I just discovered these recordings and I am very delighted about the "simplicity" of the interpretation, without any vanity and annoying ambitions. I can just listen in peace and enjoy this heavenly music of Joseph Haydn. Thank you very much for joining! Anna Maria Kovacic
There are a lot more in this recording. By the simplicity of thier interpretation had something so unique and delicated. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recording for us. 💖💖💖
For these past weeks, every time I come to the end of these 7+ hours of Haydn's quartets, I just go to the beginning & listen again. Granted, sometimes while working, but often taking focused time to listen with no distraction. Totally rewarding, sublime music, superbly played, fine audio quality. Thanks again.
One of the things to love about Haydn is the simplicity of many of his musical thoughts - which, through his instrumentation & development, are never banal; rather, they become immediately affecting, & therefore emotionally stirring, even sublime, without any need for exaggerated drama. These performances, to my ear, bring out this quality superbly. Thanks to CM/RR & to these great players.
I could live an entire life and only listen to Haydn's quartets (or symphonies for that matter). It would be a healthy, optimistic life, full of gratitude for the simple joys that every day brings.
@@patrascurafael4519 I like this comparison to both Mozart and Beethoven, but also one could see Haydn's SQ as the seed that would yield two different and complementary products in the emotional dimension of human soul...a perfect triad rooted in the sephirotic triad composed by Jesed Guevurah and Daat, the equilibrating one, incarnated by Haydn, ..archetypal energy -forces, underlying our evolving existence towards a state of higher consciousness. Thanks for uploading this marvelous musical gift!!
Thanks Classical Music for this very valuable integral of Haydn Kaiser quartets. These are 23 quartets of the more than 60 quartets that Haydn wrote, excluding spurious (source Wikipedia). The quality of sound is impressive for a relatively old recording, thanks undoubtedly to remastering. The quality and variety fo the music is impressive indeed. Some of the quartets achieve a splendid maturity and complexity. The productivity of Haydn is nothing less than miraculous. The Wiener KonzertHaus Quartet was no doubt a splendid quartet, mature and highly musical. One should not expect less from Vienna, the center of the classical musical world at the time.
Peace Harmony Calm Quietness... A Soooooooo beautiful choice here !!!!! Perfect at home to work, read, relax !!! Thanksfully !!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ Astrid (France)
What is it about string quartets which moves the heart so immensely. Perhaps it's the simplicity, which lends itself to complexities of a different nature than concertos or symphonies. This is lovely music.

Cello and viola have a very different roll than they have in Beethoven SQ. Easily can be determined the wide wide difference between pure classic and Romantic !
This music and the way it is interpreted transports me to other times, when life was simpler, more intimate, closer to our own essence as human beings, where the Spirit was not just a word, but an experience. The beauty embodied in these masterfully interpreted chords immortalizes not only their author but also their players.
What a finding! One’s always searching, how many disappointments! No matter how big the names, most of the time something is not quite right. This is one of the very few cases there are not doubts whatsoever just from the beginning. THANKS!!!
I have recently discovered your marvellous channel. I love string quartets and certainly these of Joseph Haydn. I love especially the "soft" sound of your records. Really a great gift, thank you
As I tell my students who are in colleges or universities, and want to know orchestration, they must go to the source first, and that is the study or instrumentation. And the composers to study - Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. And before embarking on their first instrumental attempt, study the strings first, study them in detail - Violin Viola, Violoncello, and Double Bass. Taking classes in musical instrumentation with individual study will benefit as well. While studying these instruments, listen to the string quartets of these composers. Learn how they treat each instrument, individually and together. Follow the scores meticulously, note these details, copy down these works by hand or by computer. Sing each individual part while listening. Absorb and internalize these treasured works as much as possible. Make your first attempts at writing a string quartet. Make sure your knowledge of theory and musical form is solid before the attempt is made. When finished or in progress, show it to your teacher or professor for his/her guidance and opinion. Your knowledge of this art will greatly benefit you in your future attempts at arranging for string ensemble and orchestration as well.
Just a little correction: The first movement of the String Quartet in E flat Major, Op.20, No.1 , Allegro moderato, begins at 5:35:34... not at 5:31:34. The collection is really impressive, thanks a lot for sharing!
Such understated, clean, precise intelligent playing. It is so rare today, 2021, where emotive exaggeration, and dramatization makes the players more important than this great music. Play what’s written dammit. It’s such a breath of relief to hear these guys. The whole body relaxes.
I also have the Kodaly set which I do feel are also very fine interpretations but, the sound I find neither warm nor detailed like this of the Wiener Konzerthausquartett which I am hearing and enjoying for the first time (Many thanks to this channel for posting). The lightness and humor at 24:56 (and more so at 25:57) is one spot which has this great charm, as it is played here which is supported by the way it was recorded. It's just my opinion and I feel, as so many times in other Naxos recordings, that the Kodalys are over reverberant and not very pleasant to listen to. I wish I didn't feel this way about them...
This is RESPLENDENT!!!! :-)))..... @ around 41:00, I realized I was listening to both the official German and Austrian state anthems, yes?!!... Listening to this, while working~or anytime, "MAKES MY DAY" & THANKKK YOU so much for sharing it all here ~ Haydn is one of my very favorites!!!
Some of the early recordings of haydn string quartets are the finest, there are also fine recordings by the pro arte quartet originally made for 78's , they embarked on a project to record all of haydns quartets but unfortunately the war put an end to this mamoth project.
The hymn is "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken." I wonder which came first- the hymn or the string quartet, not that it matters really. Just interesting.
@@shirleyrombough8173 Haydn heard God save the King many times whilst on his two long visits to England between 1791 and 1795. On his return to Vienna: i) he wrote the national song for Austria - Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser; ii) this melody was shortly later re-used as the theme for a set of variations in the string quartet Opus 76 No 3; iii) in the 19th century, it was turned into a hymn tune as you say; iv) and later still, appropriated by Germany as their national anthem which it remains to this day. In short, the Austrian national song came first, the hymn adaptation much later.

