Once I was hiking alone, took a wrong trail and got lost in the Grand Canyon river area....AZ. Its very frightening. I retraced my steps and finally found my way back to camp. In a wilderness, anything can happen. When lost, panic can set in within a minute and your brain stops being rational.

I don't have any theories on these disappearances but thinking of the millions of tax dollars and private dollars spent searching in vain . . . It would be much less expensive both in lives and money to simply have the park service give every person signing in to enter these areas a satellite gps device. It would be activated in the event of an emergency if you wanted to walk that tightrope. Or you could walk with the thing on all the time. And these devices might be discernable from the satellite if not returned to the park service by the time you were expected. The beacon would automatically ignite. Easy ideas. There's a missing man right now from Etowah, Tennessee. James Pruitt, 70, is missing in the Rocky Mountain State Park, Estes in Colorado. Last heard from on Feb.28, 2019. Searching began on Mar. 3rd. Snowstorm hit of course on Feb. 28th night hampering the search. As of yesterday, Mar. 4th, no trace of him yet. He has hiked in the Rocky Mountain state park at least 3 times I believe previously. Prayers r with the family. Post note= as of today Mar.15,2019 the search for James Pruitt has been called off. No trace of him has been found. Sad news for family.
Why do people go to extremes of outdoor adventures??? I can understand Steve Irwin's fanaticism as partially due to ratings & profits; but why this man in the peak snow season and alone???
TangleF50 , the mountains are mesmerizing. I think that when people visit Colorado, no matter what time if year, one thing they want to experience, is the mountains. I think people just make the decision, because this is their chance to experience it. That's the only thing that makes sense to me, why anyone would choose to go in adverse conditions..There was a father and son who died near Mt. Evans. There was clearly a snowstorm going on, but they went anyway. They were on spring break, so I assume that this was something they had planned, and possibly nothing was going to stop them from doing what they had planned, regardless of the weather.
When you live in Colorado, you can always turn around, and come back on another day. Not so easy for the visitor. The weather doesn't always cooperate with our plans, and some of us follow through with them. The weather constantly changes in Colorado, it can be sunny one minute, than snowing the next. You have to be prepared, I carry 3 different shoes with me, hats, gloves, and coats and light jacket, and emergency gear, including food. If I don't need it, someone else may.
What is happening Rusty we are missing you and some new videos I figure that you are probably busy Alot of other UA-cam channels are doing missing persons videos and they are good but they don't come close to you Rusty. Every day will need more hope, as the passing of time reduces the likelihood of a find or even a clue. So sad when any situation that demands hope yet no positive results. Hopelessness. What remains when all hope is lost is one's good intention.
Journeystomake Alkebulan: yep. Especially when you ain't had the chance to make amends and say what you have to say, with your loved one before they passed. The lack of having that experience prevents full 100% closure. It's bitchy. :/
bikegirl2 yeah I'm by no means and expert but I've climbs long's peak when I visited Colorado. I'm pretty sure we didn't take the key hole route but there were some sketchy narrows spots that I couldn't imagine doing in winter without equipment....
Great hearing your voice Rusty!! Hope all is well, and Thank you for another interesting but very sad video. Prayers to all the families that have lost love ones in and around our national parks. My heart goes out to each and every one of you!
Nice covered Rusty. Perhaps by summer, once the snow pack has receded some evidence may appear. I live in an area were we have snow from four to six months of the year and I know how quickly things can be covered and or erased by the snow and wind. I do not believe the outcome will be good.
That was my thought as well. It hasnt thawed yet, and maybe some evidence will be found. I agree it won't be good, however I imagine the family would like to lay him to rest properly. This is just terrible.
very unforgiving winds in that area, Rocky and icy terrain, without proper equipment in winter conditions one could not make it a 1/4 mile, the trail can get steep and slippery
@@n8rlvr876 Hello to you!!.. Kinda odd, how he just stopped putting up videos. Hope Nothing 'Bad' became of it.. Due too the people that Don't like things brought out to the public.
How sad. He looks like a bright young man. I was an avid backpacker in the Sierra and ran into bad weather a couple of times. So let's look at it logically. If he ran into bad weather, where would he go. I can tell you from experience I would find a way to get out of it - head to a cave for example. I bet he did the same thing. Cold weather makes you sleepy, and if you sleep, you will probably freeze to death. And I would say he fell asleep in a cave, which would explain why people found no evidence of him, and why thermal imaging didn't work. If anyone reading this is planning to hike alone, my advice is don't do it. If you have to, take a transmitter, but I have to tell you that by the time help arrives, it may be too late. Prayers for him and his family.

