Wow I admire a girl that's into muscle cars not too many out there
You're right :-)
Awesome, I have a 1970 Olds 442 myself, but the GSX really is something else.
It's one of the cars I have wanted a ride in and I though the Viewers would enjoy the trip. Thanks for viewing and commenting, Lou
Thanks Lou! This is exactly identical like the one I had and drove. Only difference was mine was a Stage 2, even more rare and the valve covers on mine came with Chrome valve covers from the factory. Talk about memories when I watched this video. Raced a few Hemi's back in the day with it and it would flat shut the Hemi's down! It would really blow a Hemi owner's pride and ego. I would pull into gas stations back then and people couldn't believe it was a buick. Thanks for turning me onto it!!!
Hi John Jenkins, Glad this one brings back the good memories :-) Lou
Knew a couple in West Valley Utah that had his and hers 70 GSXs both yellow. I believe they were both stage 2s. Lived down the street was great hearing them fire up in the morning.
There were only TWO Stage 2 cars ever built. They never went in to production. You could buy some of the parts manufactured for them and install them on your own.
These were nice because you got a nice interior as well. Very underrated muscle car.
Hi Quentin 33, Thank you for sharing and glad you thought this one is nice :-) Lou
One of Buick's best for sure!
Hi Kramden, Glad you like it. Thanks for viewing and commenting, Lou
That's more like it! What a beauty! I love that yellow and black color scheme! I only wish that it was a 4-speed manual. Only all your later videos of these cars are at these indoor car show venues, where you can only start the engines , and hear them run. Thanks for sharing this Lou.
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
I had one back in the day would smoke the tires with very little effort and had the best quadrajet I've ever seen it would open up instantly with no bog.
Sounds fun :-) Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you'll enjoy.
Oh mama!!!! There's the daddy! Just a gorgeous presence this is. Breathtaking to say the very least. My all time dream machine.... it's still a dream. Thanks lou!!!
Hi John, Happy to read this one is a "dream machine" for you :-) You're welcome, Lou
in 1981 a friend sold me his 1970 GS Stage 1 for $2,000. There are lots of videos on UA-cam, and this one is no exception, that DO NOT capture the true essence of the car. I have owned lots of cars in 40 years but the Stage 1 is the one that got away. I guess it is like the Grand Canyon, it is impossible to capture on film. Mine had the M22 Rock Crusher, close ratio, and it really PULLED, in complete comfort. In-dash Tach and air conditioning.
Sounds like you have some wonderful memories. Thank you for viewing and sharing your details about this great car, Lou
One of the best muscle cars ever! Sweet ride! Monster torque and big cubes! Great car!
Glad this one is a Winner for you :-)
My 71 rag top 455 was punched out 0.30 sweet sleeper..single exhaust lol...mustang owners hated that car....I could pick the wheels up if I lauched it right...amazing torque...when I pulled the engine out of the 73' estate wagon the flywheel was shattered. Oh my...
Hi Mark, Sounds like you're having a great time with your car :-) NICE! Lou
Got to love the GM A bodies.Fond memories. Thanks for sharing Lou. Keep up the good work.
Hi John, My pleasure sharing this car with you :-) You're welcome. I appreciate the encouragement, Lou
Can you imagine the attention this thing gets when you drive it slowly down "main street", or pull into a crowded parking area?
The color and car definitely are a head turner :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.
✌️So nice! IMO, Buick is missing the mark. If they’d bring back the Stage 1 this type body style (i.e. ‘Cuda) for 2019/2020, it’d be a killer sale for them. At any rate, thx Lou👍
You have a great idea Major Payne. You're welcome, Lou
They can’t bring it back as Buick doesn’t exist anymore other than name only. An emblem slapped on a Crappillac/ Chebby 1/2 breed. They Generic Morons aka GM dismantled what we once knew as. Buick. It’s all Generic Morons.
How can you have a Buick without a Buick engine? How can you have a Buick when the company no longer exist or has authorization to make its own engine?.
Fact: the last Buick motor to ever be cast was the 3800 series.
This is true they should bring back all the top muscle cars they would make killer sales these plastic cars are gas guzzlers and they said the muscle car were gas guzzlers s*** my Hyundai SUV I got now gets 10 miles to the gallon on a v6 I got my eye open on a Buick GSX or an old 442 that's my next vehicle I ain't spending no 80 grand on a plastic piece of crap that's all computered you all take care
@@buickdude69 -I think you're missing my point. Doesn't matter if it's a BUICK, OLDS, Ford or Chevy. My point is to take the OLD 60's, 70's style BODY's like Dodge has done & make new ones w/ today's technology on board. I'm sure They would have record sales just like Dodge has done recently.
