I just got mine last week. I got the HSS style, in gloss black, with a black pick guard. Tuned it up, and wow! I was impressed.

People coming up in our day are so privileged to be able to buy a cheap lower-end guitar and have something really nice it seemed like the cheap guitars back in the 70s and 80s when I was developing a love affair with guitar are so much better then what seemed to be around back in the early 80s. Now I love the Japanese guitars and stuff and the fender Japanese guitars are still quite awesome and I think a better guitar than the American made fenders in my opinion. But these squires are just knocking it out of the park man and Dave you're the man to do the demo, cheers my friend.

By far the best review of a piece of cheap affordable gear I have ever seen. I loved your enthusiasm and your playing. Close your eyes and you would think you were hearing a vintage Strat through a Marshall Plexi. Keep at it!

When Dave says "people of the tube" it could only mean what its intended to cos being a proper chap from 'Up North' our Dave and his fellow 'proper lads n lasses' dont have tube trains. They're for 'southern girls party dresses' and 'pink skipping ropes' from 'darn sarf'. Up here if you go underground you come back covered in coal dust. "Whats happening?!" with the extensive tremolo travel is probably that the smaller bridge block on these, as on Floyd's, allows more block clearance for more travel. I think that every time i see a smaller bridge block, as in, it has its advantages too.

The video you did a few years ago of that red Squier Bullet Strat unboxing and first impressions was one of the best videos you ever put out IMO. I was actually stunned you sold it. This one seems to be a good one too. I honestly think there is something about the thinner lightweight bodies of the Bullet/Sonic series that works really well when you get a good one. I sense there's something with the sustain of this one too, just like the red one. There's something to it.
I also REALLY enjoyed the sound of the room miking instead of a close miked cab as well. It just has a better sense of in-the-room realism and sounds so much more true to life, as well as more tonally and dynamically ALIVE. I'd love to see more reviews recorded like this. Overall, I'm glad this guitar helped to brighten your day a little bit. Good stuff all around, Dave! Cheers.

"HAPPY NEW GUITAR BRO !", great video. Your excitement and enthusiasm is inspiring. The way Squier have come along is amazing and it's about time that they showed the budget series some love as these are usually the Guitars beginners get and a bad guitar is hard to play and people give up learning based on this finding. That one sounds great and your playing is awesome.... P.S.Is that an Epiphone '67 re issue flying V I see in the background ?.

I've got a bullet tele and an affinity jazzmaster, both great, play great ,sound great.
The jazzmaster stays in tune no matter what.
The wood on the tele neck was rough as balls, so i sanded it 400, 600,800,1200, and linseed oiled the fretboard.
The person that cut the nut on the jazzmaster should be sent to fender in the US to show the people there how to do it.

Very nice! Sounds great. Obvious pleasure trying it out there and of course able to make it sing even without a setup. The sign of a talented player for sure. I'm still thankful to you for helping me decide to grab a Squier CV in the first vid of yours I ever came across. Now those DO have lacquered necks! 😁 Certainly my 60 does. I quite like that really although it obviously doesn't have that same silky feel of, say, the Affinity range or apparently this one. Thanks again Dave, and sorry to hear you'd had a bad head day - but great to know the unboxing and review/tryout helped with that. Take good care now!

any squier guitar can play like a fender with a set up and some new pickups squiers are amazing as base building guitars even the classic vibes are perfect on their own and need little to no adjusting for perfect playability strongly reccomend squiers to beginners they last forever and never fail you just a workhorse guitar you can beat up and play

As a matter of interest, DV247 has this in Arctic White for £147.
Just be grateful you're right handed, Dave. If you're left handed, you get the Henry Ford (or Pink Floyd) treatment on this guitar - "Any colour you like..." (Being black, black or black...)
I recently bought a left-handed Player Plus, which was available in triple sunburst, 3 colours of sunburst, or sunburst in three colours.
What I'd give to be right-handed when it comes to guitars. (Mind, the sunburst came with a mint green pickguard, which is a finish I really love...)

