EXCELLENT! Referencing studies certainly ADDS credibility. Analyzing this clients rides over a short time, and how it affected him was AWESOME. I had been a regular listener a couple years ago, I left since your show was highlighting “your own” experiences. Now referencing studies, and clients is FANTASTIC!
@TrainerRoad Wow. Haven't even watched yet. Saw the post on my X feed and was shocked ... that's me! Thank you for this. Excited to listen to your feedback.
For anyone interested in giving blood but not having performance deficits a great alternative is to donate platelets! Takes about 2 hours (can read/watch tv etc) as compared to whole blood in much less time but it’s a great option to give back and then do threshold un-impeded the next day!
Coming to the realization that unless it's explained to me via yacht / backcountry ski metaphor, I don't want to hear it. Moustache definitely boosts credibility.
I was thinking how valuable the opinion of coach Chad would be in these analysis. I wish he came back to the podcast. Great series. Please, keep up with it. It would be also interesting to see the case of a successful athlete
Jon - it may have occurred to you but GP Lama lives in Ballarat, outside of Melbourne. A Shane Miller - Jonathan Lee mash up ride would be a classic! Also, more Zwift race analysis please!!!
I find it that even that 30 minutes is too much because it's high endurance low tempo forr me and then I Struggle for my Sweet spot dayy after so now I will just take rest day and see how that goes.
If you guys want to do a Zwift race review you can always pick apart my rides. I stream them from time to time. Time trials, points races, ladder races, team time trials, and scratch races.
Why does your family say you don't take recovery seriously enough? Until a few months ago, I did more strength training ... a lot more. I used to do 200 push-ups, 200 v-ups, and 40 pull-ups before breakfast ... every day. In 2022, I began having issues with the connecting tissues in my joints. Then I switched to mixed calisthenics. By July of 2024, I was doing an hour workout, with no rest between sets, 6 days a week. I stopped to improve the recovery for my cycling training to meet our A race goal.
Weight - My "Race weight" is 60 kg. My ordinary weight is 61 - 62 kg. In February 2024, we switched to a keto / carnivore diet with 1 24 hour fast per week. I struggled to maintain weight. When I hit 57 kg, we dropped the weekly fast.
Blood donation- I donate every 8 weeks. I have a trainerroad forum post detailing it. The percentages are what to turn my HIIT sessions down to. My endurance rides I usually just leave at 100%, and try to give an accurate RPE.
Avid TR user for years, and my FTP is still creeping upwards (the days of big changes are probably older). I'm always looking for other perspectives to integrate into my training. So, based on another YT coach recommendation, I'm now doing Endurance-Hard-Endurance for Tu-W-Th block, then Hard-Endurance for Sa-Su block. I do upper body weight training (with a couple whole body sets) on Tu-Th-Su. I'd be interested to hear the Jonathan's and Nate's take on that...or if anyone else has thoughts, I'd be interested to hear them.
Im a 60+ amateur. I recently went vegeterian to lose weight. Id like to get to 85 kg from 90. What I found was that my AD went hyperbolic. My mind is like a washing machine full of garbage. This made me think back. I grew up on a farm. We had steaks 3 times a week. We raised chickens for our own use. When I left for college in the big city, I was eating cafeteria food. I had difficulty adjusting to city life. I suspect the change in diet was a factor.
I have experienced significant mental health improvements going keto. It may have performance issues, but I'm not looking to trade performance for my other health improvements. That said, I am looking to maximize what is possible.
@@pecangrower i do Lifting in the Morning and cycling in the evening on tuesdays. Monday and wednesday fighting only, thursday Lifting and fighting. So friday would be my cycling only day and Rest over the Weekend but TR Started to Mark Fridays as Red days. Maybe removing TSS Stats from the non cycling workouts 🤷♂️
TrainerRoad will adjust to make your workouts appropriately difficult, so you won't have to worry about them being too hard, and then you'll recover more in between as well, so you'll likely find them easier!
for your peaks ride, I really feel that your underestimating what your up against. sure you can estimate by the numbers, but you really need to consider the weather that can occur at that time of year. it can make or break you.
I mean, I'm pretty terrified of that ride, so not sure I'm underestimating it, lol. To your point, the weather looks to be all over the place and severe. Will be a wild ride! - Jonathan
Hi there!!! Great podcast with very interesting stuff!! I'm wondering cause I would like to subscribe for Trainer road soon, Does Trainer road analyse all your workouts you have done on the past ( around a year or so)? Thanks in advance.
@TrainerRoad pulled my data from Strava. I had to manually input my past changes in FTP. I think it took a day or two. I don't recall if I had to click something to initiate the process. It was easy though.
I was just diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis and am very interested in the iron and blood draw information w/rt training and recovery. I'm in the phase where we're trying to get my levels down to 'normal'. In the blood draw article, did they talk about how much was being donated? 500ml?250? Other? Wondering how the quantity impacts the performance.
Love the pod guys. New subscriber to TrainerRoad.. I’m riding a few ultra events this year between 600k - 1000k. What would the best way to enter these events into the calendar be? I’ve currently set them out as a stage race , with 1 stage per day I expect to be riding, moderate intensity and set the ride time to the maximum I expect to be on the bike per day… Given the unique demand of these events, would the AI software be able to set a suitable training and recovery plan based on this, given that there is no “ultra” event option given… Thanks
I’m from an Orlando and I rent road bikes and smart trainers, and you will be amazed how many cyclists rent them when they come to Disney to keep their training plan.
Only when @TrainerRoad tells me to stand ... for the most part. If I've been Z2 for an hour, my sitbones need a bit of rest. Zwift races are at 100% trainer difficulty, so they are very dynamic.
Another great podcast with useful and relatable information. Just donated blood myself a couple weeks and added the note. I also added it as a reason a work out felt too hard too. Maybe add it to the fixed note options and things to help feed the machine. 🥄