@@majorpayne5289 And you sir are missing my point. Yes if they'd 1st, bring back Buick Motor Division and 2nd, let them cast their own engine with todays tech, that'd be great. But Generic Meatheads will NEVER allow that to happen! True brand enthusiast don't give a hoot about a brand X engine in a car with a legendary name on it. That Chevrolet Holden POS they called a GTO was a disgrace to the real Pontiac community. Buick people want a Buick engine, or nothing at all. Let the legend die with the brand that Generic Meatheads destroyed! As a Buick guy, I'm looking at Challengers and possibly Mustangs for a brand new muscle car. Can't walk into a showroom and buy a real Buick any longer. But I know a Challenger will have a Dodge engine under the hood and the Stang will have a Ford engine under the hood.
My all time favorite muscle car..
Happy to read this is a Winner for you :-)
That’s one beautiful gsx. I have a replica of a 1970 Buick GSX painted in Apollo white that I bought from a lady in the suburb of my hometown. Unfortunately my GSX is not for sale
Hi Randi, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this one :-) Glad to read you have a fun car, Lou
Buick also named it the stage 1 buick named it after the first stage when a rocket took off the ground first stage is ignited at launch and burns through the powered ascent until its propellants are exhausted. And the gs was added an x for expirimental
Hmmm, didn't know that about the "stage 1". Thanks for sharing.
@@loucostabile your welcome lou anytime
@@DavidR-ub2dp First Stage of a Rocket ? C'mon man.
@@DavidR-ub2dp Rocket Man !!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the day, if you ran across one of these on a Saturday night as gomer says, surprise, surprise! These were fast.
Nice :-)
The gentleman’s race car these cars were the perfect amount of styling with performance owning one of these would be more then a privilege it would be an honor good luck with it and god speed
Hi Raymond Wilson, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy, Lou
Nice to see Erica was the owner of this. NOT usual.
Thanks for viewing and sharing.
I was hoping Erika might perform a donut on the empty car lot which, in America, is probably healthier than eating one.
Great idea ! Next time I see her I'll discuss, and knowing Erika, there will probably be lots of icing on that donut !
Yep I'm surprised Erica isn't 30 stone, some real fat ass women in America.
Mark Wood That’s a very rude comment and you should delete it immediately.
Yeah the Buick GSX 455 put out 510 ft pounds of torque which is very impressive but olds put out 500 ft pounds of torque at 2400 RPMs which I thought was very impressive I just found out recently that the GSX put out the 510 ft pounds of torque never knew that that's why I was an old freak I thought the 500 foot pounds of 2400 RPMs was like the highest and the Chilton's book of all motors but they never had the GSX motor in the Chilton's book on the specs on that car a stock all Oldsmobile 350 4 barrels put out 325 horsepower that's a 1970 motor with 10 and a half to one compression and had steel crankshafts for some reason the 455 had cast iron crankshafts a very few had steel couldn't figure that one out yeah ever since what 1986 or 7 Detroit closed down all their plans that ruined America and all the muscle cars Ford still has one plan out there but hey they're all these plastic junk cars now and imports and will really makes me sick of these hot rodders with four cylinders and front wheel drive think they got and loud mufflers think they got a fast car to me they sound like an old snowmobile
always loved the sight of the gsx ever since i saw it in hot rod book in 80s.
Very cool Buick :-) Fun to video and share this ride, Lou
Nice car & video, but it's not a "Stage1". She will find out the bad news when she gets the microfiche info.
..how so?
She said it wasn't a Stage 1.
@@duradim1 actually she says " I just hope I can verify everything is a Stage 1 ".
Hi 1320Buick455, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy. Lou
That is not a Stage 1. Stage 1 had chrome valve covers and said Stage 1 on the air cleaner not 455. There was never any Stage 2 or Stage 3 engines from the factory. These were only available over the counter or dealer installed.
Maybe the ultimate street sweeper...it's a beast!
Hi Gary, Happy to read you enjoy this "Beast!" :-) Lou
such great cars lost era
Thank you for sharing edwad stanford. Hope you see MANY cars from this era on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
My uncle bought a buick like thus in 1970 he special ordered it with a muncie m22 it cost over 4,6000 dollars at the time he has it in storage under 38k miles on it today his is in apollo white
Hi David R, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
dolls dont move lol...... that doll is movin
:-)
My first car was a 1970 Olds 442 w30 I had the straight quarter panels I did not like the other quarter panels at the old 442 usually had on them I had like to cut the supreme type quarter panels which are a lot nice and prettier than the other ones but Oldsmobile I tell you I thought they had the most torque of all cars and horsepower and every time I took it to the track I want the trophy it was my favorite car it was a girl getter from hell over the years I put forge pistons in it never bored the block put a cam in it had the motor balanced and I tell you that really made a quarter mile car and 456 gears and ladder bars the 72 olds 442 had the straight quarters like the Cutlass supreme my 1970 with the gears and a few modifications ran 11 seconds

