Thank you I watched most of your contents about the Sony a7c it’s help me a lot bought one few days ago. I was lost but now that I found this channel I’m lost no more 🙏
3:31 I changed "touch focus tracking" by accident. This video is a life saver. I was about to send the camera back "due to defective focusing mechanism".
Switching over from Lumix to the A7c. Sold all of my plethora of lenses because I know I use only either FULL WIDE or TELEPHOTO and nothing in between. This video is great. Never before had I needed to worry about video AF LOL. Phase detect really is the bomb.
I stumbled upon your channel about a week ago and I've learned so much. I got the A7c on release day and just picked up the ZV1 as a B cam 2 weeks ago, your videos on these units have been awesome in helping me properly use my gear. I have much better understanding of my cameras thanks to your tutorials. Thank you very much. I will be dropping something in your tip jar.
Thank you for this. I shoot detailing videos using my A7C, and when I'd focus on the floor board in front of the driver's seat to vacuum, as soon as my arm got in the shot, it would focus on the back of my arm instead of where I wanted it...on the floor board where I'm vacuuming.
For harder situations like that, you can switch the camera to Manual Focus after you focus on the floorboard... then take your shot and switch it back to AF. The other option would be to select a smaller focus point on the floorboard area and make sure your arm does not cross that focus point, but I think Manual Focus is the way to go for stuff like this...
Hey, sony a7c is my first ever camera. It was getting difficult to learn about as there is so much of it to know. Thanks to you from making all this so easy by your videos. Thank you. IF YOU COULD ALSO COME WITH A VIDEO FOR BEST SETTING OF A7C FOR DAYLIGHT, INDIORS AND NIGHT TIME SHOOTING. 🙏🙏 CHEERS FROM INDIA 🙏
I watched this twice and took notes to apply to the Sony A7S III. I'm having issues getting focus tracking to stick to moving objects. Its a good tip to set transition speed fastest. Others suggest tracking works better with: more contrast in the subject vs background, less depth of field. Appreciated. Its annoying that in the A7SIII, in Stills Mode, there are Focus Tracking settings that do not show in Movie Mode
Hello and yes you have tracking options for both stills and video which are different and just adds to the confusion. Also, when tracking moving subjects, you lose face/eye detection function when recording @ 120p encase you did not know... I'm not 100% sure if the A7S III behaves the same as the A7C in this regard, but I believe this is the case. Depth of field and subject contrast as it relates to the background is also a very big deal and is usual the result of a failed focus I would say. It's definitely not easy getting everything perfect, but with practice and the correct settings for the given situation, it's a lot easier! All the best, Jay
Very good overall video. I learned a lot about my new A7C that was delivered this week. The pro tip was killer, but you blew it by showing us how you have your function menu set, but you didn't show us the step or the process to reconfigure the function menu settings. That was a tease...otherwise, a great video.
Hi Charles and I appreciate the kind words and feedback. Also, I did show you how to configure the function menu here: 9:42. I'm deep in the menu system here and this is where you set-up your function menu as you see fit. Now, by pressing the Fn Button on the back of the camera is what actually brings you into the function menu when using the camera normally. I hope that helps and I should have been a little more clear when I was delivering the pro tip ;) Jay
@@Jason_Hermann I watched that section last night and again now. You show us how to get in the function setting menu, you show us how to turn those settings that are there on and off, but I never saw a reconfiguration. That is not in the video as I have looked repeatedly. I will play around with the camera and explore...hopefully it is self explanatory but....happy holidays.
Hi Charles, I totally hear what you are saying and I could have been more detailed for sure. However, when I clicked on the facial recognition icon that is how you change it. It brought me into the sub menu configuration and I could have selected anything at that moment, but had the facial recognition already selected. With that being said, for a much more detailed breakdown of the function menu please check out this video here: ua-cam.com/video/QDUMRSmrF0w/v-deo.html Even though I was using the A6600, but the concepts are all exactly the same and should clear up any confusion you might have.

@Liam Jamison thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks Jason for the review. I’ve just bought a new Gimbal, Weebill 3 for my Sony A7C. The issue I have is that the Gimbal requires the camera to turn on PC remote in order to connect with the Gimbal, but the issue is when PC remote is on, the Eye tracking focus is disable. Do you know how to get this fixed? Much appreciated!