I remember backpacking to Egypt Lake in Alberta, Canada and listening to a SAR volunteer about these "solo" hikes. Her take on it is this: "If you're going to be irresponsible and attempt a solo hike unprepared in bad conditions knowing full well, ahead of time that it is a very risky proposition, then if SAR is required to find you, the invoice will have your name on it." Interesting take on the subject.
Hey Rusty....just want to say that you have done the best expose of the missing persons phenomena than anyone else...the haunting music, your effective story-telling voice, etc. I just wish you hadn't flaked out and stopped posting your videos. I know I am not the only one who misses you. Please get back on the saddle, brother!
I am from Boulder and that area is no joke. I hiked Chasim lake a few times and even in the summer you need jackets and hats up there. I know 2 ppl who needed to be rescued off of Longs who are experienced mountaineers. Some people think that hiking a 14er is NBD. You have to train for it and have the right equipment for the weather.
Not really. Longs Peak has a lot of sheer drops, and deep snow. Add a storm into the mix, and they'd both easily end up under several feet or snow. The best chance of finding anything is after the spring thaw, but that's only if scavengers don't find them first.

Was he by chance suicidal? Seems that he was experienced, knew the area, yet very ill equipped. Strange case?
Would be interesting to know what his full kit included... It sounds like the last bit to the summit is pretty exposed... Steep hiking on rock, snow, and ice with a high penalty for failure without at least crampons and an ice axe = not so bright.
Thank you Rusty! Always look forward to your vids! ♡

Who else Googled “Rusty West” to see if he is a Missing Person?
I did
Just did
I did too! Where are you?
Where the heck is rusty???????? Any news????
@@am2023 Hope it's not something like Alana G (aka Paranormalana) she quit putting out video's because someone was stalking her! Does anyone remember that!?! Scary! Please let us know Rusty how you are!
Always great to hear from you, Rusty! Thanķs for yet another video, even if the content is, again, sad. Your genuine compassion for those missing and their families always comes through.
Come Back!#RustyWest
😔
Why do people go to extremes of outdoor adventures??? I can understand Steve Irwin's fanaticism as partially due to ratings & profits; but why this man in the peak snow season and alone???
@@TangleF50 you sofa king we Todd did
TangleF50 , the mountains are mesmerizing.
You have gotten quite the following and I am sure that they are missing you to. Just checking in to see if you are alright and hopefully coax you into another 10 missing people video. Cheers bud
He is missing in the woods
Glad to see you are up AND RUNNING
I hope that this young man is found so his family can get closer.
Every day will need more hope, as the passing of time reduces the likelihood of a find or even a clue. So sad when any situation that demands hope yet no positive results. Hopelessness. What remains when all hope is lost is one's good intention.
"Closure"
Journeystomake Alkebulan: yep. Especially when you ain't had the chance to make amends and say what you have to say, with your loved one before they passed. The lack of having that experience prevents full 100% closure. It's bitchy. :/
@Journeystomake Alkebulan well you can't really get emotional closure when someone dies. But you can have a closure to the case.
tall32guy I agree with you on that, I have to live with the painful regret of not apologizing to my mother before she unexpectedly passed away🥺
It’s been a long time since we have had a new video ☹️
Who would try to summit long's peak in the dead of winter it's suicide...
bikegirl2 yeah I'm by no means and expert but I've climbs long's peak when I visited Colorado. I'm pretty sure we didn't take the key hole route but there were some sketchy narrows spots that I couldn't imagine doing in winter without equipment....
Phil McCrevice I think he’s trying to say that our reality is stranger than fiction. There are myths and tales for a reason.
Great hearing your voice Rusty!! Hope all is well, and Thank you for another interesting but very sad video. Prayers to all the families that have lost love ones in and around our national parks. My heart goes out to each and every one of you!
Hey Rusty!!! So glad to hear you!! I miss you!
Hey Rusty, hope you are OK? Not heard from you in a while....
I.M.watching Always I agree with you whole-heartedly.
Ian Y Gath they found him July 5, 2019
Rusty West.... You Tube's most underappreciated channel.
very unforgiving winds in that area, Rocky and icy terrain, without proper equipment in winter conditions one could not make it a 1/4 mile, the trail can get steep and slippery
Oh so true not to mention altitude
Thanks for the upload Rusty ! Very sad ! Hope there is closure . Best wishes from the UK .
His remains were found on July 5th, 2019. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
Where have you been rusty! We miss your content!