Yeah it's a shame that from 1971 on up they dropped compression ratio and the olds and all the cars even the Fords and all from 10 to 11 to 1 compression down to eight to one because the insurance company said they were making too many horsepowers so after dropping the compression down they took the horsepower off the motor to the horsepower off the drivetrain so if your spec said it had 400 horse after taking a Dyno off the transmission so it only had 2 to 300 horse that's how they satisfied the insurance companies
That's certainly a very low key subtle car. Nobody is going to notice it. ha ha! ;-)
:-)
678 over a three year run.....super rare.

I have a 1971 Buick GS and on mine when I lower the hood I do it slowly and allow the hood to click into place instead of just dropping the hood. Not sure if it is the same for this vehicle but I am assuming that it would be the same.

Hi Gary, I believe you'd be right :-) Lou
What's so rare about those buicks that at the time there were not too many speed parts for those 455 engines they had a few but only buick insiders had those parts
Thank you for viewing & sharing your knowledge.
Nice! Enjoyed this car story!
Hi Joseph, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) Lou
Automatic transmission? I don't think they had that option unless it was special order.

They sure did, Turbo 400, they also came with 4 speeds too, M-22
The Automatic wasn't a Special Order.
These cars came standard with a 3 speed manual transmission. From what I researched only 3 or 4 were built with the 3 speed. The 4 speed manual and the automatic were optional.
5:45 yea 510 ft lb 'o torque will do that.
It felt even more powerful with the M-22 manual trans.
:-)
wish it was 4 speed! i had a 71!😅

Beautiful car, but not the Baddest Buick Muscle Car...You need to test drive the 1987 Buick Grand National Experimental
Sounds like a good idea :-)
great car my all time fav.
Happy to read this one is a winner for you :-)
I'm used to seeing mustangs and marti reports. On this car how would you find info like the build date, options, etc assuming you don't have stuff like the original invoice or window sticker?
Hi Jeffrey, I'd google "Buick Car Club" or "Buick Owners Car Show" and I'm hopeful you'll find helpful information and options, and then meet some Buick people and they can help. Hope that helps, Lou
For Buick 1970 history, there has never been a Stage2 or Stage3 engine option from the factory which for 1970 GS Stage1 and GSX. The 1970 Stage1 and GSX were only produced at the Flint, Michigan plant.
For the Stage1 option came with Chrome valve covers. Rochester carburetor recalibration for higher performance. The distributor was recalibrated for a quicker advance with initial Spark beginning at 10 degrees above top dead center. Cylinder block ID # SS stamped on driver side by the engine dip stick.
For A/C cars there was HD cooling with 7 blade fan with thermostatic clutch assembly.
Transmission: Automatic Turbo 400 transmission ID # code BB
Rear Axle: 3:64 for non A/C
3:42 for A/C
Most Stage1 cars came with the Rally Ride control suspension F-41 with Front & Rear Sway Bars.
The Stage2 and Stage3 engine options were over the counter- dealer installed options, not regular production. The original Cast iron Stage2 cylinder heads were not produced in time for the 1970 GSX model run. There were only 75 or so sets of Stage2 cylinder heads produced due to casting issues. Last, the 1969 Federal Clean Air act put a real damper on the Stage2 engine program.
The Original Motor Trend article Without A Taste of Geritol debuted the 1970 GS Stage1 running the quarter mile 13:38@105 mph. This is what had all American car manufacturers abuzz with "what a Buick"?
Much respect for a woman who owns a muscle car.
Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan can document the car, if it was built between September 1969-Mid-January 1970. & Wayne Roberts/GS Historical Society has the microfiche from Mid-January through the end of the 1970 model years.
My question is is if we have freedom of choice in this country why don't they have a couple of gas stations that sell regular gas for older cars does not make sense just a few stations think about it

Hi Gary, I do not have it on my calendar in May. If you know a Show Promoter interested in Sponsoring me, I'd be happy to see if I can make it. Looks like FUN! Lou
I can only hope that she only paid at auction, the amount of money that the car could "Prove to be", and didn't pay fully for what "It could be". (Also needs new W/W motor- I hate when the blades sit up on the windshield like that)

It’s not a Stage 1 but definitely a GSX.
Didn't the Stage 1 have chrome valve covers???

Such a nice comment Kostas G. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
NOTHING is hotter than a Buick GSX! Not even the sun!
Now Buick has become a shell of it's former self and sells china spec garbage SUV because society wants gas miles and grocery getters ONLY. A car like this is frowned on but the hell with that.
