I have had a 4 volume set gifted to me over 10 years ago and it has just collected dust. Thank you for this video. I have been needing this video just for setup and it so much more helpful than the guide books I have purchased. I am jacked. God Bless you.
I’m so grateful to have found this video. It’s by far the best explanation of how this works for me, as a member of the laity, who wants to strengthen my prayer life. Thank you 🙏🏻
I have listened to several videos about how to pray “The Liturgy of the Hours”. Even took a class. I keep trying to find one I can understand. FINALLY!!! This is a clear not-condescending video. Easy to follow. It shouldn't be that hard but it's usually presented by someone who thinks you know how to navigate the books. This is a basic introduction. So glad I kept looking.
It is a beautiful prayer...you will most surely enjoy the journey in your growth in prayer life. The best part is that at each hour you join thousands of many catholics saying the exact same prayer to our Lord. Awesome.
This was soooooo helpful, thank you for taking the time to go over this! I've watched so many other videos where they just start flipping around the Brievary, thinking that you've been in a Religious order all your life. Nope, I needed it broken down simple, Barney style so I could understand it. I'm catching on. Peace be with you!
I’ve been praying from the Christian prayer for a month or so now, and am still learning but I love it. I wonder sometimes is it bad to be doing it wrong, but I do wake up to myself and remember that following Christ is all that matters so I’m just in love
I've been praying morning and evening prayers with an app on my phone and have decided to continue my prayer life using the actual books. I just purchased book 4 which arrived last night :) and intending to look for a good video this morning I prayed that I find something helpful and your video popped up first in line! What a blessing to find your video which is set in practically the exact time in the liturgical season as we are today. A nice answer to prayer. God bless you and keep you and thanks for your channel.
This has been the most helpful video I've seen. I find the breviary so confusing yet I want to pray it (at least morning and evening). I've been using the app on my phone but I'd really like to use the books. Thanks Again!!
Thank you so much for this video. I have been trying to find one that truly explains how to use the LOH and as I am in the very beginning of this process. This has been most helpful. I have subscribed since you are so thorough. This is definitely a marathon and not a sprint.
It's not in the Bible to pray for the dead except to raise them from the dead only. If God doesn't revive the deceased, then we must focus on the living. Psalm 146:4 Ecclesiastes 9:5
I've been looking for a summary and your presentation is the best I've seen. It's honest in giving examples of complexities, and it provided a good start to understanding what's going on. I want to grapple with the complexity and not suffer alienation from a software version; often I've found joy is proportional to struggle and in will you will find unexpected blessings that will inure to desire.
I'm writing down notes, I have this book that's a guide to LOTH, watching a video. Start, stop, rewind, look to the front, hit start, hit stop, lol. In sure having the St. Josephs guide for this year would help....but its in the mail. This was a great video though. Got the ribbons in place, so I got farther than expected. I'm not giving up on this like I hear a lot of people do. I'm in it and into it. Ill pray for wisdom!!!!! Thanks again for a great video! God Bless!
As a Catholic Christian, I too practice praying the Liturgy of the hours. Even though I don't belong to any monastic order. A friend of mine who happens to be a Catholic seminary student and is in the process of becoming a Catholic priest and he introduced me into praying Liturgy of the hours.
I bought the single volume Christian Prayer book and I’m totally overwhelmed. I wanted to pray the Liturgy of the Hours as one of my Lenten promises but I’m so frustrated. I feel like I’m usually a smart girl but this makes me feel stupid while I try to navigate it. Even watching this very thorough, well explained video, I’m lost...
GaryPeterson67 So I have it figured out now. Do yourself a favor and download the app “Podbean” which is podcast app. Then search in Podbean for “Divine Office - Liturgy of the Hours.” They have each prayer broken down and they pray it aloud, but they have listed in the description where to put your ribbons for both the 4 volume and single volume, and it’s broken down into each prayer of the day. Then you just follow along in your book. After a few days of doing it, you’ve got it!!! It made all the difference in my learning it.
@@sarahsunshine78 just downloaded it, looks like it will really help because it is all laid out for me, and then I'll just work backwards to my Breviary - thank you!
I left the Catholic church because they do not match the Bible and all the child abuse. The rosary as penance in rapid succession is forbidden. Matthew 6:7. I pray the Psalms three times a day as described in Psalm 55;17. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.
Be sure to use the “Outline of each Hour” Prayer Cards that came with your Breviary! If you don’t have them contact Catholic Book Publishing! Most of all be patient; it’s not hard as it seems!
This is a very helpful video. Would you consider making an instructional video like this on how to use the "Christian Prayer" book (one volume liturgy of the hours book)? I'm looking for videos etc, and having a hard time figuring that book out.

Hi Jennifer, let me recommend this book: "The Divine Office for Dodos". This book will walk you through the Liturgy of the Hours (the single or 4 volume set). It's a work book that will walk you through the hours with excellent examples. Peace.
I just found book 2 at a really affordable price at a second hand book store and am taking it as a sign that maybe I should start praying the LoH but it’s really confusing! Thank you for making this video
I just recently started doing the LotH and have a question about the different “crosses”. I understand the “plus sign” crosses mean to do the Sign of the Cross but what about those which actually look like the Cross and the end of a text line? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I suggest saying that the reason the Sunday evening prayer has 2 options is because it is based on the structure of a day as seen in the book of Genesis.

You probably won't see this but I'm just getting started but I have one issue...I can't find the concluding prayer to use. As a reference, we are in Lent (Thursday after Ash Wednesday) and I was looking for the Midday closing prayer. The psalmity says to pray the conclusion as in the ordinary. So i flip to the ordinary and it doesn't have a concluding prayer. It just says after concluding prayer...
I left the Catholic church because they do not match the Bible and all the child abuse. I pray the Psalms as described in Psalm 55:17. I learned more about the Holy Spirit just by praying freestyle without the Rosary. John 14:16-17
Unfortunately the official prayer is officially too complicated for me. I admit I’m not the brightest tool in the box and I’ve studied the one volume version greatly I’m aware it differs in the UK and the closest I can get to understanding this is via the app Universalis it places everything for that day before you. And I find switching in the app the little switching that needs doing to be complicated enough. The Daily Prayer book by Collins just sits gathering dust because it doesn’t matter how many times someone tries to explain it, I just don’t get it at all. To me and I appreciate you done your best but again it just doesn’t make any sense whatsoever to me. I much prefer the rosary it’s easy enough to learn and there’s no flipping through a huge book with not a clue what’s going on. The meditations for the rosary make sense and as unfortunate as it is I’ve really given up trying to figure this divine office out. On and off I’ve tried for about two years like I said it just doesn’t make sense to me at all. ☹️ UPDATE: 10th May 2020 I have made great progress in understanding the one volume book. Not dabbled in the office of readings yet from the three volume set. But I’m extremely happy with the progress I’ve made even if it’s taken me three years lol
I use the UK edition also. My friend I highly recommend you only pray night prayer (Compline) as it's by far the easiest hour to follow and pray and nothing changes in regard to feast or saint days. Sunday is Sunday etc and very Simple. Then at a later date you can give the hour hours a go.
I share in your🎉joy!! I myself have just started learning and praying the LOTH- about a year now; very steep learning curve for me, am still at the bottom but not giving up.
