    It’s in the endgame that, to me, the strength of these players really stands out - Wesley defended quite resourcefully considering Magnus had an outside passed pawn so far from Wesley’s king, but you get the feeling this is a routine conversion for Magnus even in rapid format.

    • @sn00pryan
      @sn00pryan 3 роки тому

      I'm not particularly good or anything - but general principle you want to develop king side pieces to castle quickly. Theres only a couple choices as to where to bring it out to, and by developing to that square, not only is the bishop protected (by knight) - but also exerts influence over central squares - and can't easily be kicked out by a pawn (ie if it was developed to b5). Also, while it's still early game and somewhat irrelevant at this point due to pawns, considering black will likely castle king side this bishop placement will tend to line up with blacks king later on and help exercise more threats

    • @jrd33
      @jrd33 3 роки тому

      I don't think Magnus has any particular reason for that move. He wants to castle and all the other potential squares for the bishop are just not as good - they either leave the bishop in the way of other pieces or at risk of being chased away by a pawn. Sometimes there are no great moves and you have to keep your options open.

    • @BiggyJimbo
      @BiggyJimbo 3 роки тому

      Yeah, maybe.. I don't think it's as simple that though. Agad, more than anything, wants to show interesting, novel games. Magnus wins a lot of games all the time but Agad couldn't possibly cover all of them.
      This game is an example of a novel game, with Magnus' intriguing opening play and his relentless mating attack.
      Also, Magnus is the world champion. Agad probably understands that when Magnus wins a game, a large majority of his UA-cam audience are going to care about it, and want to see that game.
      You're right though, Alireza is a massive talent, and deserves coverage - I haven't yet seen the game you're speaking of, but I will now watch it. If it's a particularly interesting game, I'm sure Agad will contemplate covering it.

    Few people noticed how Magnus slipped extra pawns on the board during the game.

    Mamedyarov vs Duda
    Yesterday Mamedyarov missed a rook sacrifice that would lead to a mate in 6. ( I hope it was against Duda)

    Dragging Magnus into an endgame is a poor decision...
    Dragging Magnus into an endgame one pawn down is just lunacy.
