin mix left out or put in fridge overnight?
Yummy. Did you put your loaf tin into another tin in the oven?
No just one tin ☘️
@@irishbakerabroad I baked it today. Wasn't too shabby 😀
Hi chris, for teetotals and non-liqour drinkers, what else to substitute those whiskey and guinness? Can i go for a non-alcoholic malt drink?
You can just use tea instead then or try the non alcoholic malt drink. But using just tea is perfectly fine 😊☘️
@@irishbakerabroad cheers chris, hope it turns out well.
Steeping the fruit for tomorrow as l type
@@thomasevans1728 Brilliant stuff! 💪🏻
@@irishbakerabroadit turned out perfect , cheers for the recipe.
@@thomasevans1728 Delighted. Thanks for making it! 😊
Can i skip the guiness and whisky. What would be a good replacement?
You can just use tea. So 300ml of tea total 😊
Chris if u don't use the Guinness do u use extra tea ??
Seen someone else asked, all sorted than u
@@sheilawhelan2364 Exactly 👌🏻😊

@@irishbakerabroad well, we'll forgive ya for that, I suppose 😂
Has to be Barry's ❤
Needs a wee bit of Kerrygold to finish it off ☘🧈
👌🏻😋
Where is recipe
It’s written in the description underneath the video ☘️
It's boiled raisin cake
This, my good sir, is a terrible recipe. I made it and it was bin bound unfortunately. I love Barnbrack and make it on the regular and this is my first non-success. Sorry!
@@shasha3able Well this is also my first non-success story. I’ve people posting their great results on the Facebook page constantly. Also stating that they bake it regularly now so I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Sorry it didn’t work out for you
@irishbakerabroad Youre not sure what I'm taking about?? Its ok to have one non-success you know, don't take it personally.
@@shasha3able Yeah. You’re calling something that works for so many people terrible. So I’m not sure what you’re on about 👍🏻
Maybe it's not the recipe but the cook, sometimes things that work for most don't work for some, my sister used this recipe and it turned out beautifully so now it's my turn.