Glad you're back!
I love these real life scenario breakdowns so much more then the super sciencey deep dives into some obscure topic
Glad you enjoy them!
Agreed 👍🏼
100%. These are great. Love them!

I enjoy both. Find one helpful from a scientific understanding and this helpful from a coaching/analysis/planning perspective.

Okay, okay...I get it, I need to accept the 30 minute recovery rides rather than try and lengthen them.
Filed under things that are easy to understand but hard to do 😭

great episode gents, really useful to all TR users
Glad you enjoyed it
Answering the questions from the @TrainerRoad team .... (I will try to answer any questions posted here also)

Iron supplements- I have been taking 40 MG per day. After my last blood donation, I switched to 20 MG.
Hotel Peleton - So ... if we drive, we take the bike and trainer. I flew, so ... trainerroad said I was supposed to ride those days. 😂
still waiting on that TR + Zwift integration 🤞
Oh man, I am jonesing for that. I can finally stop running two programs to do 1 workout.
Both companies are hard at work on it! :)

Same Problem here. I do Fighting, Lifting and cycling. Should i really replqce one of my 2 cycling Trainings with a rest day when TR recommends it?
I will start combining my hard efforts on the same day this weekend. I will let you know how it works out.
Hard days harder .... oof. Gonna be rough.

Nice episode.
Because i'm almost 70😊!!!
Hi there!!!
Great podcast with very interesting stuff!!
I'm wondering cause I would like to subscribe for Trainer road soon,
Does Trainer road analyse all your workouts you have done on the past ( around a year or so)?
Thanks in advance.
Yes. I uploaded years of ride data. I subscribed last June, but Nate was able to see my training volume for multiple years.
@pecangrower And how you do it ?
You just subscribe and sync all your third party accounts on it (garmin,Strava, Training peaks etc.) And boom?
@TrainerRoad pulled my data from Strava. I had to manually input my past changes in FTP. I think it took a day or two. I don't recall if I had to click something to initiate the process. It was easy though.

Hey, I’m cycling and climbing. It would be really nice if TR could estimate TSS or fatigue from the climbing workout from Garmin data
You're getting older and You're not a pro You have a job & family 😊
It's too early for this much truth 🫠

I reckon those cadence drops are due the them standing up for the kick and wanting more resistance? standing at 90 cadence is horrible
Yup, that was it. I heard Nate's advice though, and will look to keep my cadence higher as long as I have the gears to do it.
I recently watched a video about world tour teams adopting AI. Most of the images of their AIs were actually just TR.
Link?
would like to see that
Also keen to see this one! :)
Seems odd that their strength training time is less than the total sets. Which means they are not resting or they are counting wrong
Yup, 10 seconds rest. That's wrong. I'm going to be changing that. (But it did make it easier to fit the workouts into my morning)

Thank you, fellow yacht-person 🤣

I’m doing weight training on day before off day they always trigger a red day so business as usual
Hook up with knights of suburbia in Melbourne for a group ride
I'm sure the low cadence sections were standing..

Now that I have watched it .... yes, I was out of the saddle for those race efforts.
For me the tr ai is a load of bull. It replaces all my intervals with recovery because it thinks I'm over training which I'm not.
Can we review your account?? :)
#makereddaysgreatagain
Oh no! That made me LOL, but I think I need #reddayshame
Blood donation - LOL. I guess he’s on TRT and needing to give blood to reduce his hematocrit level
Nope, no doctor orders. Just giving the gift of life. 6x a year for quite some time now. I think I'm around the 5 gallon mark.
What did this guy do correctly? Bad example to relate to…
first
Really, what crit was it that you came in first ☺️
