@@BrandonLikesMovies Hey Brandon, if you thought this movie was stressful, you absolutely must watch "Victoria" (2015), the entire 2h20mins film was shot in one take.
@@MMCLLC7 I felt the same way. I guess in Good Time, even though the main character is still an asshole, he's doing all he can for his brother, so there's that, whereas with Uncut Gems, Sandler is just an asshole and only cares for the money while fucking up everyone around him. Selfless in one, selfish in another, in my opinion, so I guess we can relate more with the character that's actually trying to do something good.
Adam Sandler was robbed of an Oscar for this movie. One of the most convincing performances I've ever seen. The Safdies are masters of controlled chaos.

It's amazing how so many people describes this as stressful and anxiety inducing because that's exactly how I felt when watching it as well. The film makers really knew what they were doing.
I saw this at a sold out showing st Toronto International Film Fest and when that shot gets fired the whole crowd gasped, laughed and went dead silent.
Howie is one of my favorite protagonists ever. I found myself both rooting for him and rooting against him at different times. He’s so likable but his decisions are so painful to watch. Amazing character.
@@dylanjordan4747 Connie was so interesting because the first time I watched Good Time I hated Connie but upon rewatch I really got a better sense of how much he cares for his brother and I was like conflicted about how I felt about him after that lol
This movie captures gambling addiction so well and is a great character study on that type of personality - speaking from experience as someone with a family member who ripped everyone off, including his employers, wife, kids etc... it's frighteningly accurate.
yeah it's awesome, it also really lends to the film grounding itself in the 2012 setting, like a snapshot of the moment where the weeknd was first booming in popularity and KG was prominent in the scene, it feels genuine
I watched that for the first time last week and loved it. Not only is he amazing in it, but Paul Thomas Anderson’s direction is some of the best I’ve ever seen
Uncut Gems is one of the best theatre experiences I've ever had. I was in a packed theatre on opening weekend and when Howard gets shot at the end the entire theatre gasped at once and people had their hands on their heads in disbelief. What a movie!
One of the most stressful movies I’ve ever seen. Thank you for all your reactions Brandon, whenever I see them pop up at the top of my screen always puts a smile on my face 😁
Howard's death was like combination of Leo getting capped in The Departed and Leo getting capped in Django Unchained. The shooter just couldn't help himself.
The perfect ending to a flawed but charismatic Character. Howard is an addictive gambler and would have bet the money away he just won. He went out with the biggest win and a smile on his face. He would have wound up in the same predicament in the future. Addiction is a tough thing to break, and you could tell Howard would never be cured from his downward spiral with gambling. One of my favorite films of 2019. Great reaction.
He managed to die content with himself in that moment with a smile still on his face, finally becoming free from all the stress in death. It's kind of the best he could have gotten.
@@professionalmemeenthusiast2117 exactly. His life style would have led him to his death in this way sooner or later. At least he went out with the biggest win of his anxiety ridden life.
Every time I've watched this movie with someone their reaction has either been "Oh my God, that was so stressful, I hated it" or "Oh my God, that was so stressful, I loved it". Never anything in between.
HANDS DOWN one of the best movie theatre experiences I have had. I mean right from the start of this movie you are thrown into Howie's spiral into madness. I was having straight anxiety up until he got wacked at the end, and by the time the catchy techno music was playing during the credits, I felt like it was a transition back into reality/ a reward for sitting through a bad nightmare. Genius movie, and a killer soundtrack, the Safdie bro's and Sandler were robbed of Oscars that year! Love your channel Brandon! Would love to see a reaction of "Garden State" soon.
Im so proud ur channel is really blowing up Brandon! You really deserve this I’ve been watching your channel for almost a year now and you’re definitely my favorite channel :)
Great reaction vid. Uncut Gems was my #3 movie of 2019, behind Parasite and Jojo Rabbit. btw, There's a theory that at the end of the movie, Arno's two henchmen were trapped in the gem shop because they couldn't get the door open to leave (you see Arno himself couldn't open it). The theory says that since they couldn't leave, they were eventually arrested.
And I love that the movie didn't show them both realise getting stuck in the store, and left that for the audience to think about. I mean what the hell where they two thinking. Lol
I was in awe and silence in a packed theater in NYC, when Sandler breaks down in the last act and completely comes alive when he see an angle to go big and win. I would teach those learning films, that's acting right there. To become immersed into the character and have it become a part of who you are. Absolute underrated gritty NYC crime drama gem from up and coming talented filmmakers.
I remember watching this in theatres. One of the best cinematic experiences ever, a non-stop and adrenaline-fueled thrill-ride. Sandler's snub is the biggest in Oscar history IMO.
Kevin Garnett just saw his whole life flash when he looked at the opal at close up. That's why he was obsessed with it and reminded him of everything he had been through. In one of the image flash you can see himself dressed as a miner at some stage of his life.
i saw this opening night in theaters. i was leaned forward in my seat during the climax and when he got shot i literally jolted back and covered my mouth w my hands lmao. there were so many gasps in that room lol
Their film Heaven Knows What is solid. Kind of a spotlight on a very tragic group of people, that you pass by everyday. It's noble in that regard. Seeing this movie in a theater with an audience mainly of teenagers was amazing. Slowly and slowly they started paying less attention to their phones and more attention to the film.
This is an absolute masterpiece of a movie, and I'm saying that as somebody who usually can not abide to watch Adam Sandler. I only gave it a shot, originally, because it's an A24 film and to say I was pleasantly surprised is a vast understatement. The level of tension this film manages to create so early on and then to hold it for the rest of the running time? Insane.
I have been looking so forward to this one for so so so long since last summer which was the biggest vibe ever, and now we finally got it. I adore this, thanks so much Brandon
I actually think that the ending is kind of bittersweet. Howard was addicted to gambling his money away, even though he won all that money, he would very likely still end up betting it all away even if he did use it to pay off his debts. So when he dies so suddenly, he never knows what even hit him. The whole movie is watching him get stuck in this pattern and he never breaks it. Every time he wins something, it makes him believe he can win more. After winning the big game, he would gamble it again hoping for a bigger reward, and likely lose it all. He died happy, after making the biggest win of his life against all odds, which would be tragic if he wasn't the type of character who would gamble all his success away if he had lived.
I'm not joking when I say this: but the face you made the moment he said "You stopped the bet?" That was exactly my reaction, only difference is my 'are you kidding me' was more aggressive. It's been a long time since a recent film can get you that invested.
Saw this on opening night at my local cinema; the entire audience groaned out loud when he says "Let's f*cking bet on this" to Garnett. Just a groan of disappointment in the man that continuously digs a hole for himself, deciding to dig a six foot grave instead.
