Five Weeks

Geer knew Five Weeks had to be an immersive and all-consuming experience, to really put her viewer in the headspace of her strung out mother, and she achieves this through long, intense takes, making us feel as if we’re at Jen’s side for the entire duration of the film. But, it’s Smith’s performance that truly stands out. Her depiction of a woman teetering on the edge is so authentic that it elicits genuine empathy for Jen. Every strained conversation, every attempt to hold back tears, urges viewers to root for her, willing her to ask for help, as she grapples with the challenges every new mother faces. - S/W Curator, Rob Munday

Wow, that was visceral. I can totally appreciate her position. What an incredible piece of acting. Really well done. Fantastic. It was quite gut-wrenching at times. Superb.
Absolutely phenomenal! Captures anxiety erupting into panic so well in addition to that feeling of being trapped with no escape that parenthood sometimes causes. Brill acting too and was a great watch!
Disturbing. All mothers hit that moment. It's like another already said..REACH OUT.. we've all been there, we all understand !! Well, 99percent, anyway. Reach out..your baby matters more than anyone else,! And YOU matter too!! Take comfort..give comfort :) ❤
Wow. Another amazing performance by Esther Smith. This reminded me of a much darker version of her role in the “Trying” TV show, but pretty much the opposite experience.
Simply phenomenal and well executed film in all aspects! Hats off to the entire team for this masterpiece!
This made me so sad but really drove home how post partum can be
Amazing woman respect 😍
women are amazing!
Beautifully done
That supermarket scene had to be shot on anamorphic lenses to get that type of depth of field, right? Curious which lens was used.
Don't have specific info on the lenses used, but this is what director Geej told us about the shoot:
"We planned to shoot a lot of it in long held, intense takes, to really feel that we’re with Jen throughout the film, and make it as intense an experience for the viewer as it is for her. That came with it’s own set of difficulties as it meant we weren’t covering lots of scenes from multiple angles, so we really had to nail all elements in every take."
Great Film
