That's exactly how I do my spaghetti sauce here in North Mississippi. Mom always used green peppers and onions from the garden. The bought stuff doesn't even compare. Happy Sunday from Mississippi to Iowa.
Until recently, I always simmered my sauce for hours, especially if I included sausage links. Now I make a quicker version similar to yours with onion and green pepper, but I always have to have some Italian sausage in it for the fennel flavor, and I've started adding a spoonful of sugar. Sounded weird, but it cuts the acid of the tomatoes.
This is exactly how my mom made spaghetti when I was growing up. I used to wake up early the next morning to eat the leftovers. It was the best. I still make spaghetti like this. My kids now do also. Yum. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for including the tip for getting all of the product out of the cans. I'm a senior citizen and grew up in Oklahoma and my mom and grandma would be gobsmacked watching cooking shows today when they just pour out of the cans or bowls without getting every little bit! We were not poor, nor wealthy, but we were taught to rinse the can and scrape the bowl. Waste not want not.
NY’er and I was raised making it the traditional Italian way, but I will give this a try. Most people I know would say that’s not sauce, but as you said…You’re not Italian and you were raised in the Midwest. For me, it’ll be another recipe. 🙂
This looks so good. My dad didn't like a lot of green pepper in foods. So, my mom would always use the seed bundle in spaghetti sauce. It would stay together and give flavor without the strong flavor with a whole pepper. Shed freeze them in a freezer bag whenever she used a pepper for something else. Then she'd have them handy.
I love that you want every drop of goodness. I do the same but use wine to rinse the tomato cans. Couldn’t agree more about fresh Parmesan and not the “sawdust” in the plastic container! (Exactly what I call it too. 😉😆😬) But as always add or omit what you like and make it your own and to your personal tastes!
I do a similar sauce here in Australia - but I add red wine to the empty tomato tins to wash them out and I also sauté chestnut mushrooms (chopped) when I do the onions and peppers. I also add a bay leaf. I cook mi e for about 2 hours. It makes a great sauce for lasagna too!
I’m Italian and make this every once in a while. Only difference is instead of butter I use bacon as my first step. I also add mushrooms to it. I believe it’s called Johnny marzetti or American chop suey. It’s a great weeknight meal :)
Looks delicious and exactly how I make mine (with the addition of 2 anchovies that completely dissolve and add a delicious umami). You are so pleasant to watch! I enjoy your videos so much.
I do both pork and beef lean as possible adds extra flavor the rest is as you do....I like the meaty version with mushrooms at times...Caleb..your fabulous!!! YUM!
That looks so tasty! I do my weekly shopping on Saturdays, but I’ll have to add this one to next week’s menu! BTW-made the ham potato chowder and it was delicious!
You left out the basil and oregano (with a brief mention at the end). Vital in any Italian dish. Ideally fresh, but dried also works. I often add dried to the sauce, and then fresh (from my garden) into the salad which accompanies my Spag Bol (as my son calls it).
rinsing the cans/jars into the food also makes for cleaner garbage...which reminds me of my grandma. i once mistook a cutely wrapped package as a gift but she said it was her kitchen garbage and she was going to take it down to the trash. 🙂 i dunno...i find as i get older i'm just cutting corners left and right and i don't know how she maintained her standards...mine's just going downhill with no brakes 😀 [another quirk i picked up is to either use those can openers that don't leave a sharp edge, or if i can't avoid one because it's pull tab, i tuck the sharp lid into the can. my ex was saying he cut his hand while smashing a garbage bag down and there was a sharp lid. i've never tried to compress it like that so it never occurred to me that someone might get hurt by it so now i'm mindful of trying to hide the lid in the original can...]
Garlic is healthy and good for you. I love adding garlic into everything I cook. It's about adding and enjoying what flavors in your food you like. Let's enjoy food the way we like😄
Can you do this recipe with fresh tomatoes? I mean it plays back to I want to know what’s in my food IDK but getting tomatoes in cans meh not appetizing
Of course someone is going to complain about canned tomatoes. Why watch someone else's recipes if you don't like canned vegetables. Most people make their sauce with canned tomatoes. You know how many fresh tomatoes you need to make sauce? Way more then I care to wash and chop

Same! Its how I always made it. Growing up on a farm & had all we needed. Nothing is the same like back then. Louisiana love.
Delicious!!!!..
I could put some basil.
When he said I like to know where my food comes from, I felt that 💯

