Watching this after a few cheap movies on Netflix is like coming home. The acting is superb, the sets, the costumes, the direction and above all take note: The entire film describes one day, from morn till night in the lives of us common folk. Utterly believable.
Not sure it was a better place. There were still many problems and wars going on. Looking at things with Rose tinted glasses can play tricks on the memory. For many of us we were kids or young people at this time so didn't have many problems but for the older generations, they still did.
Yes, it was a better place despite all the problems. How can anyone say it is better now? Even yopung people hate the world today of wokeness greed and incompetence@@pigsymagic4741
These old films may not exactly be Oscar winning Hollywood classics but they bring back wonderful memories of better times when life was simple and a lot less stressful, No mobile phones or social media just people talking to each other in the street,
I miss the old-time films yes times were hard but people knew how to communicate and live a simple life . I was born the early 60s and remember the gatherings everyone pulled together ...not like now
Life would be simpler now if there wasn't all the computer technology. It's as if you sell your soul for less back pain. Yes, life was, to a certain degree, simpler. But the oncoming generations won't know the difference, just as we didn't know the difference between our "now" and the "then" of our predecessors.
I can state that this film was exactly how things were in England, in the early 1970s. I'm still not decided whether I liked this film or not but if anyone wants to know how the working class looked, spoke and lived at that time, this film is closer to the mark than anything else you'll see. Note that in the film, Irene Handl had a very pronounced London accent but in reality, she had an educated "posh" accent. I've seen her on the stage a few times and she never failed to impress.
What a lovely inoffensive film from a simpler time No violence, death and distruction. If I had a time machine, I would love to go back to the early 70's.
@@markbennett2170 Why on earth would @Michael Walton have said such a thing?! What a troll. ON behalf of the human race I apologise to you. I thought it a very sweer kind and thoughtful comment.
@@taras6806 It has me scratching my head too. It is so good to have your kind comments. It's troubling that we have people in society with this weird and angry view on life. I'm not religious but I will pray for him. x
There always seemed to be some party or get together going on just like this when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, great sense of community and family. Lovely film and lots of memories. Thanks for posting.
Love the simplicity of these old comedies from the past,....there seemed a more simpler wholesome down to earth feel to the humour in those times,...wonderful characters and great writing, gave the film a charm and a feel good vibe , that made them such a delight to watch....
Loved the 70’s because it was my era and there was a wealth of great programs, music and talented people without the aid of technology. I like a builders brew but with loose tea leaves in the teapot in a mug☕️👍
I feel like I've stumbled across a real gem of a film from yester-year, and I couldn't be happier. I enjoyed all the 'For The Love of Ada' TV programmes when they were shown in 70-71and the whole family would sit down to watch every time it was on. It was sweet, completely harmless and very popular. Take me back to a simpler, kinder time any day, and compared to some of the rubbish that purports to be entertainment on telly today, I'll happily watch these classic programmes all day, every day thanks. Made my day watching this, stepping back in time and taking a stroll down memory lane for a little while. You have a new subscriber! Thanks for uploading this 📺🎬📺
Takes you back to days when life was much more simple and straight forward - and no people getting outraged at everything - that hairdresser reminds me of when they opened a toppless male hairdressers in Paisley that would be about that period - wouldnt get away with that now a days
Most of the people of the world are now under some form of lockdown/ house arrest. This is cheering me up and taking me back to a happier, more uplifting world, when the government we're accountable to the people and put the British people first.
A lovely film, one of the best adaptations of a sitcom ever, with two of my favourite stars of TV and silver screen, Irene Handl and Wilfred Pickles. What a poignant line, when Irene talks about hoping they would both live to get a telegram from the Queen. Sadly, neither of them did, but at least Wilfred got an OBE. A great supporting cast too, including Arthur English, Jack Smethurst and the lovely Hilda Braid. Comedy at its best. Thanks again Flick Vault!
Yes my dad loved Irene handl in things on t.v, shame she passed away in 1987 but I remember her been on t.v a lot as a kid in metal mickey and other stuff..R.I.P to her and these beautiful times, I miss the old England so much..
Just started watching the TV series on DVD. What a great choice. Too young to have seen any of this on TV the first time or re-runs. Excellent acting, the warmth of the characters exude. Fabulous to find the film.
Delightful film, used to love the series on TV from the early '70s - gentle comedy and great memories of happier days in the community. Thank you so much Flick Vault...
That was lovely! I wish that there were still lovely do's like this happening today, wherein folks still sang ballads with decent heartfelt words and genuine sentiment. The world has changed into something cold and unrecognizable with complete lack of morals and benevolence.
Irene Handl is one of my totally favourite comedy actresses; and it upset me when she died. I first noticed this superb actress during the 1950's when I was a kid. She was a classic and a brilliant and a multi-talented woman. I wish I had met her very much.
Wish todays movies were more like this one with a good story and great acting. Lovely picture. Enjoyed this FLICK. Thank you so very much FLICK VAULT. Lovin it from across the pond here in Gatlinburg, TN U.S.A.

Thank you so much for posting this lovely movie and series. It cheers this lonely old romantic and gives me hope. So nice to see a real woman being positive and loved.
You are an absolute STAR for posting this - thank you, SO much :0) Irene Handl is one of my all-time favourite actresses of yesteryear. I've not seen a single thing with her in, that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. When you consider that her early years of fame were in the black & white era, having started out in later adulthood, that she, as what they'd called a character actor, became an older lady still & had feared that parts would dry up for her, to have something as wonderful as For The Love of Ada come along, it must have felt like winning the lottery. Then, she gave us a great turn in Metal Mickey! Joy! Becoming a household name across the generations is no mean feat. I will always love & miss her. So maternal, she'd had me wishing she was my mum, yet she, as I too, never married or had children. R.I.P. darling lady.
Well we had a life were people had nothing like we have today but got on with life without interfering or talking about crap that is meaningless..we have everything at the touch of a button but people making people incapable of living a life .. anyway film is a belter and watch these to give a nice feeling of happier times .. cheers

No there were other races in England at this time 1972, mainly from the Caribbean or India/Pakistan, which were countries Britain had invaded and used the resources and people over the previous 2 centuries. As these countries were in the commonwealth, it gave their citizenship rights to settle in the UK. It was the choice of many film and TV companies not to include any characters from different ethnic groups in their films in this era but they did live and work in the country. Many men from these lands had fought in WW2 for Britain to defend these shores and grateful were we for their contribution.

A very kind face. I thought the same of Hylda Baker.

Some houses still have the old home bar, though.
Brilliant
Some people now would rather go out their way to hurt rather than help. Vile world now.

Racist. Plus, there were plenty of immigrants in Britain then
