@12:15 are you kidding me, that wasn't boring at all. I was learning so much and comparing my results to yours with your wealth of knowledge. Definitely subscribing
Dude that first part of your video when you were testing the engine compression was very interesting especially to a disabled auto mechanic like me. I wanted to see what you were going to do next with this motor then boom we were swimming with the fishes? I would have loved to see you remedy this compression loss with this engine. Thank you for the video.
My Toyota Tacoma has 291,000 miles, and has no blow by. Also i done the plugs back in January, and they all looked really good, no oil on them at all. I have the 5vz-fe engine in my truck.
brian = I thought the same... since humidity can go into the engine while sitting...due to hanging open hose can cause maybe corrosion inside.I drove the car like that with hanging crankcase hose for the whole summer since I did not realized it was off.Today I connected it back the way it suppose to be.
In my truck, I installed an oil catch can to prevent oil particles caused by blow by to go through the intake system and gum up everything. Its crazy the amount of oil that that thing collects!
I love these 5E-FE engines. Mine used a decent amount of oil though it had 300,000 kms and 100,000 of them had rev limiter at every shift. I never trust my honda D series motor as much..
hey Brian firing order 1342 i would start using transducers for compression checks and delta FLS type sensors for piston ring blow by by installing on dipstick waste spark firing on exhaust stroke is not for emissions it closes the loop of the ignition circuit i know i sound like a back seat driver you are a GREAT tech all the best to you bro
My Astra H has sprayed oil all over from the top of the dipstick tube (pushing the dipstick up), now I'm getting brown oil in the top of the coolant tank and my coolant's low even after just being refilled. Is this blow-by? Or is it even worse? Of course it's worse, but is the clean-oil-in-coolant due to over-pressure in the crank-case busting the oil-pump gasket? Or is my engine dumping coolant into the oil, blowing oil out as it boils?
did you check the PCV system before the compression test? I have some blow-by on my diesel Astra and mine pours oil through a lor of seals (dosen't burn oil or any funny noise, just did 300km with it on freeway without need to top up with oil). Heard of you don't replace the pcv filter every 100 000km, it clogs up and causes clow-by to build up (mine builds up only in the rocker cover, nothing comes through the dipstick) and force oil throught the seals.
LOL! You're not kidding- we had a lot fun though and the second tank he was back in the groove again. I was watching a buddy's training video on a sub and you could tell his "group" was pretty amped up. They kept trying to walk on the deck of the submersed submarine in their fins.
Brian I bought a used engine,I flipped it over to gain access to the crank. Had it like that for a few weeks with the old oil filter hooked up. When I went to start it,she had a massive amount of blow by. It's slowly going away, and it looks like steam , there's NO oil indication in my air cleaner. I pulled plugs and a few of them were oil soaked ,after changing them the oil disappeared. What the hell, is it blow by or not .
Question? How do I get rid of blow by? I thought I had a cracked head because oil is getting into my coolant, but my neighbor read my compression sheet, & said I have too strong of compression for it to be a cracked head or head gasket. He is a master mechanic, so I believe him. I was willing to pay him to fix the head or head gasket, & he doesn't turn down money, but he is pretty honest with me, for the most part. He came to the conclusion that it's blow by. Drives me crazy, cuz it smokes, & my new radiator changes from fresh looking coolant to brown oily looking coolant, after driving. Any suggestion on getting rid of blow by? I have a 1990 Ford F-150. Thanks in advance.
Hey Brian, thanks for this video and the explanations all along the way. I have an '07 Mazda 3 with about 150 000 Km on it and basically the same problem, black on the end of the exhaust all the time, oil consumption way too high ( 1/2 litre per 130 Km) . What would you recommend for a rebuild on this engine?
never heard of that before. Great vid. Brian, from another vid I saw here, when cilinder had bad comp I think that the outer ones are prone to have poor reading compared to the center ones. Is that right. If so, what is the reason ?. On my prev car always got oily spark plug in number one ... it was so gunk that the cilinder wont fire at all. Cheers
Got a 97 OBW. Steady stream of air coming out of the capless oil filler tube. A friend says the timing may be off. I believe that's true. Regardless, Justin Stob at AWD in Oregon blogged about an overheated block can crack a cylinder lining. Any way to test for a cracked lining vs. worn ring without taking head off? (Obviously my engine overheated due to HG failure as explained in a few of your videos).
Don't worry about it unless it's puffing fumes out of the valve cover with the PCV valve on hooked of course but you don't want you memes coming out of the valve cover or you've got some worn-out ring s
nice video here. where can I find your fancy relay? really convenient. I need to run a compression test on 2 vehicles but can not seem to find a helper to crank the vehicle. At first, I did it all by myself but then realised that the progression of the reading is also important for diagnostic purpose
Ovniusa15, At first, I too was a little confused with the term, "blow by". And adding, "suck, squeeze, bang, blow" to this, didn't help either. But, Brian, on a more serious note, why don't all of the cylinders have ignition coils? They appear to be COPs (coil over plugs).

blow by can actually push oil out all the seals like the valve cover front and rear seals.

Can blow by escape the engine when the cap is fully screwed down?
Vitality Massage if the PCV system is restricted or blocked it can force itself out through gaskets or oil pan seals.
also a bad valve guide will do it thru the carb or exhaust

How 2 coils can fire at the same time when 2and 3 and 1 and 4 are at the top one is in compression and the other is escaping

yes

+bluebarrios New rings??

New piston rings.
Another engine or rebuild