Case Study 09: The Disappearance of Rusty West
Hey rusty. You ok? You've been off the grid for awhile.
Hope you are well rusty. I miss your videos when you dont make anything recent. Its been a couple months so I hope you are well. God bless you.
Rusty might be missing
You doing ok Rusty? Been a few months since you've posted a video. Just checking in on ya. Hope you are well and enjoying the summer.
RUSTY!?, WHERE ARE YOU??
Next video: Case Study 009: the Disappearance of Rusty West. Guys, we seriously need to form a search party to find him! The fact that he sometimes retraces the path of these missing hikers causes me concern 😬
Glad to see a new video from you Rusty. I was missing you. You’re my “go to” for intelligent intrigue. Thank you for all your hard work.
Good video once again. When is the next missing persons video gonna be out???
You make it so nice and soothing to hear about these missing folks.
Yo rusty are you still alive?we need more videos please
Please MR. Rusty West keep up the awesome work.
I cant wait till your next video!
Great video as always Rusty. Just wondering if you are ok. We all haven't heard from you in a while. Please be careful! We miss you and care about you.
Do we need to send out search and rescue for Rusty? He seems to have vanished.
i'm confused as to why there could possibly be 127 'thumbs down' ? it's hard to believe there are actually 127 people, who would not appreciate this content? why would there be any dislike for such a video ??
YT trolls.
Hope you are doing okay Rusty! We miss you!
An interesting and well covered story, Rusty. It was nice to hear your voice again, although I hate that it is because of sad cases.
Where are you? I sleep to your videos. I hope your doing well.
This was a really interesting case. Thank you for posting this . It’s so important to have at least one person with one on a challenging trail like this . Buddy up and having a beacon is a great idea . Obviously a cell phone alone is not sufficient.
Bertha Ford , yes Yes. He was 20 Obviously INEXPERIENCED & Got himself onto a COUGARS MEAL PLAN- iAlmost happened to me one Fall in the benign Santa Cruz Mts. Dusk! Silence. Where he was it’s almost certain
Rusty man we need more videos !!! Where u been ????? U have the best missing people cases channel on here as a professional hunting guide I travel all over the u.s mountains and plains and like to keep up on what’s going on and where !!!!
Thanks Rusty, love and prayers from NY!
Awesome! I love your uploads!! Thanks Rusty!!
I dont understand people putting themselves at risk. God bless all the searchers who go out € look 4 the missing.
Dog Mom , quite right! See my comment... WHY DO THEY RISK THEIR LIVES LOOKING FOR ..... well. HE WAS JUST A KID - 20 is still a baby... SUICIDE RATE IS HIGH FOR AIRFORCE FRESHMAN ME THINKS - but would they search if he jumped into a volcano????
Rusty hope your doing ok, miss that voice and your videos
I remember backpacking to Egypt Lake in Alberta, Canada and listening to a SAR volunteer about these "solo" hikes. Her take on it is this:
"If you're going to be irresponsible and attempt a solo hike unprepared in bad conditions knowing full well, ahead of time that it is a very risky proposition, then if SAR is required to find you, the invoice will have your name on it."
Interesting take on the subject.
I'm worried about you Rusty
😢😢😢😢😢
Where are you ?
I hope all is well
Has anyone tried to email him ?
Hey Rusty....just want to say that you have done the best expose of the missing persons phenomena than anyone else...the haunting music, your effective story-telling voice, etc. I just wish you hadn't flaked out and stopped posting your videos. I know I am not the only one who misses you. Please get back on the saddle, brother!
Hello rusty love your videos. Keep them coming 👌
Rusty is back 👽💥🌲😱
And just like that my day got better
Its weird that with so many people searching not one of the other previous missing people are being found
Za7a7aZ , Ain’t that right!! MAYBE THEY SHOULD BE SEARCHING COUGAR DENS!?!?!
Not really. Longs Peak has a lot of sheer drops, and deep snow. Add a storm into the mix, and they'd both easily end up under several feet or snow. The best chance of finding anything is after the spring thaw, but that's only if scavengers don't find them first.
Been several months since hearing from rusty. I know he takes long breaks ; still, I am hoping life is good for him and that he's doing all right.
Love your channel! Always waiting for a new upload!
