It’s safe but would 100% recommend that you use a rope or steel cable to tether the mount and camera to your car in case the suction cup fails.

I used the Ulanzi SC-02 suction cup mount (amzn.to/3PDBV1z) for this setup. Maybe a little overkill on size for other situations but I wanted the extra suction cup power. Also, make sure to always use a tether of some sorts in case the mount fails.