Mmmmm...reminds me of my grandparents and parents spaghetti. 😋

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THE WATER SPOUT ABOVE THE STOVE SO KOOL
I love how real you are and how good your food is!!! Thank you for all of that!!
I like to change up my sauce recipes. I’m Italian but also like to make variations at times. 😊
Brought me back to my Moms' spaghetti! (North Dakota in the 70's) Thanks for being here! You are great.
❤❤❤❤❤❤Thank you for showing how it’s so important to use all the goodness that is left behind in our cans and jars!! Love 💕

Yum, I’m Italian and I will be making it this week
Looks quite delicious and simple to prepare.😊

Your videos are so much fun to watch.
My mom always added tomato paste which gave the sauce a boost of red color. No to orange spaghetti sauce.
Excited to try this out!!!!
I could eat that right now for Sunday brunch
🤤 Yes that is a beautiful thing 😃
You are the next Martha Stewart! Just found you and already enjoying and learning so much. Thank you for the inspiration!
annndddddd now the wife wants me to cook this today!! ha ha
👍Will have to make this coming week, have green pepper left from roomy making chili
I agree with you about the butter. Even when I'm using a jarred sauce I will add a pat of butter or garlic butter if I have it on hand.
This is how my nana tricked me into eating more veggies her sauce was basically a really thick stew with Italian seasoning and noodles
Looks delicious..thanks
This looks so delicious and easy too! Can't wait to make it. So hungry for spaghetti and meat sauce now.

Hi❣️ I followed your recipe and we love it, you’re the best! 👍. Thank you 🙏 😊

Looks delicious. I also add sliced mushrooms, leek and celery to use up all the veggies in the refrigerator..
Making this tonight! 💫

Nice
Awesome recipe once again.I always add bay leaves to my sauce.
Great tips on how to make my spaghetti even better!! Thank you.
Looksgreat
I do both pork and beef lean as possible adds extra flavor the rest is as you do....I like the meaty version with mushrooms at times...Caleb..your fabulous!!! YUM!
I always put a pinch of sugar or stevia in my sauce to cut the acid
A teaspoon of honey is really good, too.
Grated carrot works well to sweeten it up too.
I’m going to make all of your one pot meals, one at a time!!
Amei!!😍😍😋😋beijos
What is your favorite brand of cookware pots? I just decided to make spaghetti and meat sauce for dinner! With ground chicken.
Yummy
It's how we do it too!:-)
That looks so tasty! I do my weekly shopping on Saturdays, but I’ll have to add this one to next week’s menu! BTW-made the ham potato chowder and it was delicious!
I make it the same way but my family likes mushroom and olives, too

He added them right after the garlic & before the tomato items.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU HAVE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL HOME BTW, CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU GONNA WHIP UP NEXT,
I always make my own sauce. Some of those jar sauces are too sweet and too thick. It’s so easy to make sauce and customize it to your taste.
I always simmer my sauce for hours. Is that not a good thing? I’m going to try this. Looks delicious.
I'm getting one of those "helpers" to transfer cutting board to pan ! What are they called?
Which All Clad pans are the best? There are different ones.
I make this exact thing all the time except I add sliced mushrooms and a dash of soy sauce and let a Parmesan rind sit in the sauce while it simmers
Definitely going to try this! Looks great.
I do my sauce just like that! I don’t like the jarred sayce because it’s too sweet.
We had this growing up in the 50s. We called it American Goulash.
Why Mother put a little sugar?

Looks delicious but as an Italian I have to say lets use less garlic....please.
Love you and wonder how you know so much about cooking?
Garlic is healthy and good for you. I love adding garlic into everything I cook. It's about adding and enjoying what flavors in your food you like. Let's enjoy food the way we like😄
Looks like a good recipe? We're going to add some sauerkraut and mushrooms.
Can you do this recipe with fresh tomatoes? I mean it plays back to I want to know what’s in my food IDK but getting tomatoes in cans meh not appetizing
Cans have labels so you know what's in them.
Of course someone is going to complain about canned tomatoes. Why watch someone else's recipes if you don't like canned vegetables. Most people make their sauce with canned tomatoes. You know how many fresh tomatoes you need to make sauce? Way more then I care to wash and chop
So. Is he single or is the cam dude his man??
