Plot aside, this is one of the most terrifying and facinating alien design.
They are fast, heavy, tanky, deady in CQC, deady in long range, can jump, craw on ciling. can swim and even glide. And as if these are not enough, they are very intelligent, cooperative, loyal, and most of all, has the determination of John Wick.
honestly the origins aren't touched on very much but I'm betting that they are supposed to be planet Killers or something along the lines of clearing planets. the way they were shown at the end of the movie being stored on a ship that it crash landed there's no way that they weren't anything more than a biological weapon for all the reasons you brought up.

That means they can wipe out their prey’s population really really fast , but they themselves also die out faster because once their food source become scarce, they die out from hunger because of their own hyper metabolism . It’s a really nice concept design to a planet clearing bio weapon , when compared to Xenomorph which is more of their own species that’s trying to survive , these White Spike are specifically designed to breed fast , kill fast , and die out fast . Whoever alien that designed them are genius , throw these alien on a planet and in a decade time you’re good to go and have fun . Those aliens are probably herbivor too since they don’t seems to care that much on these White Spike decimating every single meat that exist on the planet , either that or they don’t care about it because they probably engineered their own lifestock that can populate probably as fast if not faster than these White Spike and probably taste better too
There’s a theory that the White Spikes, evelution theory, are made from an ant species back when it was just ants. There’s an ant species that has green blood and such.

This movie surprised the hell out of me. It is really good and the aliens were perfect. They were hard to kill, there were millions of them, and as soon as these untrained civilians were placed on the battlefield, they got rid of the fear and started coordinating like army rangers. The action starts 15 minutes in and it doesn't stop till the end. Highly recommended!

The action is pretty solid, but the plot of the movie makes no sense at all. A draft so untrained civilians go and die for the future popilation when they could just heed the warning and prepare instead. Right.

Given the number of times they shoot their "spikes" they only hit 5 people and two of them don't die from being hit. You must not have noticed the number of misses as "spikes" wizz by.

What I like about this movie is that they don’t reveal aliens too early. And when they do, it is in the creepiest way possible
Sacrificing oneself for your fellow man. The courage to stand & fight against certain death. The guttural cry from them both as they continue firing till the end. Such scenes just make me tear up man, I know it's just a movie but the act itself is something that must be revered.

Director should have asked the actor to tilt and lean a bit because guns have recoil. Just a little bit of effort in filmmaking so it does not end up like generic shoot'em up video game.

Movies like this remind me how I miss simple alien invasion films that aren't just about Transformers or superheroes. I wish we can have more movies like this. Maybe next time we can have an alien invasion film, where the aliens are intelligent & actually use more advanced weaponry, kind of like the Covenant from the Halo games.

I like how the creatures are shown to coordinate, flank, strategize.
Itsmuch more interesting to see two coordinated intellugence forces fight eachother, then have humans gun down roaring beasts.
But also... can a doofus just shoot that dang alien coordinator/spotter!?
They still seem to work as a hive, since they have a ''Queen'' , it is to assume if the ''Coordinator/Spotter'' was gunned down, another would take its place immediately.

@@samsimms4403 To you, I don't know what you see wrong with this film but this film was a masterpiece. Don't get me wrong edge of tomorrow was amazing too but it got really annoying with live die and repeat while this film is a combined of Edge of Tomorrow, World War Z. the music, the soundtrack, the effects are beautiful and trust me they don't get stuck on one spot through the whole damn film.

I thought I was seeing the usual science fiction B-movie, instead I must say that it is the best science fiction film of recent years

Such a dopey movie, but pure fun!
I know right? Like, i get that reloading was never done much in action films, pretty much every single one for that matter up until the last decade or so, so it's far from the exception in this respect. Including extremely realistic film shootouts - like the final shootout is "Heat" did have a few reloading, every mag seemed to not unlimited ammo - but instead 200 to 300 rounds or something. That said, we are in 2021 for fuck's sake! Even the most, (damned near all when it comes to adults), casual and uninformed movie-viewers on the planet are still well aware of how goofy and unrealistic movie/tv-show shootouts were in this respect prior to the mid to late 2000's. In other words, you can't get away without doing some reloading, without the audience being annoyed with the fact the characters never ever have to reload their firearm.
Don't forget that their guns have zero knock back despite being full auto. And aren't these casual civilians holding the guns?
And *No Recoil Mode*

"Doc Savage" was a book adventure series I became hooked on in college, it was having a revival. Originally written before Superman, and Supe copied it a lot. Anyhow, their guns fired frozen anesthia darts chipped off a block, 500 per clip.
Doc was a great surgeon, and criminal behavior could be cured. After each shooting the sleeping baddies were rounded up and sent to await his attention.
The sounds effects of the Whitespikes are damn terrifying

3:10 I'm ABSOLUTELY happy that they showed Chris Pratt running holding his groin and keeping his mouth open during the concussion from the explosions. Not seen many movies that actually portray this in scenes with explosions.
Is there something to that? I'd imagine that keeping your mouth open might keep your lungs from rupturing or something, but can't see the benefits of a groin grab.

