"This is Donkey Kong on Atari computer, being played with a SEGA Genesis controller."
Wow... that's quite the gang bang there.

And the 2600 version was put out by Coleco. I use my genesis pad on that.
Sega Nintendo Atari Coleco all comes together for my DK experience.

***** It added a needed dash to the game. I wish N had made an arcade version of the Game Boy version!

Colicovision was the only port to have the pie/cement factory.

Wow, this version looks pretty good. Not to mention playing a Nintendo game on an Atari platform with a Sega Genesis controller is a trinity of irony. XD

I love donkey kong because when you start it ask you "How High Can You Get?" I'm usually like "I'm pretty damn high Donkey Kong, but I'll try to get higher if you want me to".

Makes me wish I had an Atari computer in my collection. But I DO have Donkey Kong for...let's see...Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Intellivision, Texas Instruments Ti-99/4a, NES and...I think that's it.
One of my favorite arcade games from back in the day.

Sadly, the pie factory didn't make it to this video. That is one of the highlights of the Atari Computer version, as many console versions lacked that screen, including ColecoVision.

The Atari 800 version of DK is the most difficult port out of all. The same goes for DK jr. I'm uncertain why Atari decided to ramp up the difficulty on their version but it certainly makes for a challenging game.
For those that keep asking about the Pie/Cement factory, yes the A8 version has it as does every other computer port, same with the electric level of DK jr. No game console ever had either originally. Current homebrews have corrected some of those glaring omissions though.

I like how it says by Nintendo on the cartridge when they had NOTHING to do with this port, not as publisher, or developer, just licensee.

  • @santuel

This is the one where one guy made the entire port with no help from Nintendo and had to play the actual Arcade cabinet and reverse engineer the entire game. There's a whole article about it called 'Donkey Kong and Me'

Was this actually made by Nintendo?
Many of these games (On Atari) were just licensed from Nintendo and Atari either developed it or gave it to another developer to make. It is part of the reason why the designs of the characters always vary (among other slight differences) from the Arcade original. (Well, besides being less powerful) I remember this version, and I don't remember if it was actually made by Nintendo (In fact, I think it wasn't)... it just was a very good version. (Until an arcade perfect version was able to be made on the NES)

Why is the captured footage darker and less saturated?

    • @maboroshi1986
      @maboroshi1986 10 років тому

couple reasons i can think of
      1. you are seeing the image on the TV 3rd hand. first from the computer, to the tv, to the camera. so you are dealing with whatever connector CGR is using to get the image from the computer to the TV (i.e RF, composite etc which all come with their own pluses and minuses fidelity and colour saturation wise). and then filming the TV itself which will also not give a 100% accurate picture.
      2. the TV settings, camera settings, ambient lighting affecting exposure
      3. the capture card should be taking a direct capture from the device. it would be the most accurate.

To fit a level on the screen some versions will compress the level. The Atari 8bit version does this.

I have the Intellivision version, developed by Coleco.
It's downright awful. I remember years ago reading a game magazine about Mario's appearance in every version of Donkey Kong, rated from best to worst, and the Intellivision Mario ranked as the #1 ugliest Mario ever.

The Atari XL/XE is a full blown computer line. Several programming languages, lots of hardware peripherals, productivity applications, etc.. Was quite successful.
