    🌸Today John shows you how to divide up and plant water lilies in your garden pond: water lilies can be expensive so division is a great way to increase your plant stock to enjoy 🌸

    I'm pleased that using ordinary soil is fine, aquatic soil is so expensive to buy.

    Very interesting, thank you.
    We moved last year and have gained two ponds. One is a nature pond, the lilies are very overgrown and I’ve been in the pond and can’t find any pot they are sitting in.
    I know you’ve advised doing this in spring, but I have newts and toads that visit our pond. I’m worried about disturbing their reproduction. Could I get away with repotting the lilies now? And advice would be appreciated.

      @@LucyTully-Duggan-f6c Thank you for watching our video and for your question 💚 It is best to wait until the water is warmer for the lillies themselves and springtime is the time to do it - the amphibians will be tadpoles or efts by then and will be quite mobile not to be disturbed by any repotting We hope this helps and how lovely to have two ponds in your new home Have a lovely weekend All the best Melanie and John 🌸

      Thank you John for your quick reply, that is really appreciated. I am loving having two ponds - one for nature, one for Koi. Neither have been looked after for quite a while, so a big learning experience!
      Your videos are really helpful.

    I have one overtaking a pond, can I trim leaves off to control it in the water?

      @@hannahellis4549 Hello @hannahellis4549 thank you for watching and for your question 💚 Your plant will only grow back if you trim the leaves off - it will need proper splitting to control it We hope to have been of help to you Have a great week All the best John and Melanie 🌸

    What happens to water and plants in the winter in the small garden pond? Does the water freeze? Do the plants freeze in snow?

    • @JohnHorseyHorticulture
      @JohnHorseyHorticulture  Рік тому

      Hello Melissa - thank you for watching our video and for your question 💚 Most water plants will survive winter freezing and water lilies do better if they are deeper in the water Have a great rest of the week All the best Melanie and John 🌸
