    Skiing is much easier to learn for sure. I started skiing after 12 years of boarding just for fun and it's great to be able to do both. A lot of the techniques are very transferable between the two. I don't think one is better than the other. They all have pros and cons and very condition dependent. I found I love skiing more in the morning when the snow is hard and fast. When the snow gets softer towards noon and afternoon, I like boarding hitting sidehits and park.

    After skiing and snowboarding for over 25 years, it wasn’t until last season that I started liking snowboarding over skiing. I think it’s great to be good at both and have the choice for whichever one you’re in the mood for (sometimes both in one day). It’s nice to ski with skiers and ride with riders. They’re similar, but two different activities to me.

    Loving your videos Bag o', I love that you ask the question in the beginning of the video and immediately answer it, after which you explain very well why. The build up of your videos is nice, clear and not too long. I like the way you use your own experience and make it very clear to understand how it feels to do the things you explain. Keep up the great work, my man!

    I've tried both. I'm from Brazil and living in Canada, and I had never seen snow until 2/3 years ago. My father-in-law is a skier, and he taught me both. I tried skiing first, but I kept falling because my feet were always positioned wrong and man the ski boots is so uncomfortable. With snowboarding though, I was able to stay up and ride down the bunny slope for at least 50-100 meters. I'm an intermediate snowboarder now. I can ride on blue runs, and this season, I'll try my first black run. This next season will be my second full season because I was introduced to skiing and snowboarding in March 2022 and only had about two months before the season ended.. I'm in my second board my first was Rossignol Evader and I bought Burton Custom full Camber

    It's crazy timing for me that you just put this out cause I was JUST having this discussion with a friend who's never done either (I've tried both). I totally agree with your assessment. Skiing just felt more intuitive for me, and I feel like it likely does for most people. Still enjoyed boarding too, but this is great advice for anyone consider which to try for the first time. Great vid man, now I can just refer newbies to this explanation lol

    Just started snowboarding at the beginning of this year. Never done any board related sports or skiing. It was really weird and difficult to keep your balance. And you keep looking at your feet. Now after a few times I kinda got the hang of it. I can do some basic turn, but still far from smooth.

    Skiing is easier - the downside? You’ll look like a fruit cup the whole time on the mountain twisting your hips like a princess
    Snowboarding downside? You’ll be stuck on the bunny hill for atleast 2 days

    I’ve been skiing for 24 years, and have the level 3 ski instructor degree in Austria. Have snowboarded for around 6 years as well. Skiing is definitely easier to learn, though skiing has a way higher skill level/ceiling than snowboarding. With snowboarding once you master carving, I would say the park is the next step

    • @_permanence
      @_permanence Місяць тому

      Nah. Snowboarding has a lot of nuance and snowboard masters are extremely rare. Just because someone can do a shit turn or even a carve, doesn’t mean they’re a master.

    The other point of skiing is the risk of injury.
    I see a lot of beginner skier being too confident too fast then they start to go at a speed that they cannot control. It resulted a nasty fall and they injuered their knees.
    Meanwhile when beginner snowboard, they fall very often and by that they start to develop the fear of falling also developing awareness of how to fall properly and in which speed is controllable.

    • @newagain9964

    Bro I love your content and thanks for making a great video..... but there is a difference between skidded and carved turns and calling skidded turns carves is a rookie mistake that matters. So many people learn to skid and think they are done learning and never get to carving.

  • @jeremybennett5547
    @jeremybennett5547 2 місяці тому +3

    As an observer I noticed when a snowboarder really carves they can lay almost complexity flat with the snow! Then come right out of it and go so fast while doing all this.
    I watched skiers carve and I would describe it as a bunny hopping back and forth in a field.
    Take a guess which looked more enticing and fun to me having never done both at the time😂
    Hint: I chose snowboarding and have no regrets.

    That double back flip without leaving the ground looked painful as hell! I've fallen backward downhill (no flip) and was too shell shocked to ride on my toe edge for the rest of the day. If that double back flip happened to me, I might not recover for the rest of the season!

    Skiing is easier because left and right is symmetrical. Any technique on the snowboard requires mastering on both heel and toe side separately

    I've been a skier ever science I was a little rat kid and last season I decided to start snowboarding. In my personal experience, snowboarding is a lot harder when you first start and gets exponentially easier to progress as you learn. Its a lot easier in my own personal experience to go from black to double black than from green to blue or blue to black on a snowboard. Because of this I was able to go from strait up beginner to expert in just a season. Skiing however, is the exact opposite and is really easy to teach beginners and my friends when they first start out but a lot harder to get them good enough to start hitting the big stuff. It also helps to be good at one or the other because you can take a lot of basic knowledge like edge transition, early edge engagement, and carving from one into the other. This my just my personal experience tho :/

    I thought for sure you were going to say snowboarding was easier. I was an expert skier and took a 3/4 day intro SB lesson. I flailed at first, as bad as my first day on skies, but by the end of the day I was doing swing turns down groomed black diamond runs. So my vote is SB is easier. Did I say I was also an accomplished surfer.