Great thanks for your elaborated efforts for everyone here.

If only the world would sit down and listen to Haydn...we'd be in a far happier place.

Happy to read somone who understands and love Haydn 's music. Cheers from France

I could live an entire life and only listen to Haydn's quartets (or symphonies for that matter). It would be a healthy, optimistic life, full of gratitude for the simple joys that every day brings.
I FFEL YOU! I THINK HAYDN IS THE BALANCE BETWIN MOZART AND BEETHOVEN, NOT SO ANGER NOT SO PEACEFULL, NOT SO EMOTIONAL NOT SO MECHANICAL
ALSO SCHUBERT IS GOOD FOR THIS FEELING BUT I FEEL HIM A LITLE ANXIOUS
@@patrascurafael4519 I like this comparison to both Mozart and Beethoven, but also one could see Haydn's SQ as the seed that would yield two different and complementary products in the emotional dimension of human soul...a perfect triad rooted in the sephirotic triad composed by Jesed Guevurah and Daat, the equilibrating one, incarnated by Haydn, ..archetypal energy -forces, underlying our evolving existence towards a state of higher consciousness.
Thanks for uploading this marvelous musical gift!!
Il vecchio maestro indimenticabile.La sua musica è pace e serenità .
So thankful! I enjoy lisrening to Haydn..So beautiful relaxing music! PRAISE BE TO GOD!
Opus 76 can bring a grown man to his knees: few pieces of music fill me with so much joy and sadness simultaneously.
Russell Zanca Haydn’s Opus 76 is one of the greatest sets of quartets ever written.

Merci beaucoup pour partager ça ! C'est un immense plaisir d'écouter ! Sublime ! Superbe ! Simplement parfait !
What is it about string quartets which moves the heart so immensely. Perhaps it's the simplicity, which lends itself to complexities of a different nature than concertos or symphonies.
This is lovely music.
these quartets are really wonderful...thank you for the upload...thank god for the artists both past and present...
Un bálsamo para mis oídos!! Impecable interpretación de Haydn!!

The 68 string quartets of Joseph Haydn are one of the absolute pinnacles of western classical music.
2:54:40 and 2:48:16 quintessential quartet music, it’s an education
Great technical skill with most beautiful results by both composer and musicians. Thank you.
You're welcome
absolutely
This music and the way it is interpreted transports me to other times, when life was simpler, more intimate, closer to our own essence as human beings, where the Spirit was not just a word, but an experience. The beauty embodied in these masterfully interpreted chords immortalizes not only their author but also their players.
Well said ! I agree
What a finding! One’s always searching, how many disappointments! No matter how big the names, most of the time something is not quite right. This is one of the very few cases there are not doubts whatsoever just from the beginning. THANKS!!!
omg the end of the second movement of Op.76, No.3 is just beautiful, I was almost breathless here

I have recently discovered your marvellous channel. I love string quartets and certainly these of Joseph Haydn. I love especially the "soft" sound of your records. Really a great gift, thank you
You're welcome. Thanks and Enjoy :-)
Thank you for your so truthful comment that reminds me of my teacher's teaching:-)

UNGEWÖHNLICH MELODISCH !!! Tepper Michael.
All so beautiful. But Op 20, incredible!

Such understated, clean, precise intelligent playing. It is so rare today, 2021, where emotive exaggeration, and dramatization makes the players more important than this great music. Play what’s written dammit. It’s such a breath of relief to hear these guys. The whole body relaxes.

So beautifully Viennese..
very very beautiful recordings! I also have the set by Kodaly Quartet which are good as reference ...
Thanks for your beautiful works... GREAT
You're welcome :-)

Some of the early recordings of haydn string quartets are the finest, there are also fine recordings by the pro arte quartet originally made for 78's , they embarked on a project to record all of haydns quartets but unfortunately the war put an end to this mamoth project.
LA MUSICA CLASICA ES MELODIA UNIVERSAL , ARMONIZA, TRANQUILIZA, ORGANIZA.

Wasn't one of these quartets based on an Anglican hymn? Just outstanding performance. These musicians show joy and virtuosity.
The hymn is "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken." I wonder which came first- the hymn or the string quartet, not that it matters really. Just interesting.
@@shirleyrombough8173
Haydn heard God save the King many times whilst on his two long visits to England between 1791 and 1795.
On his return to Vienna:
i) he wrote the national song for Austria - Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser;
ii) this melody was shortly later re-used as the theme for a set of variations in the string quartet Opus 76 No 3;
iii) in the 19th century, it was turned into a hymn tune as you say;
iv) and later still, appropriated by Germany as their national anthem which it remains to this day.
In short, the Austrian national song came first, the hymn adaptation much later.
Haydn pours
His heart
Out
