    The long term implications are why my son sat out 2 months after a similar ankle strain. It's been almost two years and no reoccurrences. I'm convinced Doncic and his great future need to be protected from chronic issues. They should keep him out of the lineup for AT LEAST A MONTH especially since the team seems to play well anyway without him in the lineup. However I have a feeling it's going to be a tough battle keeping this young stud off the court.

      Very happy to hear that you were proactive in your son's recovery and he hasn't suffered any re-injury since. I see so many athletes who come back too soon and pay for it, whether through over reinjury or persistent symptoms.

    He had X-rays an hr later and it came out negative. It’s not a grade two. He shed the boot within 12 hrs and was shooting jumpers and doing half court sprints the next day. He doesn’t even have tape on his ankle anymore. He looks good to go. It’s looking like he’ll be back December 22 or sooner.

      As I said in the video, the x-rays don't tell us anything about severity, that's only assessing for fibular fracture. For jumpers and sprints, that's all straight line movement. For example, as I said in the video, he was already running on the underwater treadmill at halftime. The key will be how he responds to lateral movement and the key research proven tests I included in the video. He very well could be back sooner rather than later because - again as I said in the video - there's no hard and fast rule for diagnosing ankle sprain severity.

    In terms of reputation, the Mavericks have maybe the best medical staff in the league. I'd definitely have trust in their assessment for how long to keep him out. Dirk Nowtizki twisted, sprained, everything his ankles regularly, and played for 20 years.

    Also I heard Doncic had a previous ankle sprain (don't know which foot). But I don't know if we could say this one was influenced by the previous one considering how bad he stepped. Almost anyone would get a sprain with such an action no matter of the history.

    • @3cbperformance
      @3cbperformance  4 роки тому

      I'm not exactly sure of his previous history. This was definitely unfortunate because he stepped on someone's foot - like you said,

    • @dundalis
      @dundalis 4 роки тому

      I'm pretty sure it was the other foot, and it was when he was like 16 or something.

    Do you think that if MAVS wait until they play out Doncic, those long-term risks will be diminished? I mean, its an ankle sprain, he should not have chronic issues?

    • @3cbperformance
      @3cbperformance  4 роки тому

      Just need to make sure he's completely ready to go. I'm not sure what you mean by the last line but chronic issues with ankle sprains are far more prevalent than people realize

    I had several times the same injury, even within high-tops. It took me most of the time a month to start to play again, and even more, to be 100% confident in the ankle, as the fear of re-injury is strong.

    • @3cbperformance
      @3cbperformance  4 роки тому +2

      Don't worry about high vs low tops as there's no evidence supporting high tops prevent sprains. However, an ankle brace - esp a lace up brace - is proven to help reduce re-injury risk and I recommend them in the short term after a sprain. Hopefully you're feeling close to 100% mentally and physically now.

    I'm kind of shocked that most players today, wear below ankle sneakers. After spraining my ankles many times in high-tops, I began wearing a plastic insert inside my snrakers. The ankle support boot that came with the inserts were to panful to wear tightened up. Once I used only the plastic insert, I never had an ankle sprain again.
    Thanks 3CB Performance. Another excellent video.

    • @3cbperformance

      There's no evidence showing that high vs low top sneakers makes a difference. However, using a brace (as you mentioned, I think) can be helpful although I personally don't like relying on that