Also love how the monsters arn’t shrouded in darkness for most of the movie.
A small build up then a full blown battle scene against them in broad daylight.
The monsters are faster. The moment they spot a group of humans they split up and flank them.
Before the jump there were like 150 of them but only 20 were left because the wrong coordinates.
@@rotyler2177 we keep seeing one of them giving order for them to split up but the one split up seem to only shoot one or two spikes then just gone from the scene then it just order another group to split up, again. Honestly, with they number, they don't even need to do that, just rush in and kill them all with number.

Just watched this film with my husband. I was pleasantly surprised. I love the alien genre but I thought the aliens would look boring. I was wrong. They were delightfully creepy and sinister. Whomever designed their look needs an award.

Delightfully creepy, well that's a paring I don't see very often but I agree wholeheartedly on the context. The only close monster I get the same chill vibes from due to their ruthless speed and intelligence would be the Tao Tie from The Great Wall and the Mimics from Edge of Tomorrow.

Technically, "Weapons free" doesn't denote the employment of weapons, it's just an engagement condition, meaning the pilots can use any and all means at their disposal to negate a threat. "Weapons away" is the term used for the use and employment of weapons systems.

@@billrich9722Michael Bay is more accurate than most when it comes to military representation. He gets volunteers from the army, tells them what is happening, and sets a camera in the room. No script or rehearsal.
This is still one of the best movies to ever drop.

Welcome to war. But they should have never gone back to him. In a normal combat scenario you wouldn't but to save the rest of your men you would in this case.

At first the clear coordination and strategizing of the aliens, during the fight on the road, intriegued me.
But it also annoyed me that noone though of killing the alien that was cleary the one giving orders!
And loudly announcing that it was doing so.
While also not being in cover but literally on top of a car! Making it not only an easy target but its "one weakspot"-belly easy to shoot.

For me it was time travelling aspect of the movie that stood out to me,and how everything connected in the End.
In as much as there flaws in this film, and there’s many, but as popcorn entertainment this is genuinely epic. Loved this crazy rollercoaster sequence!
The movement of the monsters reminds me the alien from "Edge of Tomorrow"
This movie gave me the whole vibe from Edge of Tomorrow. The soundtrack during action sequences.. the aliens.. I thought it was the same director.. But it's not. Still, I loved both films.

They breed, move, behave and fight like zerglings from Starcraft. They even look the same. Only the zerglings have mandibles at the side of their maws and the huge talon arms on their backs are now spitting spines instead. But they still are zerglings. Google it.

These monsters are probably parasites used by the alien species to wipe out all life from any planet so that they can conquer it . But we will never know if their target was earth indeed
As the previous comments said, a completely different species crash landed on earth thousands of years ago and their cargo happened to be the white spikes. I assume they were heading else where because an invasion force like the white speaks wouldn't have been needed for the weaker resistance they would have gotten on earth thousands of years ago.

Machine-guns are belt fed, they are not using machine-guns.
This is how the left sees standard magazines.
When you are going to hunt bear, you don't arm yourself to hunt bob cat,7.62mm NATO or even 7.62 x 39 would be more effective then little 5.56mm deer hunter rounds. Plus the 12 gage shotty was more effective when it was up close and personal.
Here's to add a bit of what I've come to learn about rifle calibres from military experiments. The 7.62/7.92 rounds blow through the body. This isn't as painful as a 5.56 mm round that penetrates the body and then shreds the muscles, and organs inside. Furthermore, 7.62/7.92 mm rifles produce higher recoil force than their 5.56 mm counterparts. This is why Sniper rifles are calibrated to fire 7.62/7.92 rounds, while assault rifles as well as many Squad Machine Guns stick with 5.56 mm ammos.

It's a movie about aliens invading in the future and them going back in time to recruit people. Who actually cares what ammo type they are firing? Just enjoy the movie...my god...

@@elvergalarga4325 F-22 is a Air Dominance aircraft. Not really designed for bombing runs. Even a F-35 would be a superior option to this situation but as Arnie stated an A-10 would be way more valuable in this specific scenario.

One of the best movies I've seen within this genre. Just incredible. I also love the fact that the humans from the future chose a world cup final (soccer) as the place and time to announce themselves. Makes sense since it's the single most viewed event in TV history.

I love when the people in the truck with the mini gun were so cool and the soilders were happy they got saved but they got crushed by the monsters
Which is completely stupid by the way since actual soldiers are trained to keep an eye on their surroundings in this kind of situation, so the aliens would've been welcomed by a hail of bullets from the machine guns before they could reach the cars

The Creature Design of the White Spike actually looks more visually interesting than both the Death Angels and the Indo-Raptor. Image if they're was a newly written plot twist and the hero's of the story were able to capture a White Spike creature, and implant a Mind-Control device inside it. They could use or make that particular White Spike combat other White Spikes or Spy on them to see where they came from or what their creators are up to! If they do that to enough of them, they could use them as War Dogs or tools for manufacturing!
When I watched this movie I thought they looked oddly familiar. They remind me of the darkness from Fable 3
i bet the design was bought form a red light movie. still they are the cliche creature alien thing to be fair a lil bit of grieber, a tough of Xenomorph, based on the Jorogumo witht eh same Starshipo Troopers, Hive trash cliche. but cant deny that the idea of the creature shooting spikes agaisnt soldiers sounds better for other things rather than a movie
