  • I figured I would do the service on this old wave radio as a 2 part. The first part dealt with the mechanism that fell apart. After getting that all sorted out there was still comparability with certain discs and I wanted to resolve that, so here is that fix.

    I'm retired from being 50 years in the TV/electronics repair business and happy to see component level repair still being done. Too many good units are getting thrown into the recycle.

    I noticed that a previous viewer suggested that the problem might be bad caps. Good to see that you followed up with an actual diagnosis and proceeded to isolate & change out the culprits. SUCCESS, and now you can breath easier ( and keep your cool too ) Thanks Dave.

      There must be no old, hardened grease on the guide rod. Other moving components should also be cleaned and freshly lubricated!

      I already had but hadn't posted the video yet as i hadn't edited. I had the guy bitching about the NAD.
      As I had mentioned in the previous video that I had spent literally 2 days on it. Well day 1 was getting the mechanism to work and day 2 getting it to play properly. This thing had too many goddamn smd parts in it.

    If your ac is struggling try taking the cover off blow out there condenser and evaporator and if you can spray them with a water hose jet sprayer or power washer on low power that will help it get cold but of course remove the electric controls the rest will be water tight

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 місяці тому +1

      Its not struggling, my shop faces south and there is NO insulation in the ceiling over me. The insulation is on the wall facing into the house. There is insulation in the walls, but none was installed in the attic when the garage was built. So it gets like a sauna up there and it radiates directly into the shop. With the door closed it will get really toasty in here, and this little AC keeps it comfortable. The hot air pipe goes up to the already hot atic making it even hotter. From there it vents out the soffits.

      The intro is kind of where I set you up for what's coming up on the video but it's mainly to stop people reposting the video. Just like every TV show has opening credits and closing for that matter but the opening logo is kind of like my trademark. Now some will turn around and they will re-edit and remove the logo and post it, but that's actually worse than posting the entire video because that in itself provides intent to try to conceal ownership and under the copyright act that is more severe than just uploading the video in its original form. the other alternative would be of course to put my logo throughout the video completely which I do when you see the little signs growing in the background but to burn it on as a bug on the screen.

    Dave, do you ever use flux? I don't think I've seen a video where you did.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  3 місяці тому +1

      The solder i use has good Flux in it. I do have Flux and I do use it if doing smd chip work like on the Sony tcon board I did chip level repair on but for thru hole I just use what is in the solder. I don't do much board repair. My clients toss anything that is that involved. No amount of convincing will get them to spend money on old crap. They want cheap simple repairs. Anything involved and they are replacing. When I do get deep into something its generally my own gear.

      Yup, they were already on my radar. I was going to do it on the first part but I never miss the opportunity to make a second video. Twice as many views twice as much on my pocket.

    Electronics and capacitors, generally when things start to flackie it a good bet the start with them, but some devices just have many I can be daunting to even know where to start... I think heat and dust are the ultimate enemies here....

    There’s a 22 or 47uf under the shield, almost dead center that always goes bad. It causes the player to boot loop or display, please wait. Another is under the ribbon connecting the 2 boards by the regulator.
    I love you grabbing the broken leads off the top of the iron with your fingers. Ouch! 😂

    Did the plastic break in the cover that the screws go into to hold the cover on? They break all the time with me because the plastic gets brittle with age, great video.

      No none are broken on this one. The one that was dropped they were all broken. That is now my back yard patio radio. If someone steals it well they get a nice radio! LOL

    Off topic:
    You make good and interesting videos, why do you need this long and annoying intro?
    If someone only sees one of your videos, that's okay, but subscribers have to watch it again and again.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 місяці тому +2

      It's for copyright. People steal and cross post content. They don't even bother to remove the logo in many cases but if they do then it's even more serious because they try to circumvent copyright. On average i file about 5 take down notices a week. I could put a watermark through the entire video but that would also be annoying as sure as shit it would cover something up at times.
