OK I have two tips for you... 1 there is a fixative made for acrylic paints that is acrylic and is flexible it comes in a spray can and is near the acrylic paints and will keep your acrylic paint and your eyeshadow powders fixed to the ears for years. 2 There is an edging deburring tool for cleaning up cut leather edges and it gives a nice finish to any leather piece you use it on. I wish my renfaire skirts were light weight enough to use those skirt hikes on... but they are not, so I use small blanket pins and have dedicated loops for the pins to go through.
I love the skirt hikes!!!!! My dad used to work at a company that made leather photo albums and he would bring me lots of leather scrap. I have a ton of leather strips and I’ll use them to make skirt hikes!!! Maybe some harness belts too. ❤❤
Whenever you mention your skirt hikes in other videos, I always wished to learn how to make for my Ren faire. Then you post this, show how to make them, and decorate your elf ears! I'm super excited. The closest Ren faire is in May, but I am already getting so excited for it. Thank you for sharing this. I definitely want to try this out and figure how to make the tankard one too! 👏👏👏
Yay!! Glad to help! I’m figuring out my preferred method for the tankard strap so I’ll probably update in the next craft video. In the mean time I recently used a clip on back cincher (I don’t know the actual word) that was on a vintage dress. It’s elastic with a clip on either end (the same kind of clip on suspenders). I got the idea from Sara. Worked pretty well for my light little copper mug.
Thank you so much for showing how you do your skirt hikes. I've been wanting to see how but could not find a tutorial anywhere. So glad you did one. Going to the Renfest this weekend and I want to make some.
The detail on those ears was amazing! There are definitely flexible varnishes that you can use that shouldn’t have this issue. They never say if it’s flexible on the tub, but water-based or acrylic ones are usually good, but I always just test them first because I’m paranoid 😅 I used them to seal my painted foam - foam is flexible too
I also just finished watching the whole thing now, and while I’ve been working with leather long enough to probably not need a tutorial, I hadn’t even thought of making hikes myself! Last time I borrowed one from a friend who bought them online. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yeah I should have consulted my cosplay crafter husband 😂 he worked with craft and eva foam. I’ve heard of other varnishes we don’t currently use and I need to look back into it. I saved a screenshot from tumblr years ago and need to go back and find it 😂
Fantasy Faire season starts in my country next month and I'm in full prep mode. Would love some different pouch tutorials (with belt loop, with buttons, with strings, fun shapes) or bottle holders (bag, macrame, leather idk?)
I’ll definitely add those to my list of ideas! I’m still new to working with leather but I want to get better. I also had some ideas for using felt so maybe I’ll try that out soon!
While I like the old fashioned font in the captions, it's not very accessible or readable, especially for visually impaired or dyslexic people. Sans serif fonts are best for readability!
For setting your studs, a hammer is fine. A wood mallet is a little better though. The hammer is more likely to damage the studs or dent the leather. Love these ideas though! I've got two more weeks til Ren Faire and am SCRAMBLING.
Okay this might be a weird thing to point out, but I just watched Rachel Maksy's new video where she does a closet purge and she ends up dyeing one of her old dresses a mustard yellow and I think you and her have the same dress! (The purple/mauve dress you are wearing in your intro and the last dress she shows in her closet purge video ua-cam.com/video/d6wSr3_Ih38/v-deo.html ) Anywho, love what you do and hope you have fun at the Ren Fair!
Haven’t seen the video yet but it doesn’t surprise me she has one too lol. A lot of us cottagecore/hobbit/fairy girlies have what’s been dubbed the viral Amazon cottagecore dress hehe. It’s the perfect base for outfits. I have 4 colors 😂 and I want more too LOL
i know you’ve talked about it but can you show how you (or your husband) make a sword back holder? want to carry my sword but it’s too long and awkward for my waist belt
We might make one soon so if we do we’ll document it. He’s been looking for one but hasn’t found one that his specific sword fits so I’m probably gonna make one. I already made him a side holster for his smaller wooden sword but his huge claymore sword needs a back harness of some sort.
I use a little dab of eyelash glue. I add it to the ears where they meet the back of my ear, let it get a little tacky beside putting them on then press it lightly and it should stay put!
@@DressMeUpScotty I also added wire to the back of my ears for a better grip, I had ears, flower wreath, and wig I was dealing with. I will limit my accessories and some lash glue and give it a try.

Oh my god you said what? About acrylic spray? Running to the store

Total oversight on my part 😭 I will try to use Sans serif for CC more.
Fun video and cute crafts! Can't wait to see more.

These are so pretty! Youre really talented and I hope the Ren Faire went well for you! ❤

Rubber mask grease paint is what a lot of pros use for latex prosthetics.

I littarly made the same things yesterday😂😢😅
Haha how funny! We were thinking alike!
*Aggressively searches for the elf ears I bought 3 years ago bc I’m making a mushroom girl cosplay*
How do you keep your ears on. I have two pairs like yours and mine don't like staying on
I use a little dab of eyelash glue. I add it to the ears where they meet the back of my ear, let it get a little tacky beside putting them on then press it lightly and it should stay put!
