Saw him at a german festival at the end of a night. It was 9AM. When I told a party neighbour that Colin was all playing it live, the guy told me (in german) :
- I know Stephan Bodzin personnally. He is great. But this, here, is a whole different level.
Thank you Colin Benders for playing full modular performances like these. It shows the world what producing techno the hard way means.

For a trumpeter, this guy makes some badass techno. Quite a journey he's one, love his work.

I have to say ; This was one of the best Awakenings sets. It was deep, energize and perfect.

I need to know if some of you feel this too... In Berghain was 1 hour live but for me, it was like 4 hours but not in a bad sense. It´s like a cosmo trip inside your head, travelling around your mind, again and again, enjoying every sound, every note and with this session, I feel the same. After 15 minutes I thought that it was near of 50 minutes... absolutely madness

Colin is een van de betere analoog modular artiesten als je hiervan houdt moet je ook eens kyteman root canal therapy luisteren, een man die ook hele bijzondere dingen doet is robert aiki lowe.

Ik ben heel benieuwd of dat wel gaat lukken met al die elektronica.
Het klinkt nu wel erg klinisch allemaal. Bijna saai en voorspelbaar.....
Psychodynamische gezien lijkt hij vast te zitten in het geboortekanaal.

Het is lastig om hier iets voor te voelen, als je geen benul hebt van de apparatuur die hij gebruikt om dit te realiseren, of wat überhaupt de bedoeling van deze set. Dit is gewoon pure creatieve expressie op een zeer persoonlijk niveau. Een kenner en liefhebber zal zich hierin compleet kunnen laten meevaren, en de reacties van mensen die erbij waren, waren bijzonder positief. Ook al gaat het publiek niet los, ze staan daar wel vol bewondering te genieten van een stukje kunst, cultuur en geschiedenis.
Wees blij dat zo'n groot festival als Awakenings nog ruimte heeft voor dit soort unieke performances. Dat is juist wat Awakenings zo bijzonder maakt! Gevarieerde, gemakkelijk verteerbare techno vind je nog steeds genoeg bij de andere stages.
Ik ben benieuwd hoe hij zich verder zal ontwikkelen in deze richting en blijf het zeker volgen. Wellicht verandert mijn mening een keer. ;-)
Hij gaf in zijn interview met Awakenings al aan dat hij nog lang niet aan de limiet van zijn potentieel zit, dus ik ben ook zeker benieuwd. Wat je ervan vindt is natuurlijk helemaal aan jezelf, ik probeerde slechts een beetje uit te leggen wat deze act toch zo waardevol maakt. :)
Je gelooft het misschien niet, maar ik vind hem grandioos. Vooral het 'loslaten' van overbodige vormen is hem op het lijf geschreven. Daarom en alleen daarom geef ik mijn oprechte mening. Wat ik hoop is dat hij de eerste muzikant wordt in de dance scene, want daaraan ontbreekt het tot nu toe in hoge mate.....vind ik vanuit mijn beperkte gezichtsveld. ;-)
Ik kan hier kort over zijn: Je praat poep en je heb geen flauw benul waar je over praat. Ga karnavalsmuziek luisteren. Snap je veel beter!
Cool but even with that monster probably 20 000+ euros worth system he can't get the variety, everything sounds quite similar, thus gets boring a bit... Modular synths are just not designed for a 1h+ live dance music performances other than noise and heavy experimental barely listenable music (for most)... Hope someone can convince me otherwise with links (not just a song performance, but a full live show with versatile melodies, rhythms etc...)
I don’t think you have ever seen him playing live. And the way it sounds. It is from another planet. He can get all the variety from those machines in the world. But he is at a techno gig. Hence not so fitted for a lot of weird stuff. He has done many many 3-4 hours sets with a lot of different variations etc. But you need to know that he has no clue how stuff is going to sound. Also this set. He always starts with a blank sheet. Needs to patch whatever he likes just before and during the set. Unbelievable skill involved.
@@arjanpetersen I am talking about 1+ hour dance music like this set here. It's just the same, anywhere you click randomly in this video it sounds like it's still the same tune, different part. I am sure it's a different experience if you're listening it live. All in all it is understandable, you can't compare this to a finished, produced tracks played in a DJ set, it will always be more versatile.
Watch and listen this live performance from Colin with matching light choreography, sure its not really dance, but its the opposite of barely listenable.

you may want to get a better grasp of the concept of techno, which by definition lacks melodies (well, some Detroit Techno would be an exception to that generalisation, but alas).