Oh, the strings..my buddy asked if I could set them up tighter. One it's my mom Jimi Hendrix strat, but a different new set was all the difference. Not a pack of "tighter strings" I've used PRS 9.5-? 10-? Other brands slinky's everything was better than strings that came on. I can't wait until you come by on the trip you planned to check out my @home rig with 1, 12in celestion in an amp.. thanks for offering the trip to the bottom of Illinois. Wink🎉🎉. Would have 2 whole friends that would be excited ( they not only playing, but 100x betterholla back. I feel so much like you in that my new guitar selection has became cheaper than what I already have, as in brands not heard of axl and S.., well starts with S I've saw you play them and like them. I've had to give up close to 10 in the last 2 yrs. Still have an EPI, 2 ones made in Korea and kills foretal, I have a Vintage 52 Tele I absolutely love, and the mim Fender Jimi Hendrix Olympic white strat, but am always looking and it's like 👀 guitar or amp, or pedal. Squier has really upped their game in the last 8 years. They're basically the equivalent of Mexican made Fenders of the mid 90's. Squiers back then were total firewood. Ever since the Classic Vibe series, I've purchased quite a few basses & guitars. Some were modded while others were perfectly fine as-is. Great value!!!

    • @craigpimlott204

Great honest from the box demo Dave. Squier seem to be really getting their act together on price to lure you in without just turning out stuff thats pretty, but a pointless poor quality instrument. These are not just for beginners, we are all lucky to have some great affordable guitars out there these days. No excuses now for folk not to just grab a guitar and have a lot of fun. "The world's worst knuckle duster" 😁 - I like how you thought the glaring joins of the three pieces were cool, while I have seen videos of people sending the instrument back for less. (Note to them, it's the playability not the aesthetics that makes it a great instrument).
This Squire certainly sound authentically Strat to my ears. No pedals! Way to go to demonstrate an instrument and adding dirt through the amp only really helps the assessment too.

i really enjoyed this video, i have a squier standard stratocaster, maybe it isnt the best of the guitars out there but it is really comfortable to play. despite people often saying that squier sucks i find them pretty solid in terms of construction and tone especially if you are someone that is in a budget and you're trying to find a guitar. I don't really have much to say about it besides the brown shell pickguard peeling off and the tuning heads being kinda stiff (i hope i find a solution for that lol)

Its hard to fathom how they can produce these guitars for the price, when you consider that everyone in the chain has to get some sort of profit. From the manufacturer, to the store, and all the transport workers in between.
My 1st guitar back in the 80s cost me $515 Australian. We didn't have access to guitars of the quality of today for anything much cheaper.

Now I miss my Strat. My first Electric Guitar was a Squire Strat that came in a bundle from Sam Ash. My dad got it for me back in 2003 and It served me well, till I was given an hss Strat that belonged to someone who kicked the bucket.

I have played the white one and it's also a nice one.
Fortunately I can control the urge to increase my collection 😂
Can't wait to see if that wax will darken the neck. 👍🏻🤘🏻

Firstly I love maple necks but the really white ones remind me of me sunbathing with my reddish hair. I look lIke a Swan Vestas match. So I would give that a coat of something to make it less anemic looking. But yeah, some of these budget guitars seem to have a great set up including some of mine. You keep hearing more expensive guitar makers say we can't roll the edges and nor can we do time consuming set ups cause that would add to the cost of the guitar. Well obviously not true when budget guitars can do it. I got a Fender made in Mexico Player Strat, and it's great now that I have set it up myself and polished frets etc, but for the price! Your talking best part of 800 quid and the set up was lousy and the 13th fret was higher then me smoking my first ever joint - allegedly! I have never seen a fret that high. Guitar was unplayable quite honestly. Out with the fret file, set up done and it now plays like a dream, well it would if somebody else was playing it but that's another story!

Hi Dave, you saying that squier guitars have wide necks, I got an early 90’s Japanese butterscotch tele squier and the neck on it is georgous to play, very narrow ,very resonant, just a lovely guitar to play, the pick ups on it were proper shite,so I swapped them out for some 51 no caster pups, I actually prefer my squier to the USA 75th anniversary tele I have, I find the neck too wide on that one,, im just saying that squier guitars are pretty decent, can I recommend a guitar for you to try out.Its a gretsch G6128 , the cliff gallup signature guitar, I think they’re about £2,500-ish, but gretsch do the electromatic version too, about £450, absolute unit of a guitar. Looks too much like a les paul for my liking but cliff gallup is a guitar god for me.He was brilliant, check it out mate.. nice one👍

If you want to pay shipping, ill send you a squier neck with a 40.7mm nut. Its from a 05 affinity. Its a really narrow neck with the older style thin profile. If you want it. Btw, it does have what im told is a real rosewood board.
