    UPDATE: It has come to my attention that the case of missing hiker Micah Tice has been solved. On July 5th, the Larimer County Coroner identified the skeletal remains that were pulled from the Boulder Brook drainage area in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). These remains were identified as the missing 20-year-old U.S. Air Force cadet candidate. His cause of death was from hypothermia and exposure. The family can now have some closure. My condolences to all those affected by the tragedy.

    Once I was hiking alone, took a wrong trail and got lost in the Grand Canyon river area....AZ. Its very frightening. I retraced my steps and finally found my way back to camp. In a wilderness, anything can happen. When lost, panic can set in within a minute and your brain stops being rational.

    I don't have any theories on these disappearances but thinking of the millions of tax dollars and private dollars spent searching in vain . . . It would be much less expensive both in lives and money to simply have the park service give every person signing in to enter these areas a satellite gps device. It would be activated in the event of an emergency if you wanted to walk that tightrope. Or you could walk with the thing on all the time. And these devices might be discernable from the satellite if not returned to the park service by the time you were expected. The beacon would automatically ignite. Easy ideas. Any smart people out there want to get rich and do something good go for it. Use the idea and run with it.

    • @tinateews9494

    • @tinateews9494

      Wendy King It's obvious, can't you tell? Why don't you check out Mr. David Paulides works and also Rusty West who uploads Mr. Paulides works. If the park service care then why don't they at least have a list of person that went missing at the State and National Parks. Mr. Paulides asked them to create one and they wanted hundreds thousands of dollars. I agree with you about given warning signs, etc. Also the individual should be more responsible and use common senses when going to the park. Never solo hike and if he or she chooses to then sign waiver. Rescuers also risk their own lives looking for missing person.

    Thanks for such a thoughtful and respectful analysis of these sad cases. Prayers for their loved ones who are left wondering and hoping. One thing that immediately caught my eye is the abundance of granite in that area. Granite is often a major factor in the Missing 411 cases by David Paulides and Mr. Paulides has noted the overabundance of individuals who have gone missing on or around granite. I know that doesn't help much but it did make me wonder. Thanks for all you do - I always look forward to your videos. Have a great week.

      I've seen it in Yosemite (I have been going there twice a week since I moved to California in Feb 2018) I also once seen a woman carrying no water rushing to the shuttle stop beause she wasn't prepared clothing/supply wise so she was cold then started to eat snow (she managed to make it to the stop I've tried telling people not do something that would likely lead to them getting lost, injured, dead but people will always think you are overreacting, just trying to make them scared and runing their day, or a know it all. I also suggest if someone asks you about hiking trails don't give them information tell them they need to head to the visitors center to get the proper information from the Park Rangers because if something should happen to them you could likely be liable for any injury or death that your tips/answers caused that person.

    If he was an experienced hiker, I’m confused about why he started hiking at 8am. Longs Peak is one of the hardest 14ers to climb in the state, and anyone who knows anything about hiking in the area knows you have to start the hike at 3-4am. And with a sweatshirt and tennis shoes? Nonetheless, it is a sad story and I hope he is found so his family can have some closure.

    There's a missing man right now from Etowah, Tennessee. James Pruitt, 70, is missing in the Rocky Mountain State Park, Estes in Colorado. Last heard from on Feb.28, 2019. Searching began on Mar. 3rd. Snowstorm hit of course on Feb. 28th night hampering the search. As of yesterday, Mar. 4th, no trace of him yet. He has hiked in the Rocky Mountain state park at least 3 times I believe previously. Prayers r with the family. Post note= as of today Mar.15,2019 the search for James Pruitt has been called off. No trace of him has been found. Sad news for family.

      TangleF50 , the mountains are mesmerizing. I think that when people visit Colorado, no matter what time if year, one thing they want to experience, is the mountains. I think people just make the decision, because this is their chance to experience it. That's the only thing that makes sense to me, why anyone would choose to go in adverse conditions..There was a father and son who died near Mt. Evans. There was clearly a snowstorm going on, but they went anyway. They were on spring break, so I assume that this was something they had planned, and possibly nothing was going to stop them from doing what they had planned, regardless of the weather.

    • @takeitorleaveit.6333
      @takeitorleaveit.6333 5 років тому +2

      When you live in Colorado, you can always turn around, and come back on another day. Not so easy for the visitor. The weather doesn't always cooperate with our plans, and some of us follow through with them. The weather constantly changes in Colorado, it can be sunny one minute, than snowing the next. You have to be prepared, I carry 3 different shoes with me, hats, gloves, and coats and light jacket, and emergency gear, including food. If I don't need it, someone else may.

    How sad. He looks like a bright young man. I was an avid backpacker in the Sierra and ran into bad weather a couple of times. So let's look at it logically. If he ran into bad weather, where would he go. I can tell you from experience I would find a way to get out of it - head to a cave for example. I bet he did the same thing. Cold weather makes you sleepy, and if you sleep, you will probably freeze to death. And I would say he fell asleep in a cave, which would explain why people found no evidence of him, and why thermal imaging didn't work. If anyone reading this is planning to hike alone, my advice is don't do it. If you have to, take a transmitter, but I have to tell you that by the time help arrives, it may be too late. Prayers for him and his family.

    I remember backpacking to Egypt Lake in Alberta, Canada and listening to a SAR volunteer about these "solo" hikes. Her take on it is this:
    "If you're going to be irresponsible and attempt a solo hike unprepared in bad conditions knowing full well, ahead of time that it is a very risky proposition, then if SAR is required to find you, the invoice will have your name on it."
    Interesting take on the subject.

I know 2 ppl who needed to be rescued off of Longs who are experienced mountaineers. Some people think that hiking a 14er is NBD. You have to train for it and have the right equipment for the weather.

      Not really. Longs Peak has a lot of sheer drops, and deep snow. Add a storm into the mix, and they'd both easily end up under several feet or snow. The best chance of finding anything is after the spring thaw, but that's only if scavengers don't find them first.
