My personal preference on my LG G2 is HDR Brightness & brightness set to 36. The dark areas are still dark but not nearly as crushed as they were before, while also not blowing out brightness during daytime areas, but YMMV.
@@Noaixs Yeah, seems that the standard settings are just a little "too low" and cause a bit of black crush/gamma. My personal preference is 36, but between 30-40 on 1000 nit displays seems to be the benchmark. Think the problem comes down to not having any HDR calibration screens (ie the screen that shows "change this brightness where both images are the same colour type) so users really don't know where the perfect brightness level for their display/setup, this is an easy QOL setting they could add.
I have been messing around with the PC version. I play with a custom resolution in the middle of my 42C2. This game requires you to be in exclusive fullscreen for HDR to activate and to change the settings. This means no custom resolution if I want HDR. I've been playing with HDR on in windows and with a gamma icc, but to my surprise the game is still giving me a 10,000 nit hdr container with dci p3 colors even though HDR is greyed out. So i used lilium tone mapping to tone map to 800 nits. Just think that it's strange, but I'm glad it's working.
Yes!! Thank you! I was waiting for this video while I was messing with the settings, I was not feeling very confident with my own results as I dont want to ruin the intended atmosphere. I have a CX, why should I leave HDR white point at 1000? It should be 800 if I am using HGIG.
@@waxphotography I am right you are not. I tested the game not you. If you would watch my video then you would know that the HDR W P has no impact on the max peak brightness in the game.
Why everyone talk about HGIG if it turns on it makes picture much darker in game mode and I think if I'm using vivid mode it's not even available for me.
In the gameplay, HDR is very good, but there are some problems, for example in the first cutscene or the main menu (sky and upper right corner), that the game has a very big problem with color banding. I have a good TV (LG OLED C3) and a good computer with a 4080s GPU. Can you tell me more about HDR errors on PC?
I've found these settings incorrect for PC. I'm using an lg c4 and have found setting the white point to 800 gives me the correct nits when looking at the sun as you would expect. Also knocking the contrast back down to 50 gives a much more natural picture than the 75 that it defaults to.
On PC I dont mess with the HDR settings. Instesd I go SDR, then use AutoHDR addon by majorpainthecactus in HDR10 with reshade, set to inverse tone mapping to correct color and this is used to convert SDR to HDR because native HDR is weird with settings at the moment. In the inverse settings, set to method a, gamma 2.2, adhust peak brightness to whatever your monitor or TV does and enjoy fixed HDR