Yes, that sucks and no work around that I know of if you have PC Remote enabled. What I do when filming with the gimbal and people, is use no cable and just hit record on the camera instead ;)
Nice video! How do I get multiple ppl in focus with this camera. I’m a vlogger and I sometimes I have other people in frame. This camera only focuses on one person
Hi Jason! Great content! Something I have noticed on my A7C is that object tracking does not work when filming in 4K and having an external monitor connected via HDMI (only spot focus works). Have you observed the same? (I'm thinking maybe I have misconfigured something). Note that object tracking DOES work with external monitor when filming on HD. Thanks!
I just read the manual. Eye AF does not work in [XAVC S 4K]. Also not in [30p 100M]/[25p 100M] or [120p]/[100p]. Since this video is in 4k - I really don't know how he did this. Probably recorded in HD and upscaled? Anyone knows if they fixed this with the new A74?
On my A7C, I noticed similar behavior when connected to an external monitor and it won’t execute Object Tracking when shooting 4K, however, it allows Touch Focus only. Kind of disappointing when shooting 4K but seems to work in all HD formats other than 120fps. Any solutions to get Touch Tracking with external monitor in 4K recording?
Thank you so much for all your helpful and informative videos! I’m using my A7C with a sigma 105mm macro lens and Im finding that the light in the videos flickers while filming and my skin shade looks more pink/yellow at times, especially when I’m showing a product (I make makeup videos). Any advice or direction I can go in? Thank you!!!
Very helpful video! Thank you so much. Would you mind providing some information about autofocus/tracking/face recognition/eye tracking in higher resolution and/or frame rates? Like when and why do these features stop working?
Hi David, Facial/ eye recognition and tracking works in 4k @ 24p as long as you have proxy recording off. When recording 1080 @ 120p the facial/eye recognition and tracking does not work.
I really very much appreciate your videos. so detailed. very helpful. it would have been more better if some of the settings were kept few more seconds. I really do appreciate your way of presenting. Regards
I calibrated my new A7c and the DGI RSC-2, took the Rokinon 24mm, facing a problem with touch focus, in fact with the focusing. Which Focus setting is better for random recording either in day or in night. your advice is highly appreciated.
Really useful review, thank you. I normally shoot with a GH5, which I love, but this little camera is going to help me get more creative, especially with slow focus transitions etc. I discovered the custom function menu earlier this morning and it's damn useful! Cheers.
Thanks so much, clarity and pacing is great for those of us who are not total freaking experts already. I'll look over your videos so perhaps you've already don't this, but a detailed video on how to program the custom buttons and how to differentiate photo from video on these would be most helpful, I see other tutorials and they brush over that super quick! Anyway, much appreciate your tutorials, thanks a lot!
great video, learned a lot - thank you - new a7c user. which lense did you use for your talking head shots and the video sequence with your kids? and what are your recommended video settings for the a7c (pp if any, slog, hlg?) best and thx in advance.
Hello, for the talking head stuff I was using my Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 Lens. For the clip of my son I was using the Sony FE 28-60mm lens that came with the A7C. As far as grading goes I'm not using any PP and standard creative style. I have my studio lights set for 5000K so I just set the cameras to that and it's very easy to get accurate skin tones. I have the A7C set to 4k @ 24p, 100MB, f/1.8, ISO 100, 1/50sec shutter speed in manual mode. I use the selfie screen to check framing and good to go. I also have a mic above me out of frame for the audio which makes a huge difference. All the gear I use is below the video in the description area if you are interested... All the best, Jay
Dis you shoot this video with the Sony A7c?, if so, how did you get these beautiful colors without using any PP or LUT? I would love a tutorial from you how to achieve it. Thanks for your videos.
Yes and I was using the standard creative style with no picture profile. I used a custom WB based on my lighting which is about 5100K currently. No PP or LUT was used which is why I don't really use those when I can get these results straight off the camera. Good lighting is key! I'm currently using the GODOX SL150W II Daylight Balanced Led Video Light: amzn.to/3wO4KN9
