What is the point of sheltered accommodation if no one knows when a person is struggling like that? You are a very caring couple
Thats a valid point but sometimes the people are to proud to let people help them his daughter has probably tried to help and get his permission to sort things. Dose not look like he has carers as such just that he has a warden.
Even when I was a community carer for the elderly I’d still do the dishes/throw away mouldy food/make sure sides and floor were clean 😢
@@oddsocks8992 my Aunt was like you. She even took plates of Christmas Dinner from her own house,to some who were alone.
Emily I know you are a sweet angel; it brings me to tears-but Matt helping you-and tackling that fridge was really moving.

If any of the insulin in the fridge has been frozen/ part frozen please make sure it is disposed of properly at a pharmacy as it could be less effective if used which is obviously very dangerous in diabetic patients. It may also be useful to make his pharmacy aware that he has a large stockpile of this medication so that he doesn’t get more delivered before he has used what he already has. First priority is the patient but also these medications are particularly expensive for the NHS which is avoidable by informing the correct people. The diabetic nurse/ clinic at his GP’s surgery may also want to make sure he is on the correct dose and is administering it properly as that was a very large stockpile. They can also reduce the quantity prescribed where applicable to prevent this happening again.
- I am a pharmacist who sees this type of accidental stockpiling regularly however can be preventable in the future once we know it is happening. Might be worthwhile passing this information onto his daughter.

These types of videos always warm my heart and make me sad at the same time. When it comes to the elderly, it always makes me worried about what the future will bring at our old age and how we'll be able to take care of ourselves and our homes.

I love how friendly you are. When a fridge has ice it is usually because the seal isn’t working and damp air gets in. Maybe he doesn’t close it correctly.
This series is such a wonderful idea and is such an inspiration to others to offer a hand where we can. More people need to be like this ❤

Well done both. Its amazing how we forget about our older folk and those who care for them. What a wonderful thing for both him and his daughter for you to help. I was left on my own during Covid to look after my elderly parents. I'm single and lived with them and was proud to care for them. However during lockdown there was no home help no formal nursing etc and in the space of 18 months both my parents passed. Thankfully they didn't get covid and I was able to keep everything clean and tidy and sanitary though it was 24 7 care. Having any help would have meant so much. So well done . From CC in 🇮🇪 Ireland.

New subbie here. I ❤️ love this series. The elderly need so much help and no way to afford it. God bless you all for doing this. An atomic bomb could go off and destroy everything on earth, and a week later, there'd be roaches looking for food. Their eggs are everywhere, inside every nook and cranny, high and low. Staying on top of them is a full-time job.
A tip to thaw a fridge or freezer quickly is to fill a saucepan with boiling water and place directly in the fridge or freezer (turned off) with the door shut. 😊

If the old man is disabled as it looks from the bathroom he might be, he can get Attendance Allowance which he could use to pay for a regular cleaner. If he hasn’t already claimed it his daughter should look into it for him.

As a domestic cleaner alot of my clients are elderly, and like this some are in sheltered accommodation.. I love working for them and the stories they tell...
I have regular client cleans...
And yes as you rightly said in this video you have left the stuff where he can reach it 👏
I have a client who I have to make sure I clean but put back pretty much where it was as they have pretty bad eye sight..
I do sadly also have a client who's family seemed to have walked away...apart from the son who can drive 6 hours and come do a millions jobs that the other siblings and grandchildren who drive up and down that road TWICE a day, but are 'too busy' to pop in
One of my ex elderly clients who has no family apart from a younger sister abroad... His kitchen 🤢...
I used to clean the fridge out fortnightly..and the FIGHT.. I had over chucking old food 🙈🙈🙈...
Sadly I had to give him up, because his health deterated during the 2nd lockdown (I stopped cleaning clients obviously cos of lockdown rules) and he took a nasty fall..and had carers coming in twice a day...
Sadly when I tried to help him again he was verbally abusive.. and phoning me...
Its the flips side of cleaning for the elderly, you have lovely clients...and cry your eyes out when they pass (one my passed Friday 😭), and you have some that you have to walk away from because they become verbally angry 😢 (I have suffered from 3 of these)

Great work. The quickest way to defrost ice in the freezer is to switch the fridge off and place a standing fan in front of the freezer area, on it's strongest fan speed, blowing directly into the freezer compartment. Same for the fridge area if there's ice. Defrosts in a jiffy, makes the ice easier to knock out. Remember to place a towel rolled up lengthways under the fridge to soak up any water that might run onto the floor, so you don't slip.
